Meet the team

Let's present the team of the course.

Welcome to the MOOC. My name is Alberto Hello, my name is Carlo We both are mathematicians of the University of Padua. Some years ago, some colleagues asked us to give some lectures in combinatorics. And one of the main problems was, to find a good textbook. Yes, because they were either too abstract, really, pure pure algebra, or just exercises. Just tricks. Yeah, exercises. And so we decided to write one together; that book. It cost us a lot of energy and time. Right, yes. Because you have to know that we are very close friends, but we disagree on almost every point, not only on math. So every page had to be rewritten several time and discussed. Yeah.

And then maybe after the 10th version, we realized that probably the first one was true. Since we developed a new method, a foolproof method, we decided to transform the initial part of the book into a Mooc. Yes, because the arguments are interesting and they don’t need immediately a big background . True So how to follow this MOOC? Well, there are several arguments, and in every argument there is an initial video that we askyou to follow. Then you will find some exercises. And we suggest you to try to solve them by yourself before watching the solutions that are both in PDF and in videos. Yeah, it’s really very, very important that you try alone to solve the problems.

And only after , try to receive some hints or some suggestions from the material of the MOOC. Yes. And at the end of every argument, you’ve got a test to check what you understood and what are your weak points on the argument. Yes And what to do now? Follow us. Sure. Let’s start and enjoy the MOOC.

Why did you say that we do not agree on many points? It’s the truth Carlo. I know but I don’t agree with that. You see?

Let’s present the team.

In the videos you’ll meet Alberto and Carlo , professors of mathematics at the University of Padova (Italy).

You can click ‘Follow’ on the profile to see the educators’ comments throughout the course. After watching the video, we’d like to you to answer a question:

What is combinatorics for?

Write your answers in the Comments section below. We hope you have a great first week with us!

Alberto, Carlo.
