Congratulations on reaching the end of Week 2! We hope you have found the course enjoyable and informative so far.

You should now have gained an understanding of:

  • The pharmacokinetics of aminoglycosides
  • The efficacy of aminoglycosides
  • Aminoglycoside dosing and how to calculate initial dosing
  • The importance of TDM (via measurements of serum levels) and to reduce toxicity

In the upcoming final week of the course, you will look more closely at the pharmacokinetics of aminoglycosides, assessing the impact of renal impairment, extremes of age and weight, pregnancy and other clinical situations such as patients with sepsis, patients admitted to the intensive care unit or those with ascites and oedema and how this impacts dosing strategies. Finally, you will examine mechanisms of resistance to aminoglycosides and the clinical implications of such resistance.

Comment below about what you are looking forward to learning in the final week of the course.

See you in Week 3!
