International context: what is the evidence that Asia is doing well ?

An introductory video about:

* What is TIMSS
* What can and can't they say
* What does TIMSS say about Asian education?

You may remember from step 1.5, that many countries take part in a series of assessments in maths and science for students in Grades 4 and 8, called Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS).

It is conducted every four years by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). The two most recent studies are from 2011 and 2015.

In this video, Dr. Bokhove will give a little bit more information about the TIMSS study.

He will:

  • Explain in more detail what TIMSS is.

  • Show how Asian countries compare to other countries.

  • Demonstrate how TIMSS can be used to compare the mathematics achievement of Grade 4 students.
