  • 3.333333333 for me
It is quite an interesting quiz...but only if you can be honest with yourself then only it can help you in this course.

  • Week 1 teaches me that it is very important to understand other cultures before having our own assumptions.

  • Hi,
Can someone send me Intercultural Knowledge and Competence VALUE Rubric pdf file.. I am not able to download it.

  • The video is very interesting.
Our own assumptions can be of no use in the culture which is completely different where we are living.
It is very important to develop intercultural competence to not only survive but also to live happily in the place where you are by respecting the local traditions, customs and rules.

If I would have been in place of mahle, I too would have felt threatened. I would have shared the incident with my colleagues and immediate boss and took help from them. I would have definitely communicated to my office colleagues and my neighbour or landlord to talk to the person managing fruit stand to understand the issue.

  • My goal is to create a safe space for the children.
I believe my sphere of control is my own skills and accuracy with which I can go and convey the message to the stakeholders who fall is sphere of influence and are directly related to children in the community such as teachers, parents, authorities, hospital authorities etc.
My sphere of concern is the laws...

  • According to the video, "social worker" hasn't talked with the children. There was no participation of children in reaching to decision. The decision to be taken in best interest of children, they need to be made the part of decision making process.

  • Sometimes parents just want to place the child because they don't want to care because of their professional demands in the office. This seems to be the unacceptable reason for placing the child in care. Many times parents want to shook off their responsibility of caring their own children, which is not a healthy practice.
When the child is disabled, then...

  • Self-awareness is the first step towards leadership. Without knowing our self, it is not practically possible to bring any change in the society. When we talk about knowing ourselves it includes strengths, weakness of ourselves.
The leader also need to be courageous bold and empathetic. The leader shows by example rathe than by lecture.

  • Working with others on change is important because to bring the change, there is a need of collaboration with different stakeholders involved for bringing that change. Change cannot be expected to come just by dealing with one particular person or group.
Recently govt of India brought a rough draft of National Education Policy. But the group of civil society...

  • Hi,
Though I am implementing many of the things taught in this week, but it has made me learn new terminologies like principle of necessity and suitability, Gatekeeping .Thank you for this learning.

  • This is definitely loving and caring family. The parents are worried because they are facing the financial crisis due to lack of rains. If the situation continued like this, there is a possibility that elder sister have to drop out from the school, because it will become difficult for her parents to continue the education. This situation may also affect the...

  • Gatekeeping is very much essential. Without Gatekeeping mechanism, there is a huge potential risk to all the vulnerable children.

  • Yes, these principles are very much important. these principles are like a guiding light while implementing the laws related to children in different countries.
Sometimes, authorities due to their own convenience, use some of the provisions of laws which are not necessary, for eg. sending the child to children home. This need o be carefully assessed before...

  • @ChrissieGale Yes. Previously I did the course on Caring for Children Moving Alone under your guidance. I learned a lot from it. Thank you.

  • Hi, I haven't understood the definition of Formal Alternative care completely.
" whether or not it has been ordered or approved by a competent authority." - Can someone please explain me what does this mean in the definition?

I am looking forward to learn more in depth about vulnerability of children.

  • I have experienced the hidden powers among the administration. Sometimes some senior officers use the lower staff and create disharmony among the employees which affect the daily routine in office and home.

  • In formal setting_
I was heading an office at district level where I had to lead the team who was working for child protection. As an office Incharge, i had power of punishing and controlling the team. Unfortunately, i didn't had any power of awarding the people(through official expenses) doing good work in a team. When some team members used to take...

  • In a formal system of administration/executive, the power comes with the task assigned to an authority. There is also a need of giving powers based on designation. Along with power there comes a responsibility which need to be handled carefully.

in non-formal system, there is no need of power. Most of the things can be get done just by being polite and kind...

  • I see a world where all the children are growing happily and living in a space free from threat and any kind of fear.

  • I believe there are different approaches and requirements to bring the change. At some places strong leadership is needed, in some places collective action is needed. Whatever be the approach, there is continuous effort needed to bring the change at local or global level. The Perseverance strengthens the movement and instills the confidence.

  • I am working on Child Rights and Child Protection. I would be very happy if i can see one community where children can grow without any fear and threat.

  • Change is the only constant thing that takes place in this world.
The change can never come immediately. There is a big history behind every small or big change that place in the life of an individual or in society.

  • It is very important to know our self before we strive to make change in the society or life of others. Until and unless, we don't know our capabilities, it will be difficult to work with others. Our own education can help us in navigating the different people whom we want to approach and area where we want to work. The understanding of our own religion,...

Hi, I am Himanshu from India. I am working in the area of Child Rights and Child Protection. I am passionate to work on strengthening children since their childhood.

  • @ChrissieGale Thanks a lot for your response. I do agree that if NGO's supoort states and all come together to strengthen the child protection network, it will be the best way to work for children.

  • I am from India. While working in the country, children from different parts of country when reach the destination (metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi) , the language issue is one of the biggest challenge. The children are many times going through trauma of being separated by the agents that they don't speak out easily due to the betrayal they had already faced...

  • I have a query- If government systems are so poor and if some organization builds a better model than the existing government system, Isn't it better that Government adopts that model.

I request the organizers of this course or other participants to please answer my query.

  • The biggest barrier to the child participation is when the adults dominate while considering the suggestions given by children as naive

  • When I came across child at the transit place, he seemed to be got entangled there. The child was unaware of the distance of his native place from the present place where he was. He didn't had any idea how he can go back. He didn't knew whom to consult for sending him back to his native place. Child feels more traumatic when someone from his own village...

  • It is really difficult to identify the children. Many times children speak lie with a thought that they will be relieved by the security forces. This deprives the child of the required care and protection services needed at that time.

  • I don't think sending the child alone was a good idea. At same time father was feeling helpless, he wanted his son to be saved so he decided to send him.

  • It is such a wonderful course. Hats off to all the professionals and children who have come forward to design this course. It means a lot to me. Thanks.

  • These children feel very much helpless when they are not able to find a way. They feel stuck in the place where they are once they are apprehended by security forces, traffickers etc. The chances of exploiting these children increase.

  • I had worked with children who due to economic aspirations left their hometown voluntarily/involuntarily and came to metro cities in the hope of having better life.
