AI-Driven Testing and Deployment for MERN Stack Applications
Prepare full stack applications for production and boost your career
Creating a working full stack application is only the beginning. To serve real users reliably, software also needs to be tested, secured, optimised, deployed, monitored, and prepared to scale.
On this course, you’ll take applications built with the MERN stack — MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js — and explore the practices that move them from development into production.
You’ll work across testing, security, performance, deployment, and ongoing maintenance while considering how AI tools can support modern development workflows.
Test and secure full stack applications
Learn to apply unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies across your application.
You’ll examine input validation, secure configuration, and common vulnerabilities, helping you identify weaknesses before software reaches users.
Streamline delivery with CI/CD and cloud deployment
Explore performance optimisation across the React front end, APIs, and MongoDB database.
You’ll then work with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to automate key stages of software delivery and move applications into cloud environments more reliably.
Keep applications reliable as they scale
Explore environment configuration, monitoring, logging, and reliability practices used to support production applications as usage grows.
You’ll also examine how AI tools can assist with coding, test generation, debugging, and code review across the full stack workflow.
By the end, you’ll be able to test, secure, deploy, monitor, and scale full stack applications while applying the practices needed to keep production software reliable and maintainable.
Syllabus
Week 1
Test and Harden a MERN Application
Production Readiness and Risk Assessment
Examine the requirements for releasing a MERN application to real users. Prepare the development tools, inspect the existing application, and prioritize production risks according to their impact and supporting evidence.
Full-Stack Testing and Coverage Analysis
Test React components, API integrations, and key browser journeys using repeatable data, coverage reports, and reliable assertions to identify gaps and measure release quality.
Security Auditing and Regression Testing
Assess application threats, audit dependencies, and check for exposed secrets. Verify input validation, injection defenses, and resource ownership through negative tests that detect weakened or missing security controls.
Week 2
Performance Optimization and Automated Delivery
Measure and Improve Performance
Establish performance baselines for front-end loading, API latency, and database queries. Use Lighthouse, load testing, and MongoDB explain plans to identify bottlenecks, apply targeted improvements, and evaluate the results.
Cloud Deployment and Release Validation
Deploy the Express API and React front end with a managed MongoDB database. Configure environment settings and API origins, verify critical workflows through live smoke tests, and practice restoring a known-good release.
Automate Delivery with a CI/CD Pipeline
Create GitHub Actions workflows that automate linting, testing, and coverage checks. Secure pipeline configuration and secrets, enforce required checks, and gate staging deployments on successful validation and approval.
Week 3
Production Operations, Scaling, and Reliability
Application Observability and Incident Investigation
Implement structured logs, correlation IDs, health checks, and monitoring. Diagnose failures by checking AI-generated hypotheses against logs, metrics, and reproducible tests to verify the root cause.
Resilient Services and Horizontal Scaling
Apply timeouts, safe retries, and graceful failure handling to improve resilience. Run multiple API instances with Docker Compose and Redis, measure scaling results, and convert resolved incidents into verified regression tests.
Recovery Verification and Release Readiness
Validate backups with a tested restore and assess risks through a code audit. Compile release evidence, define operational roles, and justify a go/no-go decision against predefined readiness criteria.

What will you achieve?
By the end of the course, you‘ll be able to...
- Evaluate an existing MERN application for production readiness by prioritizing risks and defining measurable release criteria.
- Develop component, API, and end-to-end tests using repeatable data, reliable assertions, coverage thresholds, and security regression checks.
- Improve front-end loading, API latency, and database queries using measured baselines and before-and-after comparisons.
- Demonstrate deploying a MERN application to managed hosting and automate quality checks and staging delivery with GitHub Actions, smoke tests, and rollback procedures.
- Perform observability, resilience, horizontal scaling, shared state, and verified database recovery to improve operational reliability.
- Assess AI-generated suggestions and audit findings using source inspection, reproducible tests, and operational evidence to justify release decisions.
