  • The conflict is Hunting for elephants in Uganda.
the areas gazetted as forests and National Parks, these have animals like elephants which can pose as a danger to the surrounding environment, to the government you are not allowed to kill elephants since they are few and for tourism yet they destroy vegetation and can act as a threat to human life.

  • @BikramjitC i think email advertising is great

  • Wow its great to learn about email marketing, i have constantly received emails but had no idea what it meant.

  • last week was beautiful I am sure this new topic is good enough.

  • Banner adverts sound better, thou PPC is a good see people see what they want to see, i would say both are pretty amazing.

  • i would love digital compared to traditional methods of Marketing.

  • looking forward to a beautiful week

  • the Tuna Dolphin case, a country can not pose restrictions on another because i consider that over stepping boundaries since each nation should have their own regulation, even when the US wanted to put a preservation on the dolphins, i feel that they didn't deserve to place a burn on Mexico and their intermediaries, they should however offer to teach and...

  • in my opinion both two scenarios hold both truth to some extent, The first yes, over exploitation is already happens where individuals have less land, they tend to over utilize all the necessary and available resources, however the population increase can not stop regardless of the different measures put in place.
scenario 2, its true individuals get to learn...

  • a scenario where in Uganda a water source can be accessed via a private owners property, land can easily be faced out to deny access because the commons tend to trespass to a shorter route to the water point, in turn leads to destroying of plantations and crops.

    Advice

the government or state should acquire access from those individuals to avoid conflict...

  • What is MOOC?

  • Hey, wow I have enjoyed this course, no doubt this is one of the courses that has opened my eyes to workplace safety. Thank your for your wisdom and Knowledge. I appreciate your time and help.

  • The preventive measures is
    1) having a strong support and not stepping on a slippery ground.
    2) stop working in the rain.
    3) wearing PPE

  • Risks involved
    1) biological hazardous
These include Bacteria and viruses that can be available in the soil or clay being used, if the workers don't have PPE they are likely to have these bacteria have contact with them through the skin.
    2) Noise.
The above process involves moving objects which create noise, hence a risk assessment should be carried out to...

  • Tricky situation but,
    1) I would explain to her the different chemical hazardous that are associated with her kind of work and their effects.
    i.e
    a)Reprotoxic substances
    b) Carcinogen
    c) Mutagen
    d) Terategen
I would advise her to speak to her supervisor and they shift her to a less hazardous area.

  • Indeed many people here in Uganda are under informal employment, and with many seeking for employment, declaring you are pregnant in some jobs is risking your job, this is mainly the so called "investors" in particular.

  • If a pregnant woman's got an abortion during their working period even after a risk assessment has been done, is it considered an occupational disease or work related?

  • Knowing that almost all this work is not very safe for the mother and the child, what would you advise a pregnant woman who works in a work area where occupational health is not their area of interest?

  • Ready for week 6.

  • I think she should talk to the colleague that she doesn't feel comfortable about his comments and if he continues, she will report him. She should record the conversation as a witness, she can share with another trusted person.
She can later talk to the employer

  • It's hard in our countries to even report harassment because 1) some jobs are actual and there is no contract signed in the first place and you can be fired immediately if reported.
    2) there is no clear definition of what is considered harassment.

  • Bringing a third party seems like a good solution yet doesn't reflect the qualities of a good leader but I would suggest that the leader
    1) talks to the 2 parties, that it's very unpleasant for 2 old men to fight for a position in a workplace.
    2) he should also give them the clear guidance on how one can qualify for the position so that they are all...

  • Wow I, doubt employees even know they have the right to strike or even lockout.

  • I think this is a good topic and very interesting, sometimes these are like dreams yet some work environments actually have these in mind

  • Wow, thank u for the insight coz in most workplaces, u are replaced immediately if such a scenario happened. This course is helpful coz I intend to be a better employer/manager

  • When the workers are listened to, and they are give a voice to air their views.
When at work people are treated with dignity and not as dockeys.

  • I think health wise machines are very important and have few monitor and operate the machines. It's time saving and reduces occupational Risks.

No perfect chair, interesting. During classes that's high school and college plus undergraduate, I was told that there is a better reading posture, were u sit upright no regular movements, how true is this?

  • In Uganda, indeed work related skin disease is not widely known,
However much exposure is due to exposure to paints, washing clothes, industrial work.

The employers should provide information and training on the work related skin diseases.
    Use of PPE.

  • Not yet, I am from Uganda, and we use asbestos, in roofing materials mainly. It's a shock that actually the so called investors import them and use them in Uganda coz they are durable, the cement too contains asbestos.

  • Ok, this looks very interesting

  • Automation is like substitution, so it's the way to go, it reduces the exposure levels.

  • So this PEF meter, can it be able to be used by more than one person?

  • Wow, it has been such a great week, ready for week 4

  • In Uganda, not so safr either but they use pulleys, which is time saving but also reduces the risk. Some still use Ladders where they climb all the way to the top.

  • Does too much light have health impacts?

  • First time to hear about these effects being regulated, can't wait to know more

  • I think the labor inspector should be responsible to follow up coz they have comparison on the different work environments

  • Noise is protection is very important at any work place and should not be ignored as it creates hearing disorders.
    1) employers should invest on training it's employees on the advantages of using PPEs,thats the hearing plugs. I appreciate their efforts to provide the rest but noise shouldn't be ignored.
    2) information should be provided on the dangers for...

  • Miracle Elizabeth made a comment

This is great information, challenge is that some of us use blenders which have vibrations, need to find anti-vibration handles if they exist

  • Training are key for prevention of these kinds of diseases, health inspectors should also be employed to ensure that PPEs are used.

  • 400 workers and also the 15 who do the spraying

  • 1) In halation, and through the hands
    2) should have respiratory system, and gloves should be used while handling the gold plus in separation of the ore.

  • In Uganda, we have a workers compensation act which gives guidelines on how compensation is to made, in assistance with Administrator General. The employer is required to meet all the compensations however, I don't think it always done since there is a lot of informal employment in Uganda.

  • Electric wires, capable of being electrized.
    B) an alternative way monitoring without direct contact with the bare wires, or provide PPEs

  • In places where there are no labor inspector I think the work place should have HSE personals who ensure that the workers work in am environment conducive enough for them to deliver without damages.

  • I am Miracle Elizabeth from Uganda, a valuation surveyor by profession. Interested in occupational health.

  • wow, great insight. a system approach is a great deal for any project manager. they don't have to necessarily be experienced in all the fields, but have to have a idea of how it works, hence able to negotiate between the different parties.

  • In my kind of Job, Communication is very key, ethics and CPD are mandatory. the Gaps i feel are the negotiating since the milestones are laid and u just have to fulfill them that's it.
personal i feel i need to develop them all since i aspire to be a PM soon.

  • 1) This has been a mind opening course.
    2) none of it.
    3) this has been an interesting study and i must confess i expected a calculation kind of study but i appreciate the different school of thoughts and i have come to appreciate the different factors that make an ecosystem such a valuable entity.

  • restrictions should be put for deforesting or cutting down a tree, one should have to get a license to cut down a tree.
a person should be encouraged to plant as many trees as possible.
REDD+ However is doing a great job.

  • i think REDD is doing a great work. people should also put into practice these aspects and not waiting for outside help. if each year at-least a person plants 10 trees, it helps in conserving the environment.

  • sometimes the things that seem not to have a price attached can be thought to be priceless yet the reason that it wasn't given price is because its more precious, that one would pay his life for it. for example oxygen, our Lord Jesus is the best example.

  • valuing nature is important however what best comparable data can we find?

  • Forests tend to be lower in my point of view since i believe trees are important in our supply of the air we breathe. i am more interested in the methodology thou.

  • Miracle Elizabeth made a comment

I come from Uganda, I would look at the forest near my district, they have threaten to actually remove it often times and replace it with a sugar plantation, however the locals often strike to save the forest, it helps in recreation since it harbors quite a number of birds, animals and also the weather near there is so cool, so i guess carbon-oxide is retained...

  • thank you for such useful information

  • slum redevelopment Uganda, 2 floors of shopping recreational area follows, housing 240 units of 2 bedrooms in the 12floors, with ample parking space, a water collecting area since its in a low lying area, the solar energy for lighting.

  • great

  • i am excited to learn

  • Hey, I am Liz from Uganda, I want to know how to Value Ecosystems, I am excited to be here already.

  • my thoughts are that I see in the next 50 years' houses being used for transportation, where one's house can change location. in my country we have moving islands so the building might start moving.

  • Iin Uganda we have watotoo, it helps mostly disadvantaged people say orphans, widows and gives housing to them.

  • Thank you.

  • 2 projects that failed badly wer due to
    1) lack of proper management
    2) lack of detailed understanding of the scope.
    3) lack of proper funding since most of these government projects u r paid when the work is done.
    4) under staffing. Few individuals doing a lot.

  • Many time the time factor may ignore the quality factor

  • Most projects fail because of the budget constraints, undefined scope, unqualified personel

  • Wow I am undertaking as pipeline project,

  • Miracle Liz

  • Looking forward to complete in time

  • Ready for week 2

  • The project wasnt successful in terms of scope time and budget.
The project was under estimated, they didn't listen to all the stakeholders that were involved in the project.

  • The project was unsuccessful interms of Time and budget. The scope failed and they hard to adjust at some point.

  • wow, amazing the difference between projects and on-going operations. i get it

  • I am called Miracle Liz Phaneroo looking forward to enjoy this course. lets do it

  • I am so interested in real estate. I am a valuer/ appraiser in Uganda. So I hope to renew my mind and also get exposed more.

  • Property is the land and it's attachments.

  • Me too, that volunteers are not given instructions, but guidelines

  • This should be the way to go.

  • Thank u , wow, let's do this, I am ready

  • I learnt the importance of having a kick off meeting, making issue log, how to prepare meetings, how to monitor the project progress. Thank u looking forward to finish this course in time. It's has been helpful

  • Issue log is important because u dont have to go through the same issues over and over.

  • Cancelling the project. Wow, looks a hard choice more so when u have already invested quite alot of time, resources. Its sad

  • "Walking the project" helps you as a PM indentify areas were more resources are needed in terms of human, equipment and materials.
It also helps in engaging the team so that challenges are well addressed. It also gives a PM a feel of the project.

  • identifying the strength in people is key. the team interaction is a great idea

  • Week one was great. Expectant for 2 already

  • This makes it easier, it just simplifys the whole project

  • Planning eliminates unnecessary delays and helps get to the point without too much stress. Glad I am learning that

  • MoScow is a great tool becausei it helps you eliminate unnecessary things.

  • I am appreciating the role of a project manager and i now know that for every event, when the idea is convinced, plans are laid out, planning made, then project execution, closure which involves reporting and assessment. The project has to be a success.

  • I think it's important for him to know how he can best handle another project since it's an evaluation process also.

  • Think understanding what exactly is needed in your project by looking at the manpower, the different players, different tasks, the risks involved gives you a better idea on how the project .

  • Wow, ok think this works. Uncertainty, complexity and pace.

  • Project time management process.
    1.plan schedule management
    2.define activities
    3.sequence activities
    4.estimate activity resources
    5 Estimate activity duration
    6..develop schedule
    7.control schedule

The importance of schedule management plan helps to plan who u manage the schedule, how is it's revised and how often u review it.
