I'm glad to hear there's really a spectrum of depression. My mom and sister never express negative feelings and cant understand why I can't just snap out of it.

Hi I'm Jean, Bachelor's in Humanities. Lifelong learner for anything and everything.

Hi Everyone I'm always excited about words and writing. Here for a recharge in learning.

  • One of the most challenging issues found in the majority of religions is the treatment of women.

  • I want to know more as she's such a strong female historical figure.

  • It's all sorts for me, depends on my mood. I love Haikus especially as I have a tendency to to overwordy!

  • I went to my bookcase and pulled out
No More Masks an anthology of 20th c.
American Women Poets, and a reading assignment paper fell out. It's from the previous owner of this book

  • I hear garden trimmers, car noise outside. I feel the cold air from the ceiling fan above. I just picked a little piece of something off my dog's face sitting next to me on the couch.

  • I think first born children maybe be more prone too.

  • I once received a promotion to assistant manager. In the past I had held that position but became overwhelmed and didn't enjoy it. role as assistant manager I kept getting the feeling I really wasn't an assistant manager because I didn't feel like one, I still felt like my old job sales was really who I was. And even though I did a really good job as an...

  • Really enjoyed this course. I had no idea about his collecting and how much he was ahead of his time and a preserver of history. Such a talented and passionate man for the humanities. One of a kind for sure.

  • I had no idea Sir Walter Scott was a collecto That's why I took this course to really find out about him. I think it's so neat because I feel the same way about objects and history and archaeology, architecture, and royalty. I love interesting stuff of objects and their meaning. I like how he intertwines it in his literature as well. He was ahead of his time.

  • As she hurried down the cobbled alley he followed her. Afraid of glancing back over her shoulder she picked up her pace. Fortunately an older woman popped out of the darkness, asking Alice if she was okay. Now looking down the lane she noticed the man was gone. Letting out a sigh of relief she felt in her coat for her woven purse so she could offer the older...

  • Loud, moving, dramatic, worldly colorful, beautiful!

  • It depends upon the situation. I try to discern whether logic or emotion is called for case by case, and sometimes it's a combination. I try to balance both.

  • I love music. I have different playlists for different emotions. My going to work music or coming home music can vary: salsa, rap, classical, reggae, rock, jazz, it just depends on my vibe for the morning or night. Sometimes no music at all. Lol

  • Hello All! I'm from FLA.
This course sounds great!. Recently my mgr. at work said "I wear my heart on my sleeve!" I took it as an insult until I read more and now see this course. Can't wait!

  • Yes me too. I want to utilize and understand more about emotional intelligence.

  • Hi Everyone I also can't play the video. I'm Mags and I am an armchair detective.

  • This is gonna be good!

  • I'm disappointed with the architectural style of new homes and apartment buildings. Very cookie cutter or bland, industrial type structures.

  • Jeanne Clark made a comment

Light also adds spirituality to spaces whether its highlighting structure, structural components or also creating voids or shadows.

  • Hello everyone I am Margaret and have always loved buildings, landscapes, architecture. I'm excited to see whats in store in this course.

  • Yes I can't wait to dig in. I'm easily inspired and hope this course spurs me on.

  • Agist really. She is young so it appears rebellious, attractive, sexy. Males of all ages are attracted to so called "dirty girls!" Yet Madonna recently in the media was called past it, desperate, pathetic. We know the term dirty old man and it's always been acceptable even considered playful. The same term and acceptance for a "dirty old woman" doesnt exist....

  • Some drag could be considered offensive and sexist. After all they're predominantly men playing women. Females performing drag as men are more rare and not even seen on TV. Men dominate this industry also.

  • I do find most celebrity feminists as trendy and elitist. Their struggles are not relatable to mist non famous working women, stay at home moms, senior women, single women. As Wendy Williams would term it it's merely "a hot topic" used by celebrities interested in maintaining their fan base as well as appearing politically correct. Also no one dares raising...

  • Shameful and cringeworthy. Don't forget Brittney Spears too how she was treated.

  • Love these musical links to the Austen era. I'm putting together a playlist.

  • Maybe the size of the table helped her stay focused.

  • I just wrote that quote down appropriate as my mom, daughter and my son's girlfriend are going to the theatre tonight!

  • My friends and I from Newcastle stayed in Bath for an OU course and loved it!

  • Thoroughly enjoyed this course especially learning to quiet my inner critic and be kinder to myself.

  • Resilience is about maintaining mind and body while being aware of yourself and your surroundings.

I started walking everyday and I want to incorporate meditation into it. Also setting aside time before work or at lunch to meditate.

  • It makes me think I need to start going back to church and maybe get involved with a group. Or volunteer.

  • Yes I like that: wait, breathe and respond. Too many times I'll follow gut instinct then realize later maybe I was too hasty.

  • Used in sports terms it usually means an athlete or team is unstoppable. Or they have overcone despite setbacks. In music Michael Jackson did an album Invincible. It got poor reviews and sadly we know he wasn't. It can be used positively or negatively.

  • I might say invincible is too strong a word as it adds maybe pressure on people to not admit sometimes we may be broken for abit but come through it. It's the same end result.

  • Nope.

  • Sometimes I can't help feeling the comments section is looking like Facebook postings. I like seeing differences of opinion but here I'm noticing it's mostly everyone in agreement, all positive, very little disagreement.

  • I don't think we really have a right to judge what's acceptable and there are already laws in place for criminal lifestyles. We must be careful to not infringe on other cultures or countries what we believe to be acceptable or not.

  • For some the pursuit of happiness is continual. For others not a priority and for some goal achieved.

  • It seems for some it doesn't matter. The people who treat other people poorly, gripe and complain, involve people in their chaos and drama, commit crimes, hurt people. They could care less either way.

  • Why does one need to make their life meaningful then? Why not just exist. It's up to the individual to live life as they choose. There should be no sense of duty or responsibility.

  • The introduction of happiness here is a little strange.

  • Well said. Lol It is getting rather lofty and noble on here about death.

  • Jeanne Clark made a comment

Sad but true life is for the living. Death is the one equalizer rich or poor, famous or average. As time passes the dead are mostly forgotten.

  • Death and taxes

  • Agree and soulless.

  • I just don't think this one size fits all approach applies.

  • Jeanne Clark made a comment

This video failed to move me as it did for the majority of people here.

  • I agree it was like it was meant for children on an American PBS show.

  • Wonder what Stephen Hawking experienced in his final moments. If he would have had confirmation of a God or afterlife and been able to share it.

  • I would also like to explore the underside of living a life without responsibility. The responsibility word I'm hung up on. Do other animals live responsibily. If you have only one life and you want to live recklessly and selfishly should you have that right.

  • Jeanne Clark made a comment

Yes I do. There's no solid evidence to prove an afterlife. For people who do believe it's because of faith. Think of all the people you know who have passed they've never been in touch .

  • Yes I'm kinda missing soulful life. Although still enjoying another vuewpoint.

  • Hello All Im Maggie from Orlando, Florida. I love learning about history and culture of different places especially in cities.

  • Jeanne Clark made a comment

Gain a better understanding of a non-religious life approach.

  • Love the differences in architecture and housing.

  • @Sitara* yes I'll be replaying this for a little bit to better grasp.

  • @RonDuke yes I agree

  • How cool. What's your house like and the surrounding town, village?

  • You sound like a neat couple. I too want to study the mythology.

  • Dia duit Maggie is ainm dom. My mom's grandparents on her dad's side are Irish from N. Ireland. My dad's grandparents are from Galway and possibly Mayo or Cork. I have researched into my ancestry for the last 20 years. I've married in England, honeymooned in Scotland and visited Wales as an exchange student at 19yrs. Visiting Ireland is definitely on my travel...

  • @JANESARKAR No they were a couple.

  • Yes that's the gesture and he smiled it was very sweet.

  • Just the other day at work I shook the woman's hand but he declined and patted his chest. He didn't want me to be offended and I wasn't as I understood it's because of his religion.

  • If we confuse definitions of culture it could lead to alienation, elitism. Though some groups for instance cults, gangs, bikers may have a closed off collective mindset.

  • Sometimes I feel as if I don't belong to a particular culture. I've enjoyed fluidly moving across or being part of different cultures since adulthood yet in high school I was not a part of any particular subculture: athletes, band people, nerds, drug users, cheerleaders, etc.

  • shared likes, large groups, fluid

  • Unfortunately relatively easy has not been my experience. I find it an enjoyable hobby though and always a work in progress.

  • I was able to go back to my great, great grandfather born in 1848 from Ireland who came to America around 1870. Although I know the name of my greatx3 grandfather can't find out anything more.

  • Yes me too. Also the connection between mind, music, movement and wellness. Music and movement therapy. Also why do some people sing along to music while others don't feel the urge. It's funny I have three grown children and like their father none of them dance.

  • I couldn't really do it either because I was consciously restricting movement so my mind wandered too. I was almost in a hurry to get still listening over with so I could move.

  • Yes when you see someone at a rock concert just standing usually something will be moving, even if it's to hold a lighter.

  • Yes funny how that tradition still holds mostly. I went to my first symphony at 19 in a dressy evening cocktail dress with antique beaded clutch and heels and was struck by the seriousness, restriction, tradition, etiquette. I found it hard to contain my movements in my chair.

  • Hello fellow music lovers I am Maggie from Central Florida and I have always loved all kinds of music since I was a little kid. I started off with showtunes, standards, my mom's 50s rock and roll singles. I had a portable phonograph and also listened to albums on my Gram's hifi. I bought 45s and albums through the 70s. In high school I'd escape into music,...

  • Yes a counselor would be good to seek out too.

  • Jeanne Clark made a comment

I would feel disappointed thinking I hope other people don't feel this way. Also scared a little that maybe other people will join in. I would try to avoid her.

  • Yes I agree to talk to people at work about it.

  • Hello All, I'm Maggie from Central Florida. I'm an apartment leasing manager for the largest property management company in the US. I love finding people their new digs! I too am eternal student and love interaction with people especially interested in other cultures, history, lifestyles and yes food too. Hope to enrich myself with this course.

  • Jeanne Clark made a comment

When talking with friends or coworkers sometimes we'll point out how one person's selfies are always at a bar. I have a cousin who posts only Alaskan landscape "selfies without hisself" Or how someone's lack of selfies or updated posts and pictures are strange as why have a Facebook page.

  • I have a love hate with FB. I like the messanger tool best to keep in touch. Whenever I post selfies I may get negative comments from my sister or mother while my friends comments or likes are more positive. I will remove and add pictures alot. If a picture or post doesn't get any likes I'll delete it.

  • It's a good thing because social media influences many different areas of different cultures and societies. Social media which becomes incorporated into crime I am particularly interested in those studies. Catfishing, fraud, prostitution, etc.

  • Hello I'm Maggie and happy I enrolled. This should be good for my work interacting daily with people and also for leisure and self-improvement.

  • Yes thanks enjoyed that.

  • Jeanne Clark made a comment

Yes love discovering history behind other religions and movements.

  • Eat drink and be merry!

  • I am interested in different cultures and have never studied a course dealing with propaganda before.

  • I especially enjoy reading poems, literature or looking at art when I knew the biographical background of the writer or artist. The historical setting or political atmosphere surrounding the work usually intrigues me.

  • Especially the bread and butter at the end.

  • I like the idea of social reading and the discussions it provides. A downside for me though is frequently you'll find people who feel the need to correct other posters English or challenge their views as if only they have the perfect syntax and writing skills or their opinion is the only one. Whereas if you were in a physical verbal exchange people are less...

  • Yes I do tend to hurry myself when reading online wanting to get to the end or cut to the chase when reading articles. Also visually how a page is set up affects how much or how little I will read.

  • I love FutureLearn and took this course to learn more about web reading. I read news online, DM and Flipboard. Also use internet for companion piece when watching tvshows or films. Or watch music videos on Youtube and then Google bios IMDB etc.

  • My first heartbreak at 17 was every one of those. The next heartbreak at 19 not as intense.
