  • @MitchellC Thats a good point about the type of usage in both buildings.

  • We need to rethink building methodology.

  • This statement by Professor David made my day,

It also illustrates that it's ridiculous to heat hundreds of tonnes of building fabric to moderate the flow of heat between our skin and this fabric. Much of the time we simply need to add a layer of insulation to ourselves, not the walls. This insulation is called clothes, but it seems to be a forgotten...

  • These issues are not just in UK but they exist world wide.

  • Very interesting points to reduce energy waste in modern buildings.

  • LEED certification compliance in buildings must be mandatory all over the world.

  • Wow buildings are evil or perhaps builders and owners are evil. Its a strong statement. I do agree with the last part of the video where a campus building has same energy consumption as compare to the 60 years old nearby campus building. The performance and energy consumption is as fine as in the old building that is amazing.

  • Indeed Modern buildings are becoming or already have become complicated and advanced. They have high energy consumption. The operational cost is higher than traditional conventional buildings. MEP Building services which are the life and soul of modern buildings have become enormous and costly. LEED building certifications of buildings is another milestone not...

Hi every one, Im Tariq Javed from Pakistan and im a Building information Modeler MEP. I have been working in AEC industry for more than 6 years. I have keen interest in modern buildings and this is the reason why i have chosen this course. Thank you for this course.

  • Hi ,
Im looking forward to learn more about modern building design. Thank you

  • In middle east and south asia lack of expertise and awareness of BIM process is one of the obstacles causing proper implementation of BIM process.

  • 3 BIM Implementation Strategy Mistakes to Avoid article was an interesting read regarding mistakes in implementing bim.
I shall agree to those key points, especially the lack of coordination and collaboration which is very vital to BIM project delivery.

  • Doha Metro Qatar Rail BIM level 2 Projects i have worked on especially green line and Red line.
Location, Qatar, Doha . Type of Building, Public Buildings and infrastructure.

  • BIM is the future of AEC Industry. One way or another all shall have to come to the common grounds and terms.

  • Indeed several People in the AEC industry are reluctant to change their inter-company culture.
They are afraid of mistakes and complications.
They simply dont want to adopt the new ways.
They are conscious about the cost and investment in upgrading their entire IT system and software suite.
They need proper experienced and qualified manpower which also a...

  • I agree with the Mr Simon graham views and arguments in favor of BIM as well as with Nada Milivojevic and Hadeel Saadon.
In addition i would like to add my arguments in favor of BIM as follows,

    1) BIM can make your task and workflows smoother and easier.
    2) It has the ability to give you the right and precise information you requre.
    3) It can give you...

  • I am looking forward to discuss and learn barriers in BIM adoptation in countries where BIM adoption and implementation is currently a big challenge. I also would like to discuss about my experience and analysis of BIM pojects.

  • Thank you looking forward to join you in next week course.

  • Tariq Javed made a comment

It was a good revision for me since im a professional bim modeler mep and cad designer. I had the opportunity to discuss my point of views and listen to others as well. It gave me the chance to share my experience and conclusions over BIM process and technology. Thank you

  • In Pakistan BIM technology and implementation is at very low pace early stage. But i have mostly worked in my professional career in Saudia Arabia and Qatar.
I have worked over Doha Metro Qatar Rail project which was publicly procured government project and it was mandatory by both client Qatar Rail and government to deliver the project over BIM level2....

  • It is amazing that BIM adoption and implementation has been so rapidly in many regions and countries of the world.
But like it says several countries in Asia are lagging behind and reasons are obvious no doubt about it as mentioned above plus financial investment factors are also key players.
In Pakistan there is no government Mandate about BIM technology....

  • I agree to the points made. Indeed these are the obstacles in adopting and implementing BIM level 2 in many countries and these are the major reasons as follows.
A lack of trained experts which is not a huge threshold.
The unacceptability of the new technology is a major issue.
Lack of or poor standards on which to base the adoption which can be adopted by...

  • After watching this video i would like express my analysis over statements all 3 BIM professionals.
    1) Indeed it is an issue as every country has its own workflows and BIM understanding implementation and adoption in their own respective way. To come on the common grounds is very important and critical.
    2) UK BIM standards are a role model and good example...

  • @PaulineC Thank you very much.

  • @AwaisHameed Good its a surprise for me to know that.

  • I believe this statement is a clear picture of BIM adoption and implementation worldwide and not just only UK. Mr Richard Waterhouse
    CEO, NBS

We have been monitoring BIM adoption in
the UK for almost a decade and during this
period, the overall trends of BIM awareness
and adoption have grown from little more
than 10% in 2011 to around 70% in...

  • I believe this is one of the major advantages of BIM technology and BIM authoring tools as per the article TRADITIONAL METHODOLOGY VS. BIM METHODOLOGY.

The methods and processes that have traditionally been used for the elaboration of construction projects have always had several handicaps that are currently being solved with the evolution of the BIM...

  • @PaulineC
What is BIM? Official definition at Autodesk website.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and...

  • @PaulineC Thank you for your comment and i agree with your point. The only reason i say " some experts say" is due to avoid prolong reference and post. But i shall keep that in my mind next time. Thank you.

  • @PaulineC I agree with you but honestly speaking when i talked with some industry professionals their response was very straight that implementation of bim is costly for SME and those companies which dont have any specific requirements from their clients.

  • The Traditional methodology as compare to BIM methodology has become obsolete and outdated.

  • In Pakistan BIM is a new thing and still struggling to be adopted at industrial and governmental level. Only few number of private consultants are striving to adopt and implement BIM level 2 process.

  • I believe that depends upon the countries and regions.

  • BIM level 3 is a long way to go in middle east and south asia at the moment.

  • In addition to maturity wedge, I have witnessed insufficient awareness of BIM level 2 among BIM technologists while working with them. There are so many factors that needs to be considered by an organization before transforming themselves to BIM Level 2 consultants or contractors. The teams should be brought in confidence at same level. It requires...

  • Im currently at BIM Level 2 process and passionate to lead myself to BIM level 3 in near future.

  • @PaulineC Thank you for your comment Pauline. In our part of the world i believe PAS 1192-2 & 3 of BSI are quite famous especially in middle east.

  • The four pillars of BIM are essential and effective. But every country has its own building construction codes as well as regional BIM standards and guidelines. They differ from each other to some extent.
Since ISO 19650 part 1 and ISO 19650 part 2 release, these standards has been given priority as international BIM standards, the major part has been...

  • But it also consist of 2D and 3D information models.

  • Tariq Javed made a comment

BIM is building information modelling and management of assets as well as a smart model based process which gives you insight to help you design, build and manage buildings and infrastructure over its life cycle. It is way of working in a collaborative and coordinated environment. To work in a federated environment and having parametric structured information...

  • Thank you so much.

  • Indeed BIM is a costly process.

  • Hi ,
Im Tariq Javed from Pakistan and im a BIM modeler MEP and CAD Designer.
I have worked on various mega projects in gulf countries as BIM Modeler MEP and CAD Designer with several years of experience in AEC industry. Looking forward to meet you guys in the upcoming course.
BIM is the future of AEC industry to be honest. Only the brightest minds...

  • BIM is building information modelling and management as well. To define bim in easy way , BIM means each and every information about the building is inside the model but, how much relaible that information is another question.
Some experts say its all about the I in BIM which is information but that cant be true because there is a model as well as a building...

  • @LucianaCalverasVall Thank you luciana indeed it was.

  • @RichardRoberts Thank you Robert good luck you too.

  • Thank you very much for offering us this course . It consisted of very useful information about BIM technology. And i lam ooking forward to enroll in Msc Construction management with BIM in near future.

  • To get more sweet you need to add more sugar.

  • Good luck Richard

  • Tariq Javed made a comment

It was interesting to learn and read different case studies as well discussing with all the participants. It gave me a broader perspective of BIm and it adoption and how the industry is facing problem and trying to resolve these irregularities and conflicts with in BIM Implementation. The practical applications of BIM and its counter adversaries which seems...

  • Thank you very much Sophie for giving review about my assignment.

  • The BIM revolution started 17 years ago when Revit made its debut in the digital and construction markets, which then catalysed a change in how collaboration in the construction industry works. The past five years, we have seen the speed of app developments geared around the disruption of the construction sector. Multiple companies have been brewing up project...

  • Virtual reality or Virtual design construction allow you to make a building in two stages first in a virtual safe environment to see its clash free , sustainable design coordinated and error less and second on the site in reality. So all these factors add up properly to BIM level 2 where imagination becomes reality. And when the Project is delieverd and handed...

  • Indeed different digital formats and standards cause problem in this line of work. All the teams in supply chain needs to bring up together with the consultants and main contractors. We faced this problem initially in Doha metro Qatar Rail Project where we had teams from around the world so one can imagine without the proper managements the operations and...

  • Changes in companies and organizations primarily come from the Top management. Its their decision whether to adopt a change in technology and management of projects. In order to apply Bim implementation you need a plan. But before that you need to change the notion and mentality of old practices and conventional technology of BIM level 1 and move towards BIM...

  • There were quite few things which were not cleared to me but thanks to this course i have achieved a broader picture of BIM especially BIM level 2.

  • Still awaiting review of my assignment

  • Well ill appreciate your feedback on my assignment. Thank you

  • After reading through article i came to conclusion that half knowledge is dangerous knowledge. When you are doing something you need a plan of work that is called BIM execution plan that is the purpose of it. You need trained expert professionals to develop a n implementation and execution plan to define out what you need. Like it has been said in PAS 1192-2...

  • There is a saying a rider of two boats seldom reaches the destination. You have to decide at the beginning of the project that is called CAPEX stage of BIM process in Information delivery cycle of BSI PAS 1192-2 guidelines and specifications of building information modelling. These things shall be decided in pre tender and negotiations stage that how the...

  • I had the liberty of working on one of the Mega projects in which BIM was adopted and implemented.
It is Doha Metro Qatar Rail project. The type of building is public commercial and transportation, I experienced the importance of BIM implementation for the first time on that project while our company applying old practices and methods which were not...

  • I voted "yes" because i believe it is the time for change and evolution. And its worth it.

  • I dont believe in this statement compelling that people make mistakes when learning new tools. We learn everyday and we make mistakes its not a new thing. Secondly yes people are unwilling for various sorts of reasons. They are afraid or stubborn or they want to confined themselves to old practices and method they dont want to evolve and adapt new...

  • I agree with the arguments which has been given by the experts for BIM adoption and implementation. It saves a lot of cost occurred by conflicts and change orders. It has indeed reduced manpower to some extent as well as time and waste of materials which has effect on CAPEX of a Project. It gives you visualization which is unprecedented. Coordination and clash...

  • It was a great week of learning. Thank you to all

  • I saw a website its name is pakistan bim council www.pbimc.com you can browse and visit the website and see whether they are aware of BIM process or not or they just certainly mistaken about BIM as a software application tool Like Autodesk Revit and Navisworks etc. There is so much misconception in our region southasia and middleeast.

  • At the moment to my observation there is no BIM standard yet although there are guidelines and specifications of bim or as per country BIM standards but not like international reknowned. There will be one at some point called the ISO 19650-1 and 19650-2 but these have yet to be released. Once these are released there will also be another couple of issues when...

  • Tariq Javed made a comment

First of all i want to thank you future learn and coventry university for offering us this course. This dynamic and amazing course has cleared some of my confusions about the process. It was good to study the statistics around the world the way they are adopting and implementing BIM technology. And i know its importance more than ever and its need to be...

  • Future is bright but hard nothing is easy . Every thing takes its time. Some are fast learners some are slow or lazy. Some are reluctant and defiant or what you can say resistant to every thing. Its a human nature after all industries are run by people.

  • There are many BIM related projects like Doha Metro Qatar Rail is a bim project. But so far there were lots of complications while implementing it because many supply chain companies small medium enterprises and subcontractors are not aware of this process and technology in that country. So coordination and communication has been a challenge among them in...

  • whether BIM is used in your region BIM in Pakistan has not yet been implemented on industrial scale. Many of the companies are not aware of it nor practicing it except couple of companies which are to my knowledge not implementing it properly as it should be as per international bim standards. There is huge gap and lagging behind. Reasons are obvious lack of...

  • Both documents provide challenges in face of BIM adoption and implementation throughout the world but it is under progress and we shall see better outcomes in coming years.

  • Qatari Government has also mandated BIM on major Public Projects. One of the examples is Doha Metro Qatar Rail Project.

  • agreed

  • I totally agree with this statement that the main obstacles to the development of BIM in middle east and south asia is identical to African region
    a lack of trained experts
    unacceptability of the new technology
lack of standards or poor standards on which to base the adoption
    high implementation costs.

  • Indeed this is a major problem. People in this region needs a lot of work and effort for educating about BIM and its standards and specifications

  • Every country has its own standards and i believe we should respect them and not to implement or encourage forcibly to implement other countries laws and standards. Sure BIM professionals can refer and take guidance from them like BSI Pas 1192-2 , PAS 1192-3 and NBIMS , RIBA and RICS BIM etc.

  • I understand you feelings. we are on the same boat over here.

  • Your country is not the only one which is lacking adoption and lying behind. There are many countries which are still not implementing and adopting BIM Level 2.

  • BIM methodology defeats traditional methodology and also ease the workflows and design phases of projects.

  • I believe one of the biggest challenge right now is to aware people about BIM level 2. And we shall focus on describing them that BIM is a process not a Software like many people still believe. Proper training , lectures are required at this stage at every under development company and organization.etc

  • As far as BIM Level 0 , 1 & 2 they are fairly obvious and clarified in the AEC industy and specially to BIM Consultants who are practicing it but there are some gaps and lack-age of understanding still among them. Especially when im talking about Middle east and south asia there is still lots of inadequate information and insufficient awareness among...

  • Middle east is still a long way to go to implement BIM at full potential. It still requires time to for AEC industry professionals to comprehend BIM. But it is in the transitional phase.

  • Indeed it is a expensive and cost effective process or game as you say.

  • Tariq Javed made a comment

In my understanding BIM is an intelligent model based process which gives you INSIGHT to help you plan , design , visualize build and construct buildings and infrastructures and maintain buildings over its life cycle. Among the other characteristics of BIM is that it is collaborative way of working. To work in more federated environment, Collaborative and...

  • I believe BIM level 2 has advantage of security measures and precautions in construction project as well along many other coordination and collaboration benefits.

  • Hi Im Tariq Javed from Pakistan im BIM Modeler MEP & Coordinator previously MEP CAD Draftsman with past work experience on several mega Gulf projects. I have been working in AEC industry for 6 years but for last two years i have become a BIM technologist the reason is my hands on experience on Doha Metro Qatar Rail Project which offered me a chance of live...

  • BIM can be described in various ways. I heard my teacher back in college a BIM model means each and every information is available in the model. Some say BIM is all about the " I " meaning information but that is not correct because there is a building and there virtual model. The Building information modelling is a complex organized process which is based on...
