  • Thank you for spotting the video wasn't working - we have now replaced the link.

  • Thanks for spotting this - I have removed the link for now as it doesn't seem to be secure.

  • We've noticed that the video above isn't available in all countries. If you are unable to view it, try this link instead (from 2 mins 30): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biTiK0zFJsQ

  • @JenniferBeggs The FutureLearn platform doesn't make location visible to others by default in the comments, but you can see it in users' profiles (if they have added it). You're welcome to share your location in the chat if you want to (general area not address obviously!).

  • We've been made aware that the video linked to in the poll feedback is no longer publicly available. We are in the process of updating the feedback to correct this. EDIT: this has now been corrected.

  • Thank you for spotting this - the video owner had made the link private - I have amended the link and the video should now be showing.

  • @kashemwaMigaboGivano Sorry for the lack of transcript on this video, that was an oversight. We have added them now.

    Well spotted! We've corrected it.

  • Thank you for spotting that - we've updated the link now.

  • @RosemaryBenard yes you might be right about Teams and your work account. The chat isn't recorded with the video but the team will go through it and pick out any links, etc and Pam is going to share some recommended reading shortly. But do get in touch if you have any other questions about it.

  • Hi Rosemary, sorry you had problems with the chat during the session. I could see your messages and replied, but I don't think you could see mine! I hope you managed to participate successfully with audio/video instead.

  • Sorry you had problems joining the webinar - we recorded it and have made the link available above.

  • Hi Mary, sorry you weren't able to download Teams, we recorded the webinar and have made the link available above.

  • Unfortunately the second video we linked to has been removed from YouTube so we have taken it out of this step. The first video does show the differences in Thatcher's vocal styles so you will still be able to complete the activity.

  • Apologies, the BBC quiz seems to no longer be available on their website, so we have removed the link.

  • There is a link to a recording of the live chat on Step 6.2 https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/introduction-to-applied-linguistics/5/steps/774559

  • Sorry for the delayed reply - there is a link to a recording of the discussion on Step 6.2 https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/introduction-to-applied-linguistics/5/steps/774559

  • Hi @FionaAnderson we've now added a link to the recording above.

  • Thank you to those who attended the webinar yesterday. For those who couldn't attend, we have added a link to the recording and the slides above.

  • Apologies, we have corrected the mistake - it runs from 2.30pm-3.30pm (UK time).

  • Sorry about that typo - the live chat begins at 2.30pm UK (BST) time on the 23 June.

  • Thanks Roger - we've amended the link now.

  • Thank you to those who noticed the lesson study link was incorrect - we have now changed the link to go to the World Association of Lesson Study website.

  • @MarkRobertson Thanks for flagging this - I have corrected the link now.

  • Hi Muhammad, we have noticed you have copied some comments from other learners - if you agree with what other learners are saying, it is possible to 'like' their comment rather than copying and pasting them.

As mentioned in the FutureLearn code of conduct "The comments and assignments you post are your own work, and if you quote anything from another place...

  • Thank you to those who have let us know that the Work Talk website has been taken down for maintenance. Please accept our apologies. In the meantime I have amended the link to take you to resources for employers, which you can download and discuss.

  • Thank you - this must have been missed, we have added in the subtitles now.

  • Thanks for your feedback on the transcript - I have amended it the incorrect words, and we will look again at the videos before the next run of the course to make sure the graphs aren't obscured.

  • Hi Breana, we will record the session and make it available afterwards.

  • Sorry you're having problems recording on the Padlet board. I've checked the settings and it should be working. If you double click on any of the existing recordings it will just play them back, but if you scroll down a bit and double click on a blank bit of the board, it will then add a new comment box for you to record to at the top.

  • Thank you very much to those who took part in the web chat this afternoon, we hope you found it useful. If you weren't able to make it, a recording of the webinar and a transcript of the discussion is now available to download at the bottom of this page.

  • Thanks to those who've offered to share their completed tables. Unfortunately it isn't possible to upload directly into the FutureLearn platform, but we've set up another Padlet board where you can share them (password: PhDLeicester) https://padlet.com/uollearnteach/9yf3mz5kak6r

  • Sorry that some of you are unable to access the video clip. It is hosted on the BBC website which may be unavailable in some locations. The same video is available here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqnripjBvko

  • Thanks for pointing this out, we have now changed the link to a working video.

  • Please accept our apologies for the broken link. The Norfolk Records Office has removed the online exhibition leaflets, but have given us permission to use a PDF of the will which is now in the downloads section at the bottom of this page.

  • Apologies, the link had been updated. I've corrected it now.

  • @BC @EmilyDrummond @AmyJaneBarnes sorry for the confusion - it should have said 'data generated through, for example, field study or interviews' (hence 'artificial' - i.e. made from study). I have amended it now.

  • Apologies, it should be working now.

  • A recording of the webinar presentation and a transcript of the discussion is now available to download in Step 6.2.

  • Apologies - we hadn't anticipated how many of you would get involved with this activity! I've now changed the layout of the Padlet board so that all the comments can be seen.

  • @DrGrahamSmith The date of birth is part of the standard FutureLearn form, and not something we at Leicester can change. It is an optional field though so you don't need to give that information if you don't want to. If you have completed the form, your contact details will be passed to us and we will be in touch with you about further study once this course...

  • Well spotted - I've amended those typos!

  • Apologies, the BBC link appears to have moved. You can access the quiz here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/1jPjJL65X853RMZ23lTxBLg/quiz-guess-the-accent

  • Well spotted! I've corrected it - I'd like to say it was a deliberate mistake but unfortunately not.

  • There seem to be problems loading the video on that page on some browsers. We've amended the link to go to the video on the BBC site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-13748889

  • Please accept our apologies, the website has moved to a different address and we have now amended the links so they work properly.

  • Hi Anthea, we haven't yet planned a date for the next run of People Studying People but it is likely to be early in 2018. If you register your interest in the course page you will be notified when the next run is scheduled.

  • Thank you for spotting that. We've amended it.

  • Hi Kathy, the course is being run again on the 28th August so we hope you will be able to join us then.

Roger - thank you for spotting the broken link, I have removed it for now as the site it was linking to no longer appears to be maintained.

We, along with FutureLearn, made the decision to run this course much more regularly so that you have more...

  • Thanks again for all your comments, and we appreciate many people aren't happy with this change in pricing. As I mentioned above, the upgrading is being rolled out to all FutureLearn partners. I would recommend emailing FutureLearn directly with your concerns (feedback@futurelearn.com), rather than in the course comments which are intended for discussing the...

  • Thanks for all your comments on upgrading. The option to upgrade is being rolled out by FutureLearn – it is not exclusive to this specific course or the University of Leicester. There is more information here: https://about.futurelearn.com/blog/upgrading-futurelearn-courses/

  • Thanks Trevor, the link is working now.

  • Well spotted, thanks, we've amended it.

  • Well spotted Harry, thanks for letting us know. We've amended the transcript.

  • It is being recorded so if you are unable to access it, it will be available here afterwards.

  • What happens when you click 'Enter Room'? Do you get an error message?

  • Can you join the webchat as a guest?

  • The audio transcript is at the bottom of the page as a PDF.

  • Well spotted and thanks for pointing it out Mags S. We've amended the subtitles to read correctly now.

  • Hi Grahame, does this link work?

  • Thanks Helen for spotting that we have corrected it.

  • Thank you for spotting that! We have corrected it.

  • We have corrected the errors in the glossary. Thank you to William and Fritz for spotting them.

  • Thank you for the comments - we've now corrected these errors.

  • Just a note to say that we've slightly amended the wording of question 2 of this week's test as it may have been misleading.
