  • From Brazil.

  • I have always participated in choirs since I was a child because of my mom. She used to participate too. When I was 10 I started helping the child's choral conductor and since then I have always worked with music. I just love it. I love the rhythm but what touches me more are the lyrics.

  • Hi, I am Janaina and I am from Brazil. I love singing and do it since I was 8 years old. I play the saxophone and the clarinet. I have written some songs but I want to improve my writing skills. I am really happy to be joining this course with you guys. Hope we all enjoy and learn a lot.

  • Thank you very much, it was really helpful!

  • I loved this idea.

  • Thanks Jane!

  • Thanks Maria!

  • I have always had difficulties to learn at school. I learn better on my own because the teachers never helped me. For them I was a dumb student. But I am learning to deal with myself. It's still very difficult when I have to read because I can't concentrate. Doing two things at once helps me. For example, if I listen to songs or am on a loud place I can focus...

  • I was teaching English to students ages 8 and 9. And one was very intelligent but because his family was pushing him to much to always the best one, he couldn't cope with the activities and thought he was the worst student in class. He even said it in class once. To help him I changed all the way I was conducting the subject. Before introducing something new,...

  • Hi, I am Janaina and I used to teach English before my son was born. I intend to go back to work as he is now 18 months old, and I am always looking for a better way to make my students learn.

  • I tried it today and it was working normally. Thank you! I finished the survey.

  • Unfortunately, there isn't these type of training or evacuation plan in my country.

  • 1- I would find another way to return home like renting a car, going by bus or check with a friend or family member that lives nearby to stay there for these three days or if I had extra money I would stay at hotel.
2- I would call for help and wait in the car. If I couldn't get help, I would walk (if it were not far) to a safe and warm place like a...

  • There was a problem in the system and I couldn't finish the survey. I tried a few times but nothing changed.

  • I am from Brazil and I live in a big but peaceful city. The only natural disaster that happens here are normal flood and also when it rains on top of the mountains we have to get out of the river as soon as possible because a lot of people have died for not having time to be out and safe from the amount of water that comes like a wave.

  • I joined this course because I think that everybody should be prepared. We never know when these situations might happen. So I want to know what to do, for me, my family and others.

  • Thank you!

  • I have always had a problem with food and in my opinion, it needs much more study. I believe it's more emotional because most people that have this problem eat to feel happier or better after some moments of stress, eat more then necessary after a long period of fasting, eat a lot after some hours of dieting etc. It can also be because of a family habits.

  • I am Janaina and I am from Brazil. I always had a problem with food. I am trying to learn to eat better. I also don't like to take medicine, I try to find the solution for the health issues in what I eat and drink.

  • I sometimes use short videos in class because the book we use has it. But if I want to use a different one I find hard to find it.

  • My name is Janaina and I am from Brazil. I teach English to kids, teens and adults. I like using different materials in class such as songs, parts of movies, games etc. I am taking this course to improve my teaching skills.

  • I believe I am going to be more confident in these situations. Even though I have three kids, I have never had any of these experiences. But in case they happen, now I will know what to do.

  • I have no clue.

  • Everything in this video is important.

  • I really enjoyed week one.

  • I am Janaina. I am taking this course because I have three kids and I also want to become a volunteer in my city.

  • I am working as an English language teacher, so I went back to college to get a diploma and I also continue on taking free online courses online to improve my knowledge of the language and my teaching skills as well.

  • I believe these questions are asked to know the previous knowledge of the English language the people who will take the course have.

  • In my opinion, watching some classes and doing some voluntary teaching is essential to get to know if you really want to become a teacher, because even if your English is excellent you have to like being a teacher.

  • I am an English language teacher and I always try to show confidence and make my classes enjoyable giving my students easy examples showing pictures, videos and also playing games related to the lesson to make it easier to understand vocabulary pronunciation and grammar.

  • In my opinion teachers need to be confident, organized and funny. I've been trying to be like this and I noticed that students learn better if the class is enjoyable.

  • The cordinator of the school where I work who is also a teacher and the teacher who trained us. They are both amazing teachers.

  • How to teach grammar more easily.

  • I would like to learn more about teaching language and developing communication.

  • They are talking about how rewarding it is for them to teach and see their students improvements.

  • I really liked the ideas they presented. Students enjoy doing different things. It can be done in class or assigned as homework. Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to learn using these digital tools. But my students will.

  • I don't have time to check what other people posted. SORRY. I'm going to present a song I like to use in class. It's the song "I say a little pray for you" to teach adults the present continuous tenses. A lot of adults know this song, so they feel confortable to sing and think it's simple. We can substitute the continuous verbs of the song for others to change...

  • I found storybirf amazing. The student creates a book, they can publish and sell. It's fantastic.

  • It needs to be related to the lesson and make the vocabulary or grammar easier for students to understan.
-The resource will help you achieve your lesson aim.
If students like it, it will be much easier. It's very important that you know your group or students well.
-The resource is appropriate for the group of learners.
    -The topic is relevant and...

  • We have to observe our students to know what they would like or not.

  • I could use myself and the students. The lesson could be about clothing items and colors or characteristic and personality. For clothing itens and colors I would ask: what are you wearing today? What color is your blouse? Etc. The grammar could be the last of be. What were foi wearing yesterday? For characteristic and personality I would ask: What are you...

  • The grammar us "there is, there are and have you got...?", and the vocabulary is about objects.

  • It puts the students into the real world of English.

  • Homework books, apps to practise English grammar and some websites made by teachers containing games, explanations and exercises are examples of published materials. As for authentic material I would say that it's everything people can read or listen to in English. And realia is the real object itself.

  • They can try to make more words using those letters.

  • They are important to make our classes more interesting.

  • This week was really helpful. Thank you!

  • http://www.spokenskills.com/student-activities.cfm?section=studentpractice&practicepageID=408. I chose this one because you can record yourself and listen to it later to check if you got it right, and if not, observe in which part of the word you have to pay more attention.

  • It's difficult for Brasilians to pronounce the sound of "th" like in the words: the, there etc. What we can do to help students that have difficulties is to write some word that have similar, but different sounds on the board, explain the difference and give them pieces of paper with the sounds or phonemes written on them, and ask students to put them...

  • The first one is intonation she sounded jealous, the second she stressed the wrong word and the last one she mispronounced uncle making it sound like ankle.

  • You need to know the meanings of the word and what type of word it is, like: a verd, a noun, an adjective etc.

  • A game usually simplifies things for students. They can be about vocabulary, pronunciation or grammar. Almost everybody likes games making it easier for the teachers to introduce the subject.

  • We can use a conversation text to role play, music and worksheets.

  • I think they made those mistakes because some of them organized the sentences acording to their mother tongue, some mispelled words and others didn't pay attention in the grammar rules

  • My student like this type of activity. Sometimes I do it before the explanation and sometimes after. It helps to understand the order of the words in the sentence.

  • The first group is practising grammar that was taught before. The second is practising vocabulary that was also taught before and the last one is practising pronunciation that was taught before as well.

  • I give the entire class one set of phrases. I put them on the floor and all the students work together organizing while they hear the song. I play it twice for the class to to do it, the third time is for them to sing.

  • I feel more confident when teaching vocabulary and pronunciation. It is difficult for me to remember all of the grammar rules, so I don't feel so confident.

  • I hope I will learn more about language and how to use it correctly.

  • She is teaching grammar. She asks students to match the words and the definitions for them to understand what they mean. When she places examples on the board, she is teaching how to use those new words.

  • Thanks a lot!

  • First I would show them a video related to school subjects and going to school. After that I would give them a text about it, and ask them to read it and discuss. Then I would finish with this speaking activity.

  • Using the phone is something really nice. When I teach Basic levels I create groups on "What's up" and encourage them to write in English. If we are learning clothing items, I ask them what they are wearing, not in class, but during the week. They like it and they think it's fun. This way they enjoy practising.

  • In my opinion, it's very difficult to say what they want to a native person because native people speak fast and foreing people feel pressured to do so, and when they try they find it difficult to organize their sentences. Most of them are very worried about not speaking incorrectly and that's when they get nervous and sometimes make more mistakes then they...

  • For the first class of Basic1, I usually cut the sentences of the song, put them on the floor and ask the students to organize them as they hear. I like to use the song "Hello goodbye" from Beatles.

  • I think it's important to give them something they are interested in. If the students like sports, present something related to it. And also mix different activities before and after, like a game to introduce the topic and some new words from the text or a video. This way students may not feel bored and might enjoy the reading making it easier to learn.

  • Teachers have to speak acording to the student's level. If the student is a beginner use simple language, and make it less simple and more complicated as the student passes to upper levels.

  • When you read a novel, comic books, listen to a song or some jokes on the internet, you do it because you like it. You enjoy it. It is just for fun. But when you read a recipe, an article in a magazine about politicians, listen to the news on the radio or listen to an announcement at an airport you do it because you need the information. When you read a...

  • When you read or listen you receive information. It's extrinsic. Therefore when you speak or write you give information. It's intrinsic.

  • I believe it means being able to talk or to make others understand you without saying a word through a poster, a picture, miming etc.

  • I think she is giving them a text to read probably to introduce the grammar. She wants them to read not focusing on the unkown words but in the meaning of the text. I believe she asked them to talk about it first to make them talk and brainstorm more information about those people.

  • It's important to ask questions so students will speak and will know what to talk about. But there are some disavantages, too. For example, if it's a habit of the teacher to ask too many questions students will always wait for questions to speak.

  • A is too simple, there are some word missing. B is too complicated. C is not as complicated as B, but it still not easy for students to understand because it gives too much details. D is simple and straight to the point.

  • I think groups with adults are more difficult to manage because they take longer to understand and complete the worksheets. Kids also take a long time to do them, but I use a stopwatch and they usually finish before. I use a stopwatch with adults, too. But they hardly ever finish on time, they frequently need some extra time. When explaining things kids are...

  • For a matching activity I like to hang the new words they learnt the previous class on the walls inside the classroom and the definition or picture on the walls outside it. I normally give them some minutes to match as much as they can. Sometimes they also have to write on the board or if it's a big group they write on a piece of paper to practise writing...

  • It's very important for teachers to know the students preferences because it helps the teacher to prepare the lesson in order not to make it intereting for some students only.

  • I like to work in groups, in pairs or individual.

  • It all depends on the group I am teaching. If they are kids, I play songs, play games, show some funny videos, all related to the lesson. If they are adults I also play songs, but the activity is different. With kids we just sing to learn new words. With adults I generally create a worksheet with some gaps in the sentences and they have to write the words they...

  • I think a passanger took the picture. She was going to another city to work for a short period is time. Now she is back to her city. She checked the sky out of the window and saw how beautiful it was and decided to take the picture. After checking the picture she sent it to a friend or Family member.

  • Provide a balance between teacher talking time and student talking time. This is necessary to make students speak and not only listen.

  • I only had English classes on regular school. I don't know how it is nowadays, but when I was a child it wasn't very interesting. And also the attention given was not the same to all the students, the ones with good grades got more of it. That's one of the problems of having big groups, they can have students of different English levels. They can also like...

  • I hope to learn new techniques to get students' attention and interested in what is been taught.

  • Thank you! I really enjoyed this week.

  • I think it's the beginning of the lesson. And I also think that she is going to teach vocabulary. She is asking them questions to make them think and speak instead of just giving them the answers.

  • Very interesting. This is the first time I hear about TKT.

  • Thank you for the information. I don't remember any other.

  • I'm studying Portuguese (my mother toungue) and English. And I am doing it because I love languages and also am really interested in learning the correct way to speak. But I need it for my job as well. So I would say that my motivations are intrinsic and extrinsic.

  • I teach all levels and I enjoy each one of them. But the reasons they want to learn a new language are different, so their classes can't be the same. Teens and kids study English because of their parents, so their lessons have to be really interesting and fun. I have a very good time teaching this levels. I never give them worksheets, we only play games, walk...

  • Szia, Janaina vayok. Örvendek!

  • Is it possible for me, as a foreign teacher (Brazilian), to work in a US school? If yes, what do I need?

  • I've never thought of teaching in Angola before, but I think it could be enjoyable because as far as I know it's a very poor country. So, I guess I would be able to help the people by sharing my knowledge of English.

  • I have been teaching English for almost three years. I've taught people of all ages and I really enjoyed all my groups. I live and teach in Brazil, but I want to teach in different countries as well.

  • I really love to teach, because I enjoy helping people understand a different language. It's very grateful to see the student that once could not even use simple words in English be able to have long conversations. It's a respectable and responsible job. And I think language is fascinating.

  • Hi, I am studying Linguistics an I am also an English teacher. I want to improve my teaching skills.

  • Hi, I live in Joinville, Brasil.
