  • The exercise made me think more clearly about the situation in mind, I could look back at myself with a different mindset and realise that at the time I was feeling anxious, possibly a panic attack and putting a hand over my heart and having compassion for myself rather than being judgemental about myself I felt more calm and I could see the situation for what...

  • This has been a wonderful course, I've learnt so much more about researching consisely and with different varieties of sources, and on how to be more vigilant about avoiding plaigerism.

  • I will in future, cross reference my sources more fully. I intend to make more notes by hand in a note book so that I'm not tempted to copy and paste. Making full care and attention to note any quotable references.

  • Coral bleaching on The Great Barrier Reef has had the world's conservationists and scientists, conflicting in opinions and although this event is in fact true, it is not the end of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. In October of 2016, Rowen Jacobsen wrote an obituary for the Great Barrier Reef, saying that it was dead and it should be mourned. This was posted on...

  • Very thought provoking, it is good to look further at others opinions and build evidence through documents, polls, and social media opinions.

  • This section has been very informative to me and using these methods in my writing is going to make this area of my work so much clearer and using these referencing ideas, especially the freely available ones, very worthwhile.

  • I will make myself a thought cloud and add new sources as I discover them. I'll likely analyse my own sources by cross referencing with other reliable and trusted sources.

I am looking forward to learning more.

  • I feel I now have a larger search range and have discovered different ways to search such as Bolean terms and using truncation. The options for searching for journals and articles will be very useful to me too. I'm looking forward to week 2.

  • I will definitely be trying these methods of search, I've found this to be quite an eye opener.

  • very informative use of search engines. I will try this method to reduce unwanted information and to increase the results I do want included.

  • A very interesting lesson in using search terms and changing the wording to find different results. I tried to think about how somebody else might look at at the subject and why they might be searching. Looking at it from a different view point if you like.

  • I found Google Scholar very interesting. I will be checking for informative articles there when I research my next project.

  • This information is a very useful insight.

  • I often start my hunt for information by using Google with a broad term and checking what information comes up, next I cross reference different sources, such as websites containing the information I'm looking for. I check for authenticity of the information given by the references given, and I'll also check what other popular searches there on the subject.

Hello I'm Janine from England, and I would like to learn better research skills and more reliable ways of researching information when I'm writing articles or blogs online.

  • It's an interesting concept that others may perceive different types of communication to be disrespectful due to their beliefs and cultures. For instance, I use eye contact a lot in conversations because I have some hearing issues. Direct eye contact through a face to face conversation helps me understand what's being said. Others may not realise that and so...

  • I feel many of the learners have multiple factors that make up their individual cultures. Personally, I think it changes with every experience online or in-person as well as being influenced by the courses we learn too. It all has something to contribute to what makes up our culture.

  • I feel my main influence is my family heritage and where I grew up, some other factors would be due to the places I visit and hobbies. My major influences are certainly family ones.

  • Traditions, backgrounds, heritage

  • The course is already making me think abd feel differently about my own communication style, I'm feeling more confident in person to person communication and I'm learning more about how to get more confident in using video. I usually feel better using text or email.

  • Ali would do well to remember breathing exercises before attending a face to face meeting or doing a presentation to help her to relax her body before speaking. Taking time to think about the reasons behind the meeting, or to decide on the most important points she wants to make before starting the presentation or meeting so that she does not loose her thought...

  • Although as afore mentioned, email has its drawbacks, it is still my preferred way to communicate. I like the written word, not only is it what I do as a hobby as a blogger, but I can always look back at what was said if I forget details. When it's verbal through a phone call for example I might have missed something, small details that are important to...

  • This part of the course has really made me think about interpersonal skills that I use, and I feel I can take stock of how I currently communicate and change my perspective.

  • I think it's important to communicate clearly and with respect in a working environment and also a very strong listener. Collaborative working practices require great listening skills and at same time, remember the situation. Whether you are with a customer or a colleague can change the tone as can the type of communication, phone or email will alter your...

This is a really thought provoking exercise, it really makes one look deeper into ourselves and think about who our true self is. How do we define who we are? Are we the inner self, the mother, daughter, or do we actually define ourself by our work or career title alone? This really made me think.

  • I found this exercise very useful to look more closely into my own way of communicating with others. Quite and eye opener.

  • I find that reaction can often be the first response we go to, but this can be a bad decision and doesn't communicate our real perspective. When we're mindful in our response and communicate in a conscious manner, we are better at responding and to a better end.

  • Hello, I'm Janine and I write blogs on a wide variety of topics and I'm from the UK. I'm looking forward to learning more about being a better communicator and more through this course.

What a fun exercise and this kind of practice makes real sense.

  • I can identify with many of the points made. I had to present my findings in front of a panel of teachers and chair of governors at school when I was a governor, I'd have to read out my reports and explain my findings in full and reply to questions. Sometimes I'd get nervous and stutter. But I also enjoyed the presentation and felt good about the many...

  • I was quite shocked that so many others were as unconfident as myself with their presentation skills.

  • I feel that savoring little moments such as the refreshing feel of the frosty cold air in the morning, the way it feels on the skin, noticing how refreshing it seems as I I'm breathing in the cold morning air.

  • I found this very interesting and had not thought of some of these methods to express my gratitude before, I shall begin practicing this more often. Thank you for enlightening me.

  • What a lovely exercise and it really did make me think. There's so much to be grateful for.

  • I think the way to resolve this, is to be mindful of what it feels like to be shown gratitude and to be mindful of what others have given to us that we are grateful for and remind ourselves to pay that forward in showing our gratitude. I feel when someone receives our gratitude it is more likely that they too will pass on that positiveness to others.

  • I could bring more positiveness into my life which in turn would help reduce stress levels and sleep patterns would then surely be improved too. I hope to be able to pass on the gratitude habit to others in my life as a more regular pattern.

  • I'm hoping to get a more in-depth knowledge of how gratitude can be a larger factor in my life to help keep things in perspective and to let the little things reward more.

  • Positive engagements and reflections are good.

  • The perfect course for this fast paced life we live. There is so much to be positive about and grateful for that is right in front of us, but sometimes it's hard to see it or feel positive.

  • I think that's a fair point, I'm sure I wouldn't mind being asked to complete it as long as it's done confidently and ethically and be acted on according.

  • She has multiple factors at play. Excessive pressure and too many hours. A very unbalanced work and personal life situation along with little or no support from management or peers.

  • I feel I'm going to learn a great deal from these exercises and also what's been mentioned makes a lot of sense from my own experience. I have always responded in a much kinder, more compassionate way to others that are going through difficult times or misfortune than I treat myself, I'm always rather cruel and harsh on myself. I need to learn to be nice...

  • I found this very uplifting. This emotive meditation, not only feels compassionate, but also empowering. I think that holding on to any kind of resentment or bad vibes is draining and isn't helpful to our personal wellbeing and growth. It felt good to practice sending the feelings of happiness to whom we already care for as well as to our-self and to whoever...

  • This is a very nice meditation, taking care of oneself and loving oneself is more important than is often realized. It is lovingkindness to ourselves that we seem to find the most difficult to remember. In order to care for others and be kind to others we must first know how to love and care for our-self. Sending out the lovingkindness, the good wishes and...

  • A very useful and informative exercise, to differentiate between empathy and compassion, for me, has been quite insightful. I suppose I really hadn't differentiated between them so much, and now I can clearly understand why I get so drained on occasions. I've always been quite emphatic towards peoples issues and problems, though of late definitely learnt not...

  • I'm really enjoying this course, I'm already practicing mindfulness with the help of the first course, but I'm finding so many ways to make my whole life more mindful though the advice and mentoring on this course. The technology reducing tips are very helpful to me. I write and promote blogs published on a website that I subsequently promote on different...

  • This is very thought provoking, I have my notifications turned off always, apart from texts and ringtone, messages. I shall always remind myself to time my screen time using social media in future and make a decision about my reason for scrolling. Such good advice. I've now made the conscious decision to shut down my phone well before bed and while watching a...

  • Well said, I shall be experimenting with these steps this week for sure. I hope this will help me to express myself better in my communication with others. Pausing before speaking has always been habit to me and to take a slow deep breath and calm myself before talking, when younger I had a terrible speech problem, a stammer. I was taught to slow down,...

  • I find this section really interesting and something I've always tried to do with every conversation, again because of my hearing impediment, I have always been an attentive listener out of habit. I watch body language and take notice of tone of voice etc to get a full picture of what is meant by the speaker and their true intent, just incase I miss heard...

  • A agree with everything Craig was saying in the video, it is something that I've always felt highly about, listening carefully to the conversation and not drifting into other thoughts or preparing our own words in readiness for speaking. I have always tried to be a good listener, maybe because I have a slight hearing problem requiring hearing aids, I try even...

  • A very good meditation exercise which I'll be using regularly myself. Focusing on actually listening, not just hearing sounds is important to me. I love to just sit in my back garden, be still and just listen to everything around me, buzzing of the bees on the cheery tree blossom, birds singing, a plane overhead maybe and do absolutely nothing else apart from...

  • Excellent video, I find that taking time first thing in the morning to meditate, to be still in my mind and body is a great way to start the day with a calm mind a less tense body and over all very positive beginning to a day. Also taking moments throughout my day to notice little details, bird song, something uplifting no matter how small, a flower, a bee or...

  • A very informative video, advice that makes a lot of sense.

  • This guided meditation was absolutely wonderful and I agree with @PaulaMawhinney that the train of thought analogy is so useful, I shall remember this as I meditate and even as I practice the comma exercise and if my mind wanders to thoughts I don't want to follow, I'll think about the train and be able to let it pass by. I have followed the YouTube channel in...

  • The Comma is especially useful throughout the day and I felt having the audio prompts guiding my comma exercise to be very helpful to me. I have downloaded the session to use regularly.

  • I have this course very informative and really made me think in more depth about what I'm trying to achieve with each post, each article I write or the desired outcomes in the long term. Thank you and to the fellow learners for their responses and input on the forum.

  • I found the template very useful and I will be using this approach again in the future to get my thoughts down first before making a decision about my online content including while writing up blogs. It was very interesting to see everyone's approach to the assignment too. Some great ideas.

  • This seems like a good plan going forward, certainly using a friendly tone. I would use all platforms of social media and if possible using previous upbeat feedback from parents who've used the products and services before, make it feel natural and helpful, not pushy. Ask questions about their specific sleep problems, or ask if they, the customer can offer...

I found the video very interesting and informative, so many things to consider that I hadn't thought about previously.

  • This advice makes so much sense to me. Each platform has it's own ways to interact with the audience and likewise different social media platforms relate better to different types of audience, so the content, good interaction and tone is very important to consider when creating for each different platform, while keeping a constant type of tone for your...

  • Content should be kept fresh and captivating if you're to receive the best results from your audience. People like trends, they like catchy, upbeat tone and it's important to catch their attention before they scroll on.

  • I feel most will only glance or skim read at most, which is why creating the right kind of content that gets the attention of the individual for the right reasons, something to inspire or interest and that keeps their attention long enough to get the desired results, a call to action or to get a brand or product noticed. or in my case get the reader...

  • This course has been quite an eye opener, even though I thought I understood good ways to post content on social media, I'm now seeing how to better my communication skills. I'm getting more interaction from content that I post personally online. I'm noticing how different tones matter and how audiences react differently to different styles of content and...

  • I enjoy content that is thought provoking and interesting and I love good storytelling, learning something new and images that stop me scrolling to take a closer look. I consider myself a storyteller, a blogger and amateur photographer who trys to express my views and give inspiration through my online blog and social media posts.

Getting good ROI is important, but so is the generation of good business reputation online along with recommendation from word of mouth and naturally induced brand awareness. Using a closer interaction with customers or potential customer/clients should also be measured and weighed.

  • YouTube I feel is great to demonstrate a product to an audience of choice if you specify the correct audience, but I wouldn't push the ad too long because the viewer gets annoyed, captivating content is key.
I have seen some clever Twitter ads that feel generic and natural, getting the customer involved with questions about a passionate subject matter and...

  • It depends mostly on your objectives, what your business is hoping to achieve from the campaign. these different platforms could potentially play a role in different factors, firstly getting your brand or product seen, get its value put there in the public eye. Facebook could help to communicate your values and core products discussed in the public eye....

  • Paid media can really help to get your brand or website/business noticed in the online world, it's a giant market place where your message can get lost. A media boost such as this can do wonders if you design your content well and push that towards the right audience. Pepsi and Coca cola brands use all platforms to their advantage and target customers very...

Using the above scenario, I'm working in marketing with Asda brand. I would like to take the target customer, Daisy who is a mother of 3 children below the age of 10. She's on a budget as most young families are, back to school is an extremely expensive time, even more so if all three children start a new school. My strategy would be email marketing...

  • I believe if a clothing business would do well to market clothing for a younger generation via a social media campaign that is interactive and a vibrant banner strategy that speaks to the young audience. An older generation clothing range may work more using targeted PPC and banner ads aimed at a stylish flattering look. Always think like your target...

  • So much to consider; how and when to post on social media, interaction with our customers so we may understand them more and cater to their needs and interests. Management of the varied platforms we use by analysing how our posts have been performing is another important factor. Using hashtags more effectively and not too many, targeting the audience we are...

  • Very useful information indeed, I read the article on Social media tools and found it fascinating. I'll look into their possibilities later.

  • So interesting, lot's to consider but of course this will differ according to the business or product being promoted too.

  • Planning posts, being responsive to replies and getting to know the target audience is important as is analysing views, likes and responsiveness to posts in order to make effective campaigns. being online through the day is something that is useful to be able to monitor the different channels. Making a plan of action regular is very useful too.

  • Management plans are definitely a priority, noting what's been working, making changes where needed. Taking an interest in how much interest there's been and the interaction rates that come from different styles of posts and from which target audience.

  • Choosing the correct content for my target audience, interesting and thought provoking.

  • One of the most effective campaigns I've noticed on Facebook recently has been a brand for quick and healthy meal plans, fresh food boxes with recipe cards. They use short snappy content, vibrant fresh food photography that looks healthy and tasty and it definitely stops me scrolling long enough to take notice.

  • Targeting again is definitely the main concern, deciding on the right time to post, using snappy, interesting or funny content that people will notice straight away and get interactive with. Hashtags need to be right for the content, central to your business ideals and of course get shared and be popular.

  • I feel if I'd been looking at the young professional types as my target audience, I'd probably think of using LinkedIn. Maybe for the college aged group a range of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram maybe. A 40+ women kind of audience, well Facebook certainly but I'd be inclined to also use Twitter then maybe Instagram. tricky

  • These 5 points are very important, working out the right strategy for your type of business and style need to be worked out. I feel too much presence could be a little over bearing so balance is required to get the right level of posts noticed online.

  • I'm interested in building a wider social media audience and learning how to promote business more effectively using the most suitable channels.

  • Very informative video, I'll be giving strategy much more thought in the future regarding which social media platforms are working the best for me and also thinking of ways to make posts more interactive. a thought cloud and notes will probably help in my thinking process.

  • I use different social media platforms for different reasons, catching up with family and friends and some of the time to promote the blogs that I write.

  • learning about strategy and and compatible platforms for different business types sounds very interesting.

  • Hi, I'm interested in learning more about social media management and finding out about using the right content and how to promote business more effectively on social media platforms.

  • Thank you very much, I do wish there were more privacy options on Twitter. It would be good to be able to control the content use of every Tweet without having to make the account private.

  • My personal view on privacy is that research data from social media should show anonymous figures, no identification as most other study data is shown. When I Tweet I'll only use hashtags if I want it to go web wide. Something fun or light hearted. But if on a more personal note my Tweet will be left without a hashtag to reduce the audience while also being...

  • I think maybe the hash tag does push past the privacy and then would make the Tweet public, or if you added a full stop before the @ sign of the intended recipient of the message like .@
Still learning, but getting more confidence with it since starting this course. Thanks for your reply, you've made me curious.

  • I always consider anything I post may become public so I always think carefully before posting.

  • Wow what a useful article. Thank you for sharing.

  • I think social media is a great place to add our opinion on subjects whether it's minor or major change. A good platform to be heard and stand up for rights...whether that's human rights animal rights or our political views. I'd rather personally speak up using social media and the use of specific hashtags than cause choas with a crowded street protest which...
