In this article, we provide an overview of the key learning outcomes that have been achieved during week 3 of the course.
Feet near a finish line
You have reached the end of Week 3.

By now you should be able to apply the pharmacokinetic principles of aminoglycosides and discuss what needs to be considered when giving these medicines to people

  • with renal impairment, kidney failure, or receiving dialysis
  • who are very young or very old
  • who are overweight or underweight
  • who are pregnant or just given birth
  • who have other conditions such as critical illness, oedema or ascites, or cystic fibrosis

The key thing to remember is to treat every patient as an individual, be aware of how their individuality can affect the pharmacokinetics of aminoglycosides, and monitor blood concentrations and side effects closely.

We will now test your learning with a short quiz; when you are ready, click next to begin.
