Does drug use lead to crime or does crime lead to drug use?
Does drug use lead to crime or does crime lead to drug use? Generally, society is more inclined to the view that drug use leads to crime. It is the most popular view and one which is reinforced by the media. A large proportion of prison inmates are there due to crimes linked to drug use. If drug use and addiction was easy to manage and overcome, treatment for drug abuse would impact positively upon rising crime rates.
