From moons to money: 5 new free online courses announced

Five new free online courses are now live on FutureLearn and ready for you to join. They cover everything from moons to money, sustainability to dentistry. Here’s our quick guide to them all.

Study Skills for International Students

If you’ve recently started studying in the UK – or want to start next year – this course will give you the advice you need.

It covers both English language and study skills, and was designed by teachers at INTO University of East Anglia (UEA).

They asked international students about the things they found most challenging when they came to the UK, and developed the course based on their feedback.

Tackling the Global Food Crisis: Sustainable Agri-food Systems

Queen's University Belfast offers a free online course on sustainable agri-food systems

Humanity faces a considerable problem in maintaining and enhancing food supplies globally, while improving our well-being, coping with increasing populations and tackling climate change.

This new 4 week course is the second in a two part series from Queen’s University Belfast. It looks at food insecurity and the challenges to overcome, in order to maintain healthy and sustainable food supplies.

The Lead Educator is Professor Chris Elliott – author of the UK government’s recent report on the integrity and assurance of food supply networks.

Improving Your Image: Dental Photography in Practice

Ideal for dental professionals, this University of Birmingham course returns for the third time.

It’ll help you achieve consistent and excellent results in all aspects of dental photography, covering intra-oral, extra-oral and portraits.

You’ll be taken through photography – from the basics of choosing correct equipment and setting it up, to techniques for consistent imaging and the safe storage of images.

Moons

This popular course from The Open University returns for 2015.

It explores the many moons of our Solar System, looks at what makes them special and asks: should we send humans to our Moon again?

You’ll also learn about a small handful of moons that have conditions below their surfaces where primitive life might exist.

Managing My Money
