I think looking to other African countries that have successfully implemented waste management systems and learning from them would be a first step. Of course we may need to adapt to suit our particular needs.

That may be true reality is that for most of informal settlements already exist a lot and something needs to be done about them. I think it's very good idea to recognise inhabitants as stakeholders and engage them in planning and decision-making.
-
Khadijatu Mansaray made a comment
By engaging with stakeholders and giving everybody a voice.

TheColoniser was very good at using divide and rule techniques. Which left the legacy of people distrusting each other over years. When in fact all they were really interested in was protecting their interests and Keeping the Colonised nations subdued to British power.

Very impressive. Consultations and collaboration usually yields practical results. The community meet more initiatives like that and more in investments. Youths are hungry what opportunities and I ready to make the most out of them.
-
As well as involving people living in the community. Technical expertise is also needed. Methods that have proven to work in a similar environments must be adapted and applied. Therefore consultations is necessary. This allows the community to state their needs, contribute and suggest Solutions to the problem and allowing the experts to deliver something that...
-
Top-down approaches to development rarely works. The most effective way is that involve people. Collaboration is key. Answers answers come from The people. Ultimately the solutions they come up with Will be the best.

Recognising informal settlements is not enough. They should be given Basic amenities and build them up to small villages or towns.

Khadijatu Mansaray made a comment
Informal settlements are usually slums. Living conditions are poor an full of crime.

Thanks for the video. It was nostalgic to drive-through Freetown. Although the transport form didn't exist when I lived there. I guess it's a form of Community is evolving because I understand the kekes can sometimes be faster and more flexible they can get to places that regular taxis don't..

Gender and disability are most commonly used to discriminate. The differences are not natural but as social constructs that maintains the status quo.

The concept of spatial injustice is new to me and I find it very interesting. It also resonates with me and is something that must be addressed when planning cities so we have social justice across-the-board for everyone.
