Traditional non-mechanized agriculture is also a hazardous occupation. Prevalence of work related injuries in this sector can be high. Typical injuries among farmers are cuts, puncture wounds and laceration. Hand tools are often responsible for these injuries. However hand tool injuries are often not fatal.

I believe it is important to pay attention to the situation of street vendors. Street vending is a major occupation in low-income countries. They work during the hottest hours of the day and they are especially exposed to health impacts of heat as well as pollution and noise. Policies and decisions should be made to protect this vulnerable group.

There are also many alternatives to the use of pestisides in agriculture including crop rotation, us of trap crops (leads pests away from other crops) and genetic enginering. Small-scale farmers in developing countries practice a number of traditional methods for controlling pest.
