Welcome to Week 4

.
Welcome to the final week in this course.

Last week, we concluded our Continuous Delivery learnings by discussing environment tasks, test automation and advanced delivery. We then moved on to Release Management and started the journey towards Continuous Deployments. We addressed the key concepts of Release Management in Continuous Deployment and the creation of Release Management workflows, as well as Automated Deployments with Release Manager.

We distinguished between using Continuous Delivery and Continuous Deployment and gained an understanding of the techniques and practices of the full DevOps process.

In this week, we will explore setting up Continuous Deployment with Jenkins and VSTS, understand the concepts of containers for deployment and deploying in Docker, and discover strategies for Microsoft Azure Web Apps. We will also discover automated deployments with Octopus.

By the end of this week, you will:

  • Know how to set up continuous deployment with Jenkins and Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS)
  • Understand the concepts of using containers for deployment and deploying to Docker
  • Understand deployment strategies for Microsoft Azure Web Apps
  • Understand the basic concept of automated deployment by using Octopus
  • Know how to use Octopus Deploy in release management
  • Know how to install and configure Octopus
  • Understand the concept of using packages and various packaging applications in Octopus
  • Know how to leverage Visual Studio Team Services and Team Foundation Server Builds, and Microsoft SQL databases in concert with Octopus Deploy.
