サブカルチャーには実は比較的長い歴史があります。1950年代のアメリカのグリーサー(greasers)、1960~70年代のイギリスのモッズやロッカー、1980~90年代のグランジ(grunge)など、挙げればきりがありません。サブカルチャーはそれぞれより大きな「親」文化の中に位置しており、特に若者の文化的な恐怖や希望をそこに見てとることができます。

このコースでは、1970年代から発展してきた日本のサブカルチャーを紹介します。

日本のサブカルチャーを様々な側面から見てみましょう

日本のサブカルチャーは、伝統的文化に比べると刹那的な若者文化であると長い間考えられてきました。しかしサブカルチャーは、若い世代が自分たちの住む世界を再創造することを牽引する破壊的な力を持っています。本コースでは、若者のもつ「未熟さ」や「脆弱さ」が日本のサブカルチャーに反映されている点に焦点を当て、それが結果的に若者が未熟で脆弱なままでいることを許容している現実を分析していきます。

このコースでは、大串教授新島教授高橋教授大和田教授の4名の専門家とともに、恋愛、戦い、テクノロジー、ファンカルチャーに焦点を当てながら、少女漫画や少年漫画、ボーカロイド初音ミク、コスプレ、そしてJpopアイドルについて探ります。それらを通して、日本のサブカルチャーを支える様々な文化的創造について学ぶことができます。文化を分析するための資料を用いて、日本の主要なサブカルチャーの基礎知識を身につけ、それぞれの特徴を学びましょう。

Shojo-manga? Shonen-manga? Japanese pop music, vocaloid and many more? You may have been interested in Japanese subcultures, but wondering where to look first. On the other hand, you may have already dived into some of them, looking for more insightful perspectives. Or, you may have just wondered why Japanese subculture fascinates your friends and families. Well, seek no further! This course will be a perfect gateway to the world of “Cool Japan” In the last two decades, Japanese subculture has gained worldwide acceptance and popularity.

Skip to 0 minutes and 56 seconds Its market is expanding, and there are various sub-categories for which many, may have been difficult to follow. I, along with three other co-educators, will introduce new vision of Japanese subculture looking into several genres along with weekly theme, such as “Love,” “Battle,” “Technology,” and “Fan culture.” Through this process, we will have fun redefining the meaning of “immaturity” and “vulnerability” in the Japanese youth culture from the 1970s. These keywords will, no doubt, shed a new light to these cultural phenomenon in Japan.
