Location I come from Uganda

Activity

  • Well, what I noticed is that so may people are still having problems with presentation

  • I just kind of fail to hummer the point home. What really matters most during the presentation. What should I lay emphasis on. What should I ignore etc

  • I am a medical doctor and I love teaching students in the wards and sometimes in a small class as tutorials. Therefore, presenting is key to me both digital and face to face

  • Presentation has been my problem and this course couldn’t come at the right time. I am eagerly waiting to delve into this without wasting time

  • I ham David from Malawi and am interested in this course as am planning to start a business which I still haven’t decided concretely on. I need to learn the basic steps on starting a business as stated in the course topic and I wish to complete the whole series

  • Hi all, am Kitara David, a medical Doctor from Uganda. This course suits me in that i have been having some challenges in having a good digital presence. I would like to be found by friends, corporate organization as well as potential employers. I am also interested in Multi level network marketing and this requires skills in have a good online presence.

  • I believe the way one presents his or herself online matters so much. This seems to have been ignored before or many people might not care as stated above. Therefore, knowing how to present ones presence in a way that attract potential employers of friends is critical. That has not been my priority

  • I definitely do not have a serious presence online and yet its becoming very important in this digitalized world that communication and networking is all about a good online presence.

  • Name: XL
    Age: 23yrs
Motivation: She believes that our hospital is the best place she can get health care services from with a number of experienced physicians and just closed to her apartment
Methods and frequency of purchases: Not very regular but rather seasonal as during the rainny season she brings her children for treatment for malaria. Herself like...

  • Yes its very hard at times as customers' expectations, needs and wants may vary, however, i feel that there is a need to come up with a USP that tends to address most of the average expectations.

  • Wllcome dacosta, i as well planing to start an MBA course and feel like this could be some kind of a stepping stone.

  • Well we all have different taste and that is a reflection of our community. Some people want to keep up with the trends others look at the quality of the products, the brand names that have stood the test of times. So many customers have different needs expectations and wants. The big question is how can a business get it all right?

  • Very interesting. This applies to almost all areas of social network. It’s emphasis on knowing the dynamics of customer needs and tailoring your services to match that.

  • I David Kitara, I want to venture in a new skills of network marketing that involves creating a clientele base and keeping a closed contact with them. Talking about my product in a way that makes them buy. I believe this is the right course for me and looking forward to enjoy the weeks

  • I used to supervise the junior house officers posted to do their internship in our hospital. As a generalist, i would swap between different wards. What i noticed was that the mortality in Paediatric ward over the years would fluctuate with peaks noted in the months when the new group on interns would switch to rotate in the that ward. We also noted that there...

  • Its a great presentation. Well, to succeed in QI, there need to change the mind set that 'its difficult' to make a change in the way we do things. And that quality improvement does not always require very huge amount of financial resources, but rather, the key ingredients in QI has always been, in my experience, commitment.

  • Health care system is a complex system with multiple pillars that support the whole. Changes in one aspect usually lead to changes in others as well. Therefore, before we think of improvement in, for instance one department, we need to critically look at effect or the impact of the change in other areas of the system 'system thinking' to ensure the the system...

  • I work as a Maternal Child Health Specialist in one of the hospitals in Malawi. I believe quality improvement approaches will change the way we are doing things now. More, specifically, i would like to look at it from the system perspective so that the improvement can be holistic as opposed to just changing some aspect of care delivery. of course, it will be...

  • Very exciting, one can pick interest in some area and goes on to become a leader in whatever field that interested him or her. I am just starting the course and hope to enjoy it along the way.

  • David Kitara made a comment

    A very well constituted team.

  • David Kitara made a comment

A very good and elaborate introduction that has given me a good glimpse at the course

  • David Kitara made a comment

This is an interesting course that cut across all the disciplines. Sustainability is the in things nowadays as resources are getting scarce and we would love to have some continuity of care or any other intervention that created an impact in lives of our patients. Being part of this forum is motivating to me as I expect to learn and unlearn lots of stuff...

  • Well, this seems to be indeed the gold standard of conducting a clinical research. However, I still have that feeling that chance alone might not completely control bias but rather reduce it's effect on the final outcome

  • Clinical trials is good but has some limitations as well. It is an experimental study which as to be conducted under a controlled conditions. This may be different from what happens in real life to which it has to be generalizable and finding may not reflect exactly what is happening on the ground

  • I share the same concern with you. It's seems companies are flounting the research ethics and tend to potrey thir products as being exceeding superior than other treatment modalities.bHow can we ensure that research which for all intention meant to improve the patients condition degenerating to that level?

  • That was a brilliant initiative that led to clinical trials in our time. I think the work of Darwin gave some insight on clinical research especially the rigorous observation of certain traits in a number of species is akin to what takes place during clinical research

  • It's getting to the gist of it and becoming more and more interesting

  • The course is quiet interesting so far. I am looking forward to the next steps

  • A cycle of discovery in clinical research means that the research process seems to move in a cycle and during the cycles, discoveries are made. Begins with an observation and asking questions about the status quo. The a study is designed that answer the question. The findings will lead to a conclusion that my prove us right or wrong. In either case, this may...

  • Yes impacts heavily on the economy in that, investment in healthcare is raising and spending 10% of the GDP just serves to underline this importance. To improve on the efficient and equitable use of the available resources for healthcare, there is need to invest in interventions that are effective with good outcomes. These are usually evedence base high impact...

  • My approach to this question would be to compare and contrast the two options, that is studying abroad and in one's country. If I think the merits of studying outside outweighs the demerits, then I will conclude by drawing a strong conclusion based on that.

  • Through this very comprehensive feedback, I am now able to understand what is expected of a candidate in such tests. With more examples and trials, i will gain more skills and competence to pass IELTS

  • From the above graphics, there was a general increase in the number of female being admitted for part time as well as full time studies from 1970/71 to 1990/91. However, there was almost thrice as many female admissions for part time education as for full time over the same period.
Meanwhile, for the male category, the admission pattern for full time...

  • In both male and female categories, there were more admissions for part time studies as compared to full time.

  • There is need to use time more efficiently. Just don’t waste time and planing your time well ahead of time may prove so beneficial

  • I really appreciate the tips, I was not taking time to analyze the data and I can now see that that was the problem

  • The time allocation is a challenge for me and that seems to cut across all other aspects of IELTS.
I can only improve by getting a few tips on how to understand and appreciate the concept of writing test; what are the expectations and interest in a written test that will determine the scores. So, this nitty-gritty is so important.
    Well, honestly I don’t...

  • I like the flexibility with the options. I can virtually get a bit of everything with some two or three different groups. Truly democratic!

  • What is the requirements to pass each steps: writing, listening, speaking etc; I understand each has a min and max required scores

  • I am David, I one time took the academic IELTS and just fell short to clock the requirements for that particular university. I did not practice and took it for granted that I knew English! I even realized that there were some people taking a “ trial” on that day. So I am here to improve on the challenge I faced especially reading which I felt the passages were...

  • I am really looking forward to this course as I am planing to take my test soon. It’s a good opportunity to learn the rules of the game!

  • In my country, the economy is agricultural driven and most of the inputs are through hard manual labor. This requires first and foremost a good health.Income from agriculture contributes to more than half of the households incomes. These are individuals who contribute to the tax base of the nation. So, as we had appreciated that research improves the quality...

  • Conducting a good clinical research depends so much on the research design is followed with fidelity. This requires active participation of all the team members as a collaborative.

  • Indeed clients/patients are such a wonderful participants often taken for granted without whose contributions the research objectives wouldn’t be achieved.

  • Clinical research is the core of evidence based medicine. As a Doctor, I would like to treat my patients using the most effective treatment modalities and have a better outcome. Therefore, clinical research enables us to appreciate what works better

  • It’s amazing how we can, I would say by default’ become participants in a research by the mere fact that we are consumers of the end results. We do not need to sign that consent form! That implies that clinical research has to be executed with utmost fidelity, otherwise...

  • Looking into the future, clinical research is key to the wellbeing and survival of human race and other beings. We are living in a constantly changing environments and are rightly affected by it either directly or indirectly. Emergence of new diseases and conditions as well as the changing epidemiology of the existing conditions will continue to pose a...

  • It’s interesting to learn that, actually in remote parts of third world countries many people are still in that era where medical care is still based on folklore and speculation or outright superstition! They somehow didn’t move on because of poor access to modern evidence based and research driven medicine. Medicine men and women claiming to have those...

  • To me, clinical research really means, finding suitable answers to the unknown and communicating that answer to an appropriate forums. Through careful observation, we are able to challenge the status quo and look for better alternatives with greater impact to the lives of patients

  • What I can say is that the pandemic has triggered as innovativeness and a sense of self reliance. The hospital production units has started making some of the essentials like hand sanitizers and face shields locally. I feel this should be supported and encouraged even post COVID

  • There are so many hospital that have not focused attention on environmental disinfection and this could jeopardize the whole infection prevention measures

  • It’s not very easy to understand the meaning of 1000 part per mole. This may be unpacked using a simple formular

  • Other half hospital settings will need modifications to conform to the principles of the isolation room

  • It said that face masks like N95 can be reusable, how feasible that could be? Given the costs and the availability, it would be a relief to the low resource settings.

  • I am just surprised that I was not using the 9 steps for cleaning my hand using alcohol hand rub. I normally squeeze it on my palm and rub the palm and rarely the back!. I will download and paste it at hand washing points in my institution

  • The unknowns about COVID19 makes prevention a challenge. For a disease to be effectively controlled, it epidemiology should be thoroughly understood.

  • Are there people who have been from other category one countries??.

  • The only challenge is for the as symptomatic cases that one may not take seriously as a potential transmission source. It makes it so difficult to implement some of these principles

  • Well it would favor a certain class of people and leave the less previllage one at a disadvantage. And yet such groups are the one without easy access to the GP. So it would have been something cool to take up if it were not because of those short comings and contrary to the principle of the universal health care coverage

  • We had a challenge on how to coordinate the patient flow and how to handle the suspected cases. We agreed that we erect a tent just closed to the gate for screening and a cough clinic that will treat those with mild cough and send them back home. And to continue monitoring them from home. There was a challenge on handling emergencies which we overlooked to say...

  • Being proactive and effective communication can play an important role in preventing the spread of the disease

  • The whole guideline has to be implemented in context as different countries will have to adapt the WHO guideline to their settings. Individual home quarantine may not be applicable to setting where people share one room.lack of opportunities for on phone consultation and so much more in terms of thee siting gaps in the health care system

  • Very true, the hospital has now become a possible risk for contracting COVID, so prevention of unnecessary consultation is really key

  • When a patient is able to consult a physician physically, it would be very easy to reassure him or her. Using othe technology like. Zoom could help

  • Given the fact that old age per se is a risk factor and that hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases are also of some risks. But if you look at it closely, cardiovascular conditions are more common with old age. So, are they contributing independently to this risk? Is there a study done among say hypertensive patients with covid 19 stratified by age?

  • Most of the poorly resourceful countries are screening and testing very few people with a very low yield. The inability to pick up those positives cases in the community means that there is community transmission at a certain level that would later on results into an exponential increase in the number of critical cases requiring care. This can easily overwhelm...

  • It would be interesting to know how long the virus survive in water. Many countries have had water contamination with other organisms such as typhoid and could that be a possibility in CORONA virus. If it’s true that would be catastrophic

  • It looks like transmission through aerosols is gaining ground according to the lates WHO report. If that is the case, how best can the prevention strategies be reviewed in such a way that lessen the transmission through that route

  • Looking at the JH website, the number of cases are really increasing exponentially. Indeed there is need to equip frontline healthcare workers with knowledge and skills to handle the cases of COVID 19

  • Good to be interacting with the guys who have got a vast experience from multidisciplinary background. I am excited

  • Interesting

  • This is indeed a real challenge. It’s just so important that the implementation of some of these strategies should be context specific

  • Physical distancing as a measure to control the spread of disease is something thatPeople have to come to terms with. It’s not really taking root in my community as people in places like market are not practicing it well. There are those who would love to experience the epidemic before they can practice the physical distancing. This is made worst with...

  • All those measures sound somewhat effective if implemented serious seriously and followed up closely

  • I agree with h you, in Africa, there are major killer diseases that have caused very high mortalities. If this rate was to be replicated globally, it would be akin to a pandemic. The only difference is that they are often not contagious and hence sheer no lockdown. Therefore, having gone through all these, the priorities in their settings would be for a...

  • The singer pore response could be adapted by other countries. It seems to be more robust and quite effective. But as indicated, their strength relies on strong political will and a population that is responsive and willing to take care of their own health. Small country with a manageable entry points

  • I think the response in China was quite effective however we cannot a avoid the economic repercussions as it something inevitable

  • The mental health sequels of the pandemic has been overlooked right from the beginning as such no preparedness has be done for it we can now appreciate that it’s becoming a real issue that needs to be tackled as soon as possible otherwise it is threatening to reverse any gain made on the case management of corona

  • The syndromic screening at airports can only be effective if the incubation period of the disease is shorter may be hours following the infection. It can also be strengthened by a follow up quarantine if the incubation period happens to be prolonged

  • In Uganda, traveler from high risk countries (grade one category) were screened and those who turn out negative are quarantined in designated hotels for 14 days. Could this approach improve the detection of cases among the traveling infectious cases.

  • Given the fact that infectivity sometimes begins earlier than the symptoms, what is the effectiveness of symptoms based screening

  • Well, warming up for the next step

  • Infectious disease keep on changing in terms of its epidemiology as it interacts with a particular environment or setting meanwhile a natural disasters such as hurricane may not change much and the grading is appropriate.

  • Risk communication is very crucial if done appropriately This dimistfies the condition and allows the community to get the real information. What is now happening in some countries is that health workers are regarded as those spreading the diseases. Some of them have been thrown out of rentals and refused boarding a public transport. These all boils down to...

  • So the declarations of PHEIC depends so much on the epidemiological information arising from the country with the disease. In a situation where countries do not declare certain information may adversely delay PHEIC declarations by WHO. So how an we make sure that this does not happen

  • I. An now appreciate that socials distancing can effectively reduce the spread of the pandemic as it affect other the R0 and secondary attack rate

  • There has to be a balance in the two aspects of the test, that is sensitivity and specificity...the more sensitive a test is the less specific it is. This will now depend on the implication of a false positive or a false negative test result. As for COVID; I rather have more false positives than false negatives meaning that the there is need to increase the...

  • So technical to say but the least. My hope is that a simpler equipment for point of care diagnostics could be made. I was also told that geneXpert if upgraded could help in the diagnosis. I don’t know how true that could be

  • My thinking is that surveillance has been lagging behind. The virus had spread in so many countries unidentified

  • Countries with iron fist mode of governments showed significant progress, but those who wanted to remain”democratic “ with so much flexibility are likely to register more mortalities

  • This is the right course for me. I have specialized in obstetrics and gynecology but, but with this pandemic, I find myself switching to general practice and I need to keep on refreshing my knowledge on the basics of infectious disease

  • Well, Sub Shaharan Africa has the highest burden of HIV infection with other associated commodities. This will be the most vulnerable population with a very high mortality rates. There must be a proactive measure to protect this population if we are to reduce the death rates in Africa. This is unfortunately, compounded by the already high vulnerability of...

  • Well, to me this a reality check by COVID-19 on the governance of countries, especially, Africa. Its not that we totally lack resources, the problem is allocative efficiency, with health system investment not being taken as a priority. How many ventilators would have been bought if the money used for buying one of the fighter jets or, better still, a...

  • Its a very good and comprehensive information about corona viruses.
    Thanks

  • I am Dr David Kitara, from Uganda which is one of the countries in the sub sharan Africa with Poor MNCH indicators. My country failed to meet the MDG and now the SDG with 2030 first approaching. I believe that changing the trend in MNCH indicators starts at the level of an individual health care worker through absolute commitment and learning to practice...

  • Things keep on changing in this dynamic world. Keeping with the pace of change and innovation in the area of Maternal Child and New born health is a must for the front line health care workers like me. I am excited to learn something new!

  • Health care financing and the best modality to effect it has indeed been so elusive. It’s the major obstacle to the achievement of the universal health care coverage as it has a direct effect on equity. Unless countries get the most appropriate modalities for heath care financing, the universal health care coverage will always remain a myth. I will be very ...

  • In Uganda, politicians have enormous influence on any policy in the country including health policy. The allocation of resources for health is determined at the national planning levels in the national budget which is passed by the legislatures who are the members of parliament. More importantly, the ruling party agenda or manifesto has to be reflected in the...

  • Yes there are differences in the way health system is structured at District levels in many countries more especially the component of the community level of health system. It will be of interest to share and learn from my peers this week

  • This is the course I was really looking for that will impact on my management skills in this poor resource setting
