Secondly, they might also exacerbate racism by normalising racist ideas and attitudes. Inflammatory content such as racist content tends to have high engagement and are therefore promoted, because for a lot of companies, higher engagement results in improved profits, even at the cost of its own user base. This is often not a healthy or sustainable model of operation.
