Digital threats to media pluralism

Which threats does the digital revolution generate for media pluralism?
17.7
Well, the digital revolution clearly is increasing the spread of information and of news through these very powerful global platforms. But this creates at least two kinds of threats. An economic threat, because these platforms are absorbing one of their main resources of traditional media that is advertising that is moving online. And on the other hand, that the fact that these platforms are able to split information from the traditional platform that creates information– the newspaper, the television, and so on– makes also more difficult for traditional media to sell that information as they used to do. So both sources of income for traditional media is decreasing– advertising and subscription of media.

Therefore, digital platforms are creating a situation in which traditional media are poorer. At the same time they are creating a plurality of information that is given to people in bits and pieces that are difficult to control in their quality and in the formation.
