Chiara Pastormerlo

Hi all.
My name is Chiara and I teach music and English language to The Early Years classes. I always like learning new things, sharing new ideas with colleagues and improving my language skills

Location I vive and work in Milan ,Italy

Activity

  • The same happens to me

  • Personally te three C are the main elements of a long life learning path. But going through the difficulties of the daily life is tought and I need to keep my brain awake and my spirit alive

  • I took up violin class where I was five years old. Music has always been with me throughout my life. It kept me good company and make me feeel happy

  • I knew all the opera productions except for Anne Nicole that I ‘ve never seen.
My favorite was Gianni Schiccchi by Puccini because I like the way the melody is able to address the feelings of the characters.

  • I teach music in general classes in te middle school and I am very interested in the topic of opera. When I saw this course I was really delighted and Indo hope to learn new things about opera and become more expert in this subject.

  • I’ve been teaching general music in the middle school
for many years. To be honest I like my job even sometimes it’s tougher than I thought. I’m thinking about retiring from it soon because I would like to be more dedicated to my family.Iwould like alsohave more flexibly in y daily schedule.I live in the city where I was born ad I could say that things are...

  • I need to improve my speaking and writing because currently I'm working in a bilingual English Italian school.

  • Brilliant. Maybe it takes time for preparing these sorts of activities but I think it's worth it.

  • The concept of assessment was really interesting.
What impressed me was the relevant role of the teacher about it.
Teachers are directly involve in the children' s development of their learning.
    That's great!
    Thanks.

  • My grandparents.
I loved to spend ten with them specially with my grandad.
He alway could make me feel special to him.
He encouraged me to be creative in everything I would have decided to do in my life.
He was really important for me.

  • I have good memories about my kindergartener.....I can't remember lots about activities but I am quite sure that I felt fine and safe there.
I was very happy to go to my pre- school

  • Mapping is always a useful activity for everyone and most of all for dyslexic students.
It helps a lot them to put in order words, thoughts/concepts. ..and improve their' capacity of memorizing them.

  • Hi Francesca.
I worked a lot with dyslexic students and two of my children are dyslexics but I think a lot should be still done for understanding better this issue.
Sharing ideas and experiences is very useful for me!

  • Labels could be useful when people has to figure out how to cope with difficulties in doing something.
Students frequently acquire benefits and improve their learning if they are evaluated because teachers can acknowledge better the way how they learn.
In the other hand nobody can be discriminated for that.

  • Communication is very tough job.....

  • Very nice videos.
I noticed the two girls never interrupted each other.
They looked like to be very respectful and always waited their turn before speaking.
They used intonation for comunicate in a meaningful way. Eyes contact and gestures have been a fundamental part of their talk.

  • I have worked with many autistic children and eac one is different.I noticed that very frequently they have attention for details, they don't like changes in the environment of the classroom, they need routines to make them feel more confident and relax.

  • I'm very grateful about the big quantity of articles, books and materials the course provides to me.
    Thanks!!!
I really need them and make me more confidente when I have to prepare lesson plans.

  • In my personal experience autistic students can easily memorize details, list of words and sequences of numbers. They like routines.
Noises , loud music or high voices' pitch can be very annoying for them and sometimes they can have a destruptive behavior with peers.

  • The metaphor of the hurdles was really clear to me and it works very well.
The subject of dyslexia is complicated but the course provided good information about it.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Hi,I'm Chiara from Italy.
I've been teaching music for many years . For personal reasons ten years ago I started being very interested in dislexia iussue and currently I tutor children that have difficulties in learning English as an additional language. I hope that this course will teach me new strategies

  • I totally disagree with the statement.
Learning English as an additional language could be a very challenging process for a child. Teaching English must be meaningful for students not just teach vocabulary...

  • I really appreciated all the comments.
They made me more aware about the responsabiliy of my behavior as teacher and educator.

  • I think that it makes difference when the teachers underlines and emphasizes the rule and not the student.
Students can riflect on the rules in a positive environment.

  • I also use this method and I praise obedient students with stickers with stars or little hearts.I always try to be positive when I ask them to follow a new rule and explain very clearly how that rule can effect the whole classroom.

  • I started teaching general music to 13 years students when I took the degree at the Conservatory and I remember that at the beginning students did'nt pay attention to my lessons and I was so scared and depressed about it. They weren' t interested in learning historical facts about musicians of the past ages and they didn't want to listen to classical music at...

  • Learning is a process that involves the whole person as intelligence capacity and emotionally
Feeling scared or insecure affects the child's abilities in a negative way.

  • It was really useful to reflect on the value of playing as a matter about development and learning. Thanks!

  • I'm not surprised about the statement because people sometimes consider the act of playing at school like doing nothing useful .
I think as teacher and as parent that too much fun means active children involved in real learning.

  • I always played with my older sister. She liked to teach me alphabet letters and numbers. I also remember that I played with my friends hide and seek inside the house or riding bikes during the summer.
We didn't watch television and I think that playing together was a natural way for us to develop social and emotional skills.

  • My personal educational experiences in the primary and secondary school were both good and I had a successful curricula as far as I took my music degree at the Conservatorio. I became more aware in difficulties about learning issues when I started teaching and I realized that some students needed a particular methodology to go forward at the same level of...

  • In theory Italy provided special needs students a system of laws to guarantee them a good level of education but in reality teachers aren't well supported in their job. They don't receive the preparation to face the challenges that an inclusive education system requires.
Sometimes the schools environments are poor and don't allow children to partecipate in...

  • Hi all.
I teach music and English to special needs students in a primary school in Milan Italy.
I have two dislexic children. They are adults now .They are 24 and 22 years old and they troubled a lot to develop their language skills when they were very young.

  • Speaking well is when you can address your ideas and thought in a clear way with a wide range of vocabulary and well organized phrases.

  • Challenge 4 Students answer in their mother tongue.
Reason may be they are not confident in talking in English
Solution : use simple words and phrases and encourage them not being afraid about grammar mistakes

  • Reason 4: to help teacher to design and plan tasks...
All the reasons are equally important but in my opinion it's relevant to focus on activities that can really help learners to achieve the outcomes.

  • I teach general music and I lead a choir so most of the time I have to talk about voice, high and low pitch, rhythm and melody.

  • Afl helps me which students can do the work and which can't.
Afl provides me with feedback from the students so that I can plan differentiation better
Afl allows me to understand better what students need to learn in order to be able to adapt classroom activities and go forward.
As teacher, I would say that Alf is the correct approach to put ideas into...

  • Thanks a lot for your pieces of advises.
I would add that for me it's relevant to encourage kids to acquire chants, nursery rhymes and easy songs for being familiar with the sounds of the language and have fun together.

  • I think that hinge point question would be a good method to improve critical thinking skills in my students and to help me to elicit the right information from them.
I totally agree with this kind of techinique.

  • Hi everyone. The first week was really useful for me.
I also liked sharing my ideas with colleagues so....I'm looking forward to learn something interesting from this course.

  • I teach music in a primary school and I teach also violin to young students in a after school musical activities.I always try to encorauge my students to become more confident about themselve and their skills and to show me their creativity
I like to create a good learning environment where everyone can ask for help.
I'd would like to improve my teaching...

  • I'm a strong belivier in Vigotsky's theories. He was able to focus teachers' attention on the fact the students need to be involved in their learning with clear scaffolding teaching strategies and authentic goals to achieve getting through peers' interaction and the right learning environment. As teacher, I have a big responsabily to implement my students'...

  • Hello everyone. My name is Chiara, I'm a primary school teacher and I teach music and English through music.I hope to learn new strategies for my teaching and to share ideas with both of all.
    Have a good time together!!

  • Disabilities children are in the class with "normal" students in Italy and teachers are supported by specialist teachers that can look after them and allow them to learn in the right way

  • I always try to choose a variety of activities in order to have something new : I think that it's really important for everyone to get involved with interesting activities.

  • I have been teaching music and English trough music for a long time
and now I would like to learn how being every day a passionate teacher after so many years.

  • I totally agree that motivation is the most important element in teaching and learning.I do hope to learn effective methods to implement movitivation in my lessons and share news ideas with other teachers.

  • Hi everyone.my name is Chiara and I teach English in preschool classes. I 'm a musician and I play violin and guitar so I'd like to teach English language through songs and chants.

I think that the ability to listen to musical sounds allow children to improve their language skills

  • Radio head: slow movements following Netherlands singer's voice.I started with all my body to sway then I went stretching .
Always on the Run: more interesting.I could perceive the guitarist 's movements

  • Only listening without watching was interesting but a bit boring.
The musi sounded quite obsessive sometimes.

  • This week provided lots of interesting concepts and it was really challenging for me .
I appreciated the possibility to explore sound in a technical way but I need more time to master the terminology about it.
Many thanks to other participants because I could sometimes understand better a concept reading their comments about it.

  • The course sounds very interesting
    Thanks.

  • I played this Synphony some months ago and it seemed very strange to me clapping .
It's rather better to keep still and moving my fingers s I'm playing my violin.

  • I'm a violinist and I teach Violin and music in general classes at school.
I'm really interested in this course.

  • Start with copying and memorize some useful grammar structures and then practice reading a lot

  • Practice a lot in order to make reading in English familiar and meaningful.

  • Copying and writing manuscripts was extremely challenging but it was so useful for us.
How we could know about the music of the past without them?

  • I started playing piano and violin at five so music was my first reading activity.Actually I teach violin and music in general classes and writing and reading music is very easy for me.
I'm very interested to know more about the history of written music.

  • I teach very young students from five to eight years old.
They don't like to sit for a long time so we move very often in the larger class of the sschool where there is lot of materials such as puppets, posters, english books and easy musical instruments and where we can have space for singing and dancing together.
    Teaching English through songs and...

  • Teacher should understand the needs of their students and not only teaching language with the course book.Language is a very particukar subject because it involves the whole personality of the student such intelligence, curiosity and motivation

  • Thanks for the clear notes. Very useful!
I think should be the class is a real learning enviroment for everyone because hoe the class works together can affect the learning process of everyone

  • I think that everyone can acquire many languages but it depends on lots of varaibilities such as where the place where you grow, which opportunities you can have from your environment, which motivation you have about learning another language.

  • I was really impressed by the beaty of Andersen's drawings....I didn't know anything about that!

  • Write short paragraphs and don 't get lost with too much long sentences.

  • Think very carefully what is the real core of the topic and try not to write about anything else.
Make an efficient planning text before writing

  • Thanks for the explanation.veryvuseful indeed .
Writing in an informal way is always more difficult than formal .when I have to write to a friend or to a college I'm always afraid because I don't have the right feeling of the language and I'm not really confident when I choose the expressions .

  • Practice listening podcasts or watching movies
    Listen something different every day

  • My mother tongue is Italian but I was taught English when I was very young and now I speak English almost a every day because I am asked to teach music in this language very frequently. Some years ago I taught music in a French school so I learned a bit of French from my students because I needed to interact with them but actually I forgot this language.I...

  • I cannot remember precisely when I read Andersen's fairy tales but I''vebeen always fascineted by them.I like their characters most of all I love "The little Match Girl" and "The Ugly Duckling".

  • I like reading English and American newspapers such as The Gardian and The New York Time and I found always interesting articles in them.Sometimes I don't know all the words but I are not used to check up every single word because ,even if,
I need to improve my vocabulary I can understand the whole meaning of the contest.

  • I feel more confident in writing than in speaking but I need to improve my vocabulary and I think I need to practice a lot.

  • The first girl spoke fluently even sometimes she made some mistakes in pronunciation.
The second candidate looked less confident in speaking

  • A Family celebration:do you think that a family celebration is still meaningful nowadays ?how has changed the way to live a family celebration like a Birthday or an Anniversary nowadays?
A shopping trip:do you think people are still used to go shopping in malls or outlets ?
What about shopping online?Have you ever bought something online?
    A meal in the...

  • Well, first of all,I think that a friend should be a person who always tries to speak honestly with you but doesn't judge you ,someone who can understand you better than others.I believe that "finding a real friend" is a like a treasure hunt because people can act like friend even only because they want to take advantage about your situation specially if you...

  • Reading has been one of my favourite hobby since I was a child but actually I don't have lot of time for it so I prefer watching good movies.

  • I teach music and I've been teaching this for many many years.I like my job but I'd would like to teach to adults instead of very young students.
I still live in Milan - Italy where I grew up : it's bad big city ,very international and it can offer you los of interesting opportunities about concerts and art exhibition and for meeting foreigners people and...

  • Thanks for the tips specially about "speak more the examiner". I 'be always done this when I was young and I studied .

  • I don't feel vero confident,I have to think to grammar and pronunciation before speaking so I speak very slowly......

  • I need to improve a lot my English skills ,specially the speaking part I mean,so I think it would be better to take my IELT in 2016

  • My main goal is improving my English.
I teach music in English and I took a CLIL degree some years ago but I really need to be more confident in using the English language.
I work in a school where I have many foreign students and I use English language most of the time to talk with them

  • I live in Milan,Italy.I like my city because it' s plenty of opportunities ...lots of museums,theaters,concerts....
The weather is almost nice but the past summer the heat was unbelievable.
The food is quite good too.

  • I ,d like to examine the form of the song "I just can't give up now"
It's an american gospel and I like it.
Verse 1,Chorus, Verse 2,Chorus, a Bridge and then Chorus again.

  • As teacher,I think that children need to meet dedicated adults that can encorauge and inspire them during their learning. I have wonderful memories about some of my teacher.....
Techology can certainly speed up their Learning but they need to raise the motivation to do it.

  • "Don't you worry about a thing" ?????
    I'm not sure .....

  • She's MY town,I'm NOT leaving,the FOOTsteps I've BEEN weaving/
where WE grew our Hair, learned to Laugh and swim/
where WE fell in LOVE, then fell out AGAIN

  • Great interview. He is very competent and his suggestions are plenty of significance and well communicated.

  • I truly agree that playing with video games can improve visual skills and hand eye coordination but I
am also a bit worried that children could also assume negative behaviors .Video games must be used with moderation and parents have to check how much time their kids are dedicated at this activity.

  • Nothing wrong in texting if we consider it such a kind of slang of spoken Language.
The risk is about young people because they are still learning the Language structures and they may be confused

  • I totally agree con Helen.
She made me wondering about caregivers and parents' responsability

  • The effects of social media on children's life could be good or bad .
It depends avlot on how parents are aware about the risks and how they look after kids.

  • I think that children need to experience the real word first of all playing with their parents, doing games with other kids, sports and manual activities in order to develop their capacity to have good relationships with their peers, to manage their emotions and so go on.
Nowdays kids become familiar with digital technology when they aren't prepared yet to...

  • The meaning isn't so clear but it sound nostalgic and melancholic.
The words evoke memories about time and how it has changes things and people.

  • Hi Everyone.
I'm Chiara,I teach general music in a primary school of Milan,Italy, and I would like to learn more about the process to write songs.
I'm very fond of classic music such as Bach and Mozart but I love jazz too and I like famous songwriters as Mc Cartney ,Lennon and Taylor .

  • As a teacher,I think that children could have a positive insight on learning throughout technology.
As it has been said ,parents have to be careful about the early use of technology devises and provide kids with traditional activities too, such as sport and good friendship with peers.

  • I learned that there are many strategies to cope with dyslexia problem.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn better how to approch dyslexics students and I liked watching videos where some of them were talking about their problems at school and how they could get through and become successfull.

  • It was great to have the opportunity to share my lesson plan with other Teachers .Receiveing a feedback from my colleagues was really useful for me.Thanks ! Many many ideas for my work too!!

  • I think it depends up on the learner. you have to be motivated and very organized when you decide to enroll an online course.

  • It was very interesting to know more about "task method".
i'd like to make up my lesson plans more about it
