  • Where I live there are an increasing amount of charity groups and independent bodies that take action and review climate adaptation processes and activities. The UK government is working on plans and policies around the topic and through regional and local councils they provide funding to help different communities adapt to their changing environments.

  • @FredFulford hey! you might find this useful :) https://www.greencareershub.com/

  • I'm not sure if maybe China's One Child Policy would be classed as internal dynamic of a country on the planet, or an external drive of a government over its people, but that definitely caused a population fluctuation.

  • Hayley Lloyd made a comment

I do very much think that plants, animals, humans have adapted in stages to the climate they are exposed to and I would think that evolution evidences this. I feel that the 'individualistic' theory can also apply and could be evidenced but it's too chaotic a theory to be able to produce any workable hypothesis with and maybe isn't liked so much for people to...

  • Thank you for providing the press release from NASA as a good example, which helped me compare and review my own submission for the assignment.

  • I could honestly listen to Julia's voice every time I ever need to learn anything, it's so clear and interested it really helps me stay engaged with what's being said :)

  • Patience, determination and being able to focus on the bigger picture and main aim of the work, especially when things keep going wrong!

  • I would probably go to a space agency website for the facts

  • Some knowledge from school, but a lot through personal research with books when I was younger, youtube videos, websites, galleries of photos from space taken by NASA or other agencies. I hadn't heard about the term 'Jovian' used for the 'gas giants' planets, so already learning new things!

  • Hi I'm Hayley, 28 and love learning anything relating to the cosmos :)

  • Wow this was difficult to watch! Unfortunately I've seen this from people before towards colleagues of mine and it's been difficult to see that behaviour and be unable to confront it how I would like to say with a friend or family member. This is just rude! The meeting was arranged and booked for an hour yet she treated it like he had completely intruded on...

  • I really like this simple, 4 square diagrams, to show different types, like with the stakeholder power/interest diagram from earlier in the course :)

  • Internal advertising – email, intranet, newsletter, etc.
Advantages: If you can recruit from within the company then this can save you time and money advertising externally and you are also not bound by job advertising procedures in the public market.
Disadvantages: Very small reach compared to advertising externally and limited audience if only using emails...

  • 1. Based on my own experience working in Further Education, this role can be absorbed within the other members of the team (where possible) and may not need recruiting for.
    2. I would recruit for a Fixed Term position to meet the needs of this contract, especially as I have identified that the team does not have the skill needed
    3. This role again could be...

  • Really good interview, I felt she came across really well and some brilliant points she made relatable to the audience

  • What is the idea?
How have you calculated that you need $50,000?
How successful is this business likely to be?
Is it a new idea or is there already an over-run market doing a similar thing?
How long will it take to make my money back?
What is your 1 year, 3 year and 5 year plan?

  • Doesn't surprise me but definitely made me consider how the Media can be an urgent and powerful stakeholder, who a business may need to please or communicate with immediately, but don't have much legitimacy in relation to the businesses plans and service. Definitely agree with businesses giving back to local communities and their employees.

  • I really like this tool, this definitely helps provide me with a structure to be able to identify and record which stakeholders have more interest and more power

  • My role involves a high amount of quantitative data and this is what is gathered, recorded and shared between teams. I collect qualitative data from our customers to analyse my own performance and service provided through feedback comments.

  • I really like Favell's flow chart! It's such an interesting way to see a process laid out that and make so much relatable sense. Also interesting to remember how when we speak of data and how important it is, but it's actually more than just data that make it accessible, with processes and formats added to it, not just a spread-sheet of calculations with no...

  • I am definitely a Theorist! I can take a lot more time to learn things as I have to investigate how or why that thing is and understand the concept of something to then be able to learn and apply it.

  • A crime scene investigator! Mainly from my love of the CSI franchise and other crime series. This is COMPLETELY different to my role now in a college, recruiting for apprenticeships! I realised I played to my strengths of administration, customer service and interest in education which led me to where I am now as a realistic yet still interesting career.

  • Communication can only register effectively when it builds on what the audience already knows. I feel this is important to know the current knowledge and skill of the delegatee to effectively explain the task you would like them to complete and how.
The wider environment can often add to or detract from your message. I feel this is a good point to think about...

  • Terrible! She'll gain no respect from staff by coming in and being so blunt and offensive. It sounds like she is aware that the previous manager has contributed to the current working situation, but yet still seems to blame the employees themselves. She could still inform them of what she has noticed around the working environment and how she is going to...

  • I feel that Theory X is good for high demand situations such as factory work or production environments to ensure work continues at a high and fast pace. Theory Y is more for groups of people working closely together such as in an office, restaurant staff and other customer facing roles where the team need to discuss and improve their customer service and...

  • love this! I can very much see this when I think of how I would tell a story to friends

  • Would even using the word 'run' to explain he delivers the Writing Programme, be a metonymy (to a non-native speaker) or am I looking to deep into this?

  • This is really interesting and highlights just how much we speak with metaphors! I feel my day-to-day conversations are littered with them. Working in education this is especially interesting to understand how terms can come across which might seem obvious to native speakers.

  • Agreed!

  • I would love to see this!

  • This is pretty cool!

    Bangers and mash
    Pie and liquor
    Apples and pears
    Nice and spicy
    Nice and clean
    Nice and tidy
Nice and tall (like in school when they tell you to "stand up straight, nice and tall!"
    Slice and dice
    Good and bad

  • I would love to take this type of test myself and not only learn about what words I take longer time with but also to decipher how I read, such as do I miss words, do I read dialogue faster than paragraphs etc

  • I was very keen to complete the experiment but I must be honest in that I lost interest just over half way through the listening task - sorry!

  • Now this sounds a lot more up my street :)

  • I feel like it involved shouting, running, partying and walking up and down something like a hill or mountain. I'm sure I saw the familiar signing for either day & night or sunrise and sunset.

  • I would like to think some of the signs I saw were not arbituary, such as what i thought was 'going up', 'sleeping', i want to say 'dancing or happiness', 'going down' and 'running'. I'm so interested to find out what the script of this is!

  • Very curious too! This should be fun!

  • hahaha :)

  • This is incredibly interesting, I myself thought BSL was at least loosely based or stemmed from English language but to find that it naturally created itself through deaf communities coming together is amazing.

  • This is so interesting, i had no idea that there were groups of different gestures and how these can be grouped together. I was able to think of examples for each one once it was explained and I'm sure I will now be looking out for each type and trying to identify them

  • Hi everyone! Very excited for this course, i've been waiting a long time for something like this!

  • I also have a feeling it may have been set up my Mr Ward, as soon as the seat covers were mentioned it popped in my mind that it may have been purposeful for this incident. Also unsure whether there should be more disturbances in the car itself if there was a struggle? Like Mrs Ward losing a shoe or looking more dishevelled if she's put up a struggle when her...

  • I am really looking forward to this! I didn't think it was going to be a course in this style but I am so glad it is!

  • Most knowledge, or what I assume is a truth rather than fiction, comes from TV shows, movies and novels I have read relating to crime/murder mysteries.

  • Nice to meet you!

  • In the UK we have fan clubs and groups for singers and other types of celebrities, which could include fans who go to every concert or run social media pages sharing quotes and photos of their favourite celebrity, but there is a great distance placed between fans and idols with the bigger the idol then the more difficult it is to be near them, such as with...

  • When thinking of other anime/manga I have come across that have school clubs not linked to sports or games I think of Ouran High School Host Club, which is most definitely different! I also think of anime such as Shugo Chara with the Guardian Club which seem so have the same authority as the school staff, if not higher in some cases.

  • Such a good comment :)

  • Agreed!

  • I feel I am even more interested in the term/subculture of 'kawaii' now that I can see this power and mystery that comes from the person or object labelled as 'kawaii'. The idea of something most see as vulnerable, innocent and submissive to actually being the one in control or have power over the audience is an aspect I'd never considered before.

  • Hayley Lloyd made a comment

    Again such an interesting article!

  • This was a really interesting article to read and has helped me understand on a much deeper level the idea and use of Shōjo

  • I first interacted with Japanese subculture as a child through addictively cute and exciting anime cartoon shows and a few manga books that I had been gifted growing up. As i grew older I've retained a love for anime with it's high energy, exciting storylines and style of animation is aesthetically pleasing. Alongside this I have grown to love Japanese video...

  • 여러분 안녕하세요! I have recently completed the ‘Introduction to Korean’ Course so this is naturally my next course. I'm excited to continue to learn useful words and phrases that will help me converse with Korean speakers!

  • Not many mountains in England, a few steep hills or 'Downs' though :) We do still enjoy walking holidays through the countryside and camping. Many walks may involve a rest stop, often at a pub or cafe for refreshments and food before walking again.

  • I would love to visit a 찜질방, i've watched a few Youtubers visit them and they try all these different areas and eat yummy looking eggs :)

  • Seoul! No area in particular really just anywhere with great food and lots of history to learn about the culture further :)
In England there's an array of places depending on your interests; the Lake District is popular for walking and hiking with beautiful views, London for busy, fast paced food and entertainment, Cornwall for the warmest weather and surfing...

  • All of the different types of cafes sound so much fun! :)

  • I thought the soup sounded tasty too :)

  • I also really want to try Dangun shinhwajeon!

  • In my area in England and possibly a cultural trait, we try so politely to catch the waiter's eye or sit patiently until anyone comes by that can help us. This does mean that sometimes you are waiting for a long time and you can get quite frustrated. When you do finally get a waiter's attention it's most likely you'll be polite even if you have been waiting a...

  • Knife and fork here in England! I do use chopsticks if I'm ever eating North East and South East Asian food so I can get some practice in for when I eventually travel there :)

  • I have been to 2 Korean restaurants in Soho, London and tried Bibbimbap at both places, with mandu and kimichi sides. At one of them they did a Kimchi Bloody Mary which was sooooo good :) I love the beauty of bibbimbap with all of the colourful ingredients laid out separately and it's very inviting. I've always loved dumplings/mandu/gyoza so they never fail to...

  • It was definitely a taste I hadn't experienced before! I have tried the cabbage kimchi it in chain restaurants a couple of times and have bought a pot from Korea Foods in London to have at home. I would to go to an authentic Korean restaurant to try it properly.

  • From Korean movies I have seen, I have seen the actors eat black bean noodles, Korean bbq or cup ramen!

  • In the video the lady speaks about how many brands are going to Instagram first to promote themselves, so not about which channel is their main one but what they start with :)

  • Thank you so much for the link to your other courses! :D

  • In the British lifestyle genre, I find influencers like InTheFrow, Helen Anderson and many fitness bloggers are influential because they stay current, use the right language and post at the best times to catch people's attention. They post really original content, some super good quality and beautiful photos on Instagram and some not so good but make up for it...

  • Posts with images with contrasting colours, or images with a colour filter on it so it's the aesthetic of that brand. Short Twitter posts I'm most likely to read, but with an interesting picture I'll read the longer ones!

  • Really interesting to hear how businesses are using Instagram as their first channel to promote their brand, I've just always thought Facebook would be where they start but I can completely see how it's Instagram as I use this app the most and engage more with businesses as it feels more personal and fun than Facebook or Twitter in fact!

  • The top tips for using Twitter effectively!

  • I would say Facebook or Twitter because of the ease of sharing/re-tweeting, but I feel Instagram would be more interesting now with the use of the Story feature providing live video updates.

  • College students: Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Snapchat, Pinterest
    Young professionals: LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter
Women aged 40+: Twitter, Youtube, Pinterest

  • Describing the importance of setting objectives, to really understand what the goal is and how you will get there, also how much time you have and what you are willing to do to reach that goal

  • I feel the social media brands i see are posting based on my previous Like history and other things I click on, so may be too personal for me to describe in detail? But mainly fashion, local services and health apps.

  • I use social media both for personal and business use. I tend to keep my personal opinions low on my personal account and obviously none on the business account.

  • I am most interested in working the best ways to use social media to build and enhance the company I work for

  • Hi everyone! I'm excited to learn more about choosing the right content for the right purpose and audience on social media :)

  • My favourite film is Girl, Interrupted but also a huge fan of anything by Studio Ghibli. I don't do much sport so could e-sport count? As i play pleeeeenty of computer games :D

  • Really interesting :)

  • https://vocaroo.com/i/s10hfQHt1Nfy - definitely going to need to get used to hearing my own voice! >.<

안녕하세요? 저는 해리 입니다 :) (using my nickname Hayley)

  • Hi everyone, my name is Hayley and I am from England. I have been attempting to learn Korean on and off for the past couple of years, but am not the best at self-study and keeping up my commitment! I hope this course will kick start my focus again and I will continue to develop my Korean language skills. Really looking forward to this so good luck everyone ! ^_^

  • British, Eldest Child, Working Class, 'Good' upbringing, strong work ethic, PC gamer, language lover :)

  • I haven't been in the same situation with Markus as in with people from a different culture, I've been in a similar situation with people from my own culture in my own town! It's difficult to adapt when you have expected so much from something, but I guess I would be more open-minded in this situation as I know that I am in my home country or with people I...

  • Being British I often expect a lot of certain behaviours from others and can get unnecessarily offended if they don't happen. For example such little things as, not saying thank you when I hold a door open, someone not saying sorry if they slightly walk in my path (which I then would naturally respond with 'sorry' and then they would say 'sorry' again back),...

  • Hi I'm Louise and I was born in England and have lived here all my life (so far!). My Grandma was Irish and I also have a strong Scottish heritage. I'm afraid I'm not overly interesting culturally but I hope to develop this by studying in Korea next year and who knows I may live out there for a while too :) I do see myself as typically British/English,...

  • Very excited for next week, I am pleasantly surprised at not only how much I have learnt in this first week, but how easily I have learnt it due to the fantastic way the information is presented and the Professor's delivery and questioning approach to it. Thank you!

  • yes thank you, understood now :)

  • Thank you everyone! And Jantine I'm so happy we can share in this interest :)

  • The Cold war and the clash of 'East' and 'West'

  • I think terrorism is the most pressing issue in global politics as rather than an issue that grows it can be an instant issue with a huge affect on the public's trust in their government and can cause internal issues within the government itself as to, say, what urgent plans of actions required. Any rushed or wrong decisions made can not only affect one...

  • I read this the same way Jantine, good question!

  • I had never thought about South Korea's position, with its close economic relationship with China and its ties with USA since the Korean War, actually what a powerful position it is in. Fantastic introduction.

  • Hi I'm Hayley and I live in England :) I have been interested in Korea for a couple of years now and hope to visit in the next few years! My view of South Korea is built from reading about its culture, speaking to natives and tasting famous dishes that I can try here in the UK :) I am interested in its growth in world, including the 'Hallyu' wave and the...
