  • Hi Harry, thanks for raising this issue. I have taken a look at the questions and the answers are indeed fairly similar. We feel though that getting the definitions exactly right is important in analysing religion and conflict. I hope the feedback with each question was helpful for you understanding. Good luck and thanks again for asking!

  • Hi Martin, there is still time to write your briefing paper. Some of your fellow students are also still working on it.

    Best,
    Robbert

  • Fixed it!

  • Thanks Ludwig! I may have forgotten about this issue, sorry Hanny. I updated the link with the one Hanny provided. Thanks again.

  • Hi Hung, does it work now?

  • Hi Ab,

You are in fact perfectly describing the educational and research programs of our faculty. We are deeply embedded in the humanities in studying religion. Again, please have a look at our site.

In week 1, to avoid 'colouring' or framing of any kind, we discussed all relevant catogories in light of current debates. 'Religion', 'conflict',...

  • Great to hear!

'Overenthusiastic remonstrance'. Like. We should have that as a category under the 'report' button.

  • Welcome Marwa! I hope you like the course!
    Good luck learning!

  • Welcome Carlos! I hope you like the course!
    Good luck learning!

  • Hi Luis, interesting question. Aren't those two examples of different people, different circumstances and different meanings, regarding Islam?

  • I'am sorry about that! We do value your work, of course. We will review this properly after the course ends. So, thanks for the feedback!

  • Hi Jean, great to hear that this course has given you much insight!

Reacting to the discussion above: language is a tricky thing, for 'theology' can refer to different studies and subject. Inferring a research program based on a name, is not all that scientific, in any case. For actual information on the research and educational programs on religion and...

  • I think they took down the video from their server. I'll try and see if I can get a fix.

  • Nothing more to add to that Robbert, thanks!

  • I'm sorry you feel manipulated. I was only curious about the progress of your learning.
And I was not referring to the problems you have with the moderation team. I think your critical perspective on religion is more interesting.

  • Hi Ab! Good to see you scrutinising this perspective again!

Did you manage to do the blog post and briefing paper yet?

    Good luck anyway!

  • Hi Brian, I understand your concerns. But projecting your experience with the 'Israel Lobby' on our online course is not informative. I assure you, the case of Israel has not been discussed in these terms. You'll just have to take my word for it.

I look forward to your further contributions on this case and who knows, maybe you'll see this conflict being...

  • Hi Gary, this week is indeed specifically about the role religion may play in peacebuilding. And indeed, we do not try to 'condemn' religion or ideologies otherwise, but try to investigate its role in conflicts by scrutinising perspsectives on contexts.

  • Hi Marwa, I understand this might be a problem. Thank you for trying hard though! I hope you feel confident enough to give the briefing paper a try. And trust that your fellow student will not focus on language, when reviewing you paper.

    Good luck!

  • We might need some peacebuilding over here.
The choices for case studies also depend on the expertise of the teachers. For the next run of this course, the teachers might have time to analyse another conflict and present a case study about it. So stay tuned!

  • Hi Len, well we did have the previous five weeks about the role of religion in conflict, to somewhat balance this week on peacebuilding.

  • Certainly not. But there are a lot of conflicts out there which are highly interesting. But we could only cover a few of them. This is party why we have given you the freedom this week to analyse and discuss a situation that has your interest.

  • I am sorry you struck out. We will definitly take a look at how to honour all the great papers we received.

  • Welcome Susan and good luck on this course!

  • Great to hear that you have learned much from doing the assignment!

  • That is alright Angel-Luis. I hope you enjoyed the rest of it!

  • Yes, it is very comprehensive. Your assignment should be much smaller, though.

  • We are receiving a lot of great in interesting briefing papers. Keep up the good work!

To all the learners in doubt of accomplishing the task: remember it does not have to be perfect nor comprehensive. Your fellow learners will peer review it and give you advice for improvement. And trust in the skills and knowledge you gained throughout the weeks....

  • Hi Jan, we're sorry you feel the assignment does not contribute to your learning. Production and peer review is actually a great learning technique employed in the master I am following currently at this faculty. We designed it so you could learn specifically about the relation between religion and conflict of a case of your own chosing. Thereby not changing...

  • Good suggestion Anne, thanks!

  • Week 3 is indeed a though one. Keep up the good work!

  • We're working on it. For now, I have added the subs.

  • We're working on it. For now, I have added the subs.

  • They still call it moderating. And they're in the UK. So it's actually from across the sea.

  • Hi Stephanie, no worries! The course will still be available after the official end date. So take al the time you need.

  • Well, that is not for you or me to decide. The moderation team of FutreLearn assesses this according to the Code of Conduct you agreed to. Please forward your further complaints regarding moderation issues using the 'Feedback' button on the left.

  • You can purchase a certificate at long as the course is online. This will be for some time after the course has ended.

  • I think it was removed on the basis of your language. Not on the content of any of the above three statements.

Moderating offensive language is, in my humble opinion, not censorship.

  • Good example Jan. Do you happen to know what the current state of debate is?

  • They are! After you submit you own assignment, you can review as many paper from other learners as you like.

  • I indeed think Ab makes interesting contributions to discussions. So I was only referring to language.

  • For now I have added the subtitle file as transcript. It should help you out, until a proper transcript is ready.

  • That's unfortunate. Did you manage to fix it?
