This paper explores the prevalence of chronic respiratory disease in developing countries and the challenges for public health in addressing the frequency and economic impact of chronic respiratory disease. The authors argue that there is a link between poverty and non-communicable respiratory disease, which can be addressed at an international and national level. This paper offers practical public health strategies to aid prevention and management of COPD and asthma.
