  • Hello again Viktor,
Unfortunately I could not finish the different parts of the course. But I'm seeing that I can follow it by myself.
I hope another course as soon as possible.
Thank you for your very good job .

  • I agree with Lucy Holmes.

  • I agree with Wing Kin. Trust is the best way to delegate responsibility. Nowadays the relationship between companies and stakeholders must be more transparent than ever.

  • I'm particularly interested in Ethics . And these lest lectures have helped me understand another side of the subject.

  • In my country, we say that you should always trust with one foot behind. Managing only the outcomes means a total loss of control, however In some situations, it may well work.

  • I agree with Alan Macdonald. More than ever, companies have the challenge of facing the competition and environment changes with creatve solutions. In this way, we have to invest more time and money to go ahead. But, from my point of view motivating talents is the most important
    strategy.

  • Sometimes I have "intellectual courage" when discussing any topic previously unknown to me because even my questions are based on total lack of information and I have to guess possibilities to solve a problem in a different way. And it worked!

  • As Carol, below, says, we should always keep our minds open for possible improvements.

  • I agree with Arten Bardas. The new scenarium is different and we have more risks to be manage in short-term an long-term. When a company knows its stakeholders and open the dialog with them, it would be possible mitigate riscks. The only possibility is to be more transparent applying good practices in order to lead the solution.

  • I agree with Alan Macdonald. We have a lot of business scandals around the world. In many cases the negative impact involves different stakeholders. On the other hand these cases are not discussed on the social environment.

  • Around 25 years ago, I did some research into the concept of "good work". I was studying "Ethics in the Work Environment", and the first aspect I noticed was the worker's engagement in their relationship with the employing company. There was a strong sense of pride among them regarding the responsible role of the company in society, despite the concept of...

  • As a whole this week "Knowledge Society" gave to us a very good panel about the different approachs we have in this field. At first, I guess that we are living in a very dynamic relationship, in a kind of environment everything can change so we have to consider knowlegde, context and knower as different sides of the same subject. Everything we have seen later...

  • First of all , we have here in this course a large information field. As I work for a big corporation I can observe that all these approachs are used for taking decisions.
Of course the co is fine and has proftible product, on the order hand we have to find out new comptences to maintain the core business, at the same time we have to study the environment and...

  • Hello Viktor,
I would like to tell you that I'm really liking this course. When we work in a big company we have to study scenarios and risks in the everyday production. On the order hand if we think about the future, new investment etc the internal competition between different sectors are very hard because we are not talking about risks anymore we are...

  • I come back to my last case where a traditional electricity co was still resusstent to invest in a renewable energy, always because of the prices of the panels in the international maket. When the company decided to invest in it the managers had a very good surprise because it was not about save money but open a new production. So, good for the co, good for...

  • From my point of view we are linving the "world of extritmiies" because evrything is so dynamic that it's almost impossible in this ocean.
In the energy industy for exemple, I've just had an interesting case: an electricity co started seting up
photovoltaics panels to supply energy for itself, and the result was amazing because with this expierence, the co...

  • Sharing knowledge would be common in a little group. In my case, this is not a tradition. We are a little group but we are not still able to share knowledge. Now, we have another direction and we are working to change it, but it's an everyday battle. People want to learn but they're very resistent to set up it.

  • I'm a sociologist and I'm coordinating the quality system process in a energy company. The company is very compact and has a little team as well. On the order hand the team is quite dynamic. Evrebody must understand the process in order to mitigate risks. I don't work within operation team, I'm at the head office and I'm in charge to organise, watch and...

  • I guess that I had very good data about some types of organisation's structure last week. We could think about corporatios as communities is the must interesting approach in this first week. I'm studing some different structures inside big corporates and the present tendencies of organisations which want go way to the future. I'm really liking this corse cause...

  • As a large organisation there is to much competition between teams.
FOR I had the opportunity to observe some cases like this, where the team was stronger and the leader was a very nice boss only to identify the weaknesses of the others.

  • As Iliana GuzmanIt I think it's important to consider many aspects before planing teams, and trying that the individuals will focus more on the goal.

  • The most important thing is the main goals we have to achieve. The team can be very helpful when each individual knows how important he is in the context. Diferent angles can be worked and shared, motivating each talent in benefit of the results.

  • Unfurtunately, I had a bad experience during 10 years, when I had to divide my function with a totally dificult, neorotic and indivudualist person. It was a nightmare. But worse than the fact itself, it was a management stratagy to stress both employees in order to divide the team and make people more vonarable. It's very common when the manager is insecure...

  • Very good summary!

  • It's a very interesting map. I think is usefull and clear.

  • Despite all the difficulties I have to follow the group, I'm vary happy to improve my background with all these kowledges about management and workeforce. I've no doubts that this course is a great source of information. I am happy to greet this team for this work .

  • When we depend on the technology, it's very important to the client so it's important encourage the technicians to be engange and understand how important in the chain of the process. Sometimes it can be vulnarable and frustrating.

  • 1) Yes it does. It is a very interesting model.
    2) I think we can find places were the model might break down, when the team is divided and the responsibility per se is not enough to encourage an emplyee. There are people very competitive that uses their ambitions negatively.

  • From my point of view, managers have themselves different goals to achieve. the everyday life in the workplace can change all the time. In order to face theses challanges we need a general RH policies, but each sector of the company has to encourage and motivate the employees to be engage with hinself, with the sector and with the company. The concept of...

  • From my point of view, these theories can be apply according the organisation structure and its level of maturity. Sometimes we would like to work in one way, but we have to adapt systems, process and consider the company's strategies and achieves. Because of this, I think we have to monitor the different variants we can find in certain organisation.

  • I was invited to work in a bigest brazilian company for babycare products. At that time, the company had a owner and a traditional organogram. But the president (owner) decided to improve the worplace with new thecnologies, new building, confortable workeplace environement etc. All the team (oprational and administrantion) was very motivated with those...

  • Acctually when we read all these answer, we can notice how enthusiastic people are with Herzberg theory, it's more usefull when we think the workplace environment as a community.

  • 1) Also known as Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory and dual-factor theory, I agree with Sue Harris when she says that Herzberg was a pioneer of “job enrichment”.
    2) The most interesting point in this theory is that we can identify and cross different sub-itens to achieve different results for special case or different environment.
    3) In theory, we heve to...

  • 1) Known as Three Needs Theory, McClelland believes that achievement, power and affiliation are motivational drivers for all people in any country, in any group situation.
    2) I personally beleive that most people persue achievement, many persue affiliation, but only some are driven by power needs.
    3) Despite being attractive at first sight, the limitation...

  • 1)Maslow's theory intends to demostrate what motivates people. His five stage model can be divided into basic (or deficiency) needs (e.g. physiological, safety, love, and esteem) and growth needs (self-actualization).
    2) As each need is realized the person moves up the pyramid. One limitation here is that in 2015, most people begin at third level thereby...

  • 1)McGregor's theories can aplly to both managers end employees. McGregor views Theory Y to be more valid and reasonable than Theory X. Thus, he encouraged cordial team relations, responsible and stimulating jobs, and participation of all in decision-making process.
In my expirience, theory X managers tend to be more contollung wheareas theory Y managers give...

  • 1- I'm personally interested in Ethics and Globalisation topics.
2- http://www.transparency.org/cpi2014/results : this is a very recent publication about the corruption around the world. Regarding my country, Brazil, we can find it in 69th position in terms of risk.
3- More than ever the subject of Ethics and corruption is being discussed. Now we have a...

  • This course has opened my mind and updated my thinking. I have learnt to take a much wider view of issues and now see that the problems I have are also shared by others.
Further, treating people on an invividual basis for the benefit of the team, being both strategic and logical, must be the best way forward.

  • I have had the opportunity to know different companies and organisations. Sometimes I could see managers only acting for themselves. But I really think that managers can achieve better results if they are able to motivate their teams considering that each emplyee has his own talent. Actually, integration between management and their teams provides the best...

  • There are different factors for motivated a kind of behaviour in the worplace. There are people that just like to produce and use their mind to solve problems as well as there are people wich main reason an motivation is money. So when we observe the individuals different selves we can have more chance to enhance our processes.

  • As Care Maclow, I believe " understanding individual differences is a crucial aspect of people management, as the team leader needs to know and understand individual team members and their strengths/weaknesses/support needs, so that they may support them to work effectively as part of the team, and to grow.
Psychometric theories can help develop this...

  • I believe that the real motivation comes from a mix of factors. Presentelly, I'm really motivated by learning and developing myself.

  • Just like Catherine, I think it is very satisfying to write out procedures. I feel happy in participating in a group that is reorganising the internal controls and compliance systems within the company.

  • Not totally.
Because in the workeplace the manager has to study the problem of the individual and offer some support or advice. But whether he accepts it .....

  • Yes, I have seen it, and the subordinate was there looking at the scene in silence waiting for a better moment to explain.
Yes they have done in the past. The problem was concerning the time we had to deliver the work, and some people of the team didn't contribute enough.

  • Yes, I believe it's important to ensure a comfortable work environment for the employees.

  • I agree partially with the statement because it depends on each individual's attitudes.

  • Worldwide organisations have to employ a set of commitments with their stakeholders:
.Defined targets, ethiical values, transparancy and sustainability should all be included.

  • I agree with Lodesca Livingston. I can observe this situation in my workplace. When we a feedback from the manager we can thinking more critically about our effectiveness and try to improve our performance.

  • I'm applying a lot of concepts and tools in my workeplace. Mainly to think about situations and not judge it.

  • I believe this learning is really helping me to understand the actual moment. reflecting with these tools I'm feel more confident to exame the situations and submit more projects to the company.

  • Unfortunatly I was an "eyewitness" to the devastating effects of the non conformity of bosses attitudes. The organisation has a policy of values and formally we are compliance with this. On the order hand, we know that some managers controlls strategic positions in order to prevent formal complains. I din't have any opportunity to talk about the problem, but...

  • We know that a good organisation works to develop good values, on the other hand, in a real relationship in the workplace we have to take decisions quickly, whithout thinking about people feelings neither ourselves feelings. It depends of the situation of the company. Personally, I think that the ideal situation is considered job and feelings.

  • First of all, this video is very realistic about the organisation environment. In therory the AMO is very usefull and is a good tool to manage people. Positive attittudes, open mind, attention to detail foccusing on the organisation objectives is an important path to motivate people to be engaged with the job. Avoid negative reactions is important as well. In...

  • Feedback of the manager is very important to motivate the employee. When we have a dynamic culture in the workplace, we can face challanges, we can learn much more and we can see the product of our job.

  • Like Chantal Mendes, I also work for a charitable institution. Of course, we can not compare so different structures and functions between a private company and an institution where we count on the volunteers. In both cases one attribute is very important: how motivate is its workforce?

  • Formal 5 and informal 5: As I said before< I'm working for a global organisation. Then I can ramark both aspects. We have a formal structure for the production, on the other hand, we have a very dynamic team which shares opinions, discuss different angles of the matter and analyses it critically in order to improve the process.
From my point of view, we are...

  • Definitely:
objectives, transparancy, clear comunication, correct resources, social responsibility, respect are some of the main ways for an organisational effectiveness.

  • We are living a revolution in my workplace. Now, we can really use a formal evaluation systems, which w didn't have before. In this case, a plan of gols and tranparancy with the team is a good way to achieve the objectives.

  • First of all, we must have the ability to delegate and also compromise. It's important to engage people so that they feel motivated.

  • I believe that the psychometric tests are important to guide us to identifie somepositives and negatives attributes of an invdividual. This is a kind of tool that help us to analyse tendences and how they can useful in a work position. On the other hand, we should never forget that when we are thinking about human being and them behavior, we can not take it...

  • I think that in a company this statement is very usufull. Two points should be considered: first the strategy to achieve the objectives. As I'm living this situation I have to observed each individual and his identity and attributes at the same time I have to consider the possibilities that the individual can achieve and help him or her.

  • Brazil is a very special country. First of all, it has a large territory where we can discover many different culltures and the way of life. But when we compare the past and the present, we can observe qualities in booth situations. Actually, in the present is so fast than we have to update our knowlegde everyday to be better and improve our ideas finding new...

  • As for other students, English is a very important tool at work, at business meetings and for reports. We can remarque that the formal style or the good language is being currupted. When I have to read a bad and wrong English I'm not comfortable then I think the same about my self whe I write badly.
So it's very important to practice and find different paths...

  • Hello, I'm from Brazil and I'm working for a big company where we have to speak with different people around the world. So, English language is used in many meetings. I like to study languages and I speak French, Italien, Spanish and Portuguese as well.

  • At the moment, I'm going through a similar situation. I work in a big company and we have to understand that the organization changes all the time. In fact, these changes are common and force the employees to leave their confort zone. This kind of subject oe approach is helping me to understand all the process and it also motivates me to apply this method in...

  • Things are changing so fast here and people are worried about how this will affect them.
At this moment, we have new managers that are broaking the confort zone of each employee . Natrally, a lot of people are worried and under pressure, on the other hand if we consider a new challange for us, we can exeperiment a good oportunity to learn more.

  • In my case,I'm working for a big company, in Brazil. Personaly, I observe all the team, but each person is one special world and I try to identify the indivial attributes and compare the skills we need in a function. There are some positions where we need good texts, concentration or research, them I consider that profile, values and attributes are always...

  • easier if, we all had the same objectives.
