  • A few years ago, I quit an interesting (somewhat unpredictable) job to take on a casual role at a company I thought had more long term potential (contract was only to last possible 3 months!). It was a move that was uncertain if it would work out, but it has been worth the risk, as I am still with the company and have been part of some interesting projects. ...

  • Hi Dominique - just some technical notes - if you put the camera on a solid surface like books or a table, the video won't be so shaky. You can also put the phone horizontal and eye level, so it is wide screen and you aren't looking down. You can also look at the camera on the phone so you are looking at the audience during your pitch. Easier said than done!

I think my success is being able to work in a career of film/video I studied nearly 18 years ago. I can't see too many highs and lows, but there has been a constant stream of meeting new people, interesting work environments, and tight timelines to keep me on my toes! Challenges include living in a few different cities, states, and countries! I think I was...

  • 'Going from failure to failure without losing enthusiam' made me laugh, but is quite true when you are trying new things, or are in a rut. I think being successful is staying healthy, smiling, and appreciating each day (while keeping food, shelter, and clothing at a reasonable level).

  • I liked listening to Elon Musk, I have heard of Telsa, but never actually listened to him speak. I think taking the time to really think about what it is that I offer will help me to develop my weaknesses and appreciate my strengths. I do plan on taking some short courses to keep up the momentum.

  • Moving countries really slowed my progress I think, and it took a few years to get back into work that I thought I was capable of. I now make more practical decisions and have slowed down with any big moves, as it is the knock-on effects that you don't see coming that cause the most problems!

  • I think a strength of any leader, scientist, doctor, or expert is...communicate to me, so I can understand, but it's also good to know they can turn it on when they have to, that they have the knowledge and skill to get the jobs done.

If the world could support a person like this from the start, what a different place it could be. I agree, he isn't...

  • I don't think I have a grand moment where I saved the day with great communication. I am pretty good at being myself, and try to keep things light at work. I do make say a few jokes at meetings when others are being serious - I am honest and say 'hey, you invited me!' I would think people know what they get when I am around.

  • I think I am stronger networking in person rather than creating a brand online. My LinkedIn needs work, as I have only updated it to my work in Australia - when I worked in another country for nearly 7 years before that! I know someone that actually researched people that were interviewing him and came to the interview with their information - so he flipped...

  • I do think the credentials make you pause, and look at where you are at. What are you actually doing when you are a tour guide, an accountant, or IT specialist. The resume may say this person can fix a PC, but the credentials add weight, and show the whole employee not just the skill. The credentials will show that this person can fix a PC, but has the...

  • I had an interesting past five years, where I was working on an Australian television drama as a video editor, when I started working for an educational institution. There was a position available training up staff and teachers how to use digital technology, shoot and edit videos, and create visual content. I became a teacher in a way, customizing my...

  • I think students will find the GLOs useful as on any given work day - one could use a mix of the skills all at once. I live and work in a different country from where grew up, so I had to develop my global citizenship skills on the fly, which took a few years, but I think my communication, digital literacy, and critical thinking skills helped me through and...

I am planning on getting a Certificate III in aviation (remote pilot's license-drone operator). This is nationally accredited in Australia and this will really lift my profile I believe as I will be adding a new skill set that compliments my work experience in video production and editing. I also just received my Certificate IV in training and assessment...

  • Digital literacy and creativity will be important to employers in the next few years according to the Economist article. So I think being able to use new technology in ways we haven't thought of will be in demand. Take drones or UAVs for example, the uses are numerous including being used for shark spotting on the coast of NSW in Australia - so manufacturers...

  • I think staying connected to others, to nature, and staying healthy will be more important as we spend more time working in front of screens, writing code, communicating online. Adapting skills to align with the technology of the future is a must (farmers using apps, iPads, data to investigate crops). I think building good habits of learning new skills on a...

  • Hi all, I have worked in video production and editing for nearly 17 years, yikes! I've enjoyed my career, but I am always as the same level. I love the craft, but maybe it's time to adapt to see what else I am capable of. If it's not broken, don't fix it, right? I hope to get some perspective from this course and learn form others.

  • Journalists have been threatened and called traitors in their own countries. 4,700 plus stories have been written from the start.

Do authorities need a warrant to get proof or the information to press charges against a firm or individuals? The person who leaked the information did in anonymously, so maybe the information is fair game...Since the...

  • She may find train or bus timetables challenging, or even the numbers of buses, like Bus number 196 or similar.

  • I like how he suggests to start simple, and get the ball rolling. I think that way of thinking puts less pressure to make it perfect the first time. The more we try, the better each new project will become, and eventually it should become intuitive.

  • Hello, my name is Dan. I work as a video editor, and I have been putting this off for too long. I am excited to learn some techniques that will help me create content that everyone will be able to understand.

  • I think we should care about digital accessibility, as the online world has allowed us more freedom to learn and connect with others, to exclude someone because of a lack of planning when creating content would be inconsiderate.
