The Rise of a New Generation of Voices

Online, there is a burgeoning community of notably young people voicing their thoughts, opinions and research on the fashion world. These creators spawn across all available social media platforms – from the classics Instagram, Youtube and Twitter, to newer apps such as TikTok and Clubhouse. They are also more diverse than ever before – in terms of everything from age to gender to race to geographical location, to qualifications and socio-economic status. Though there are certainly a range of critiques that can and should be made of it, the digital world has really seemed to open up the doors to a new generation of voices that may have not had access to platforms before.

In this section of the course, we will be drawing attention to a select few of these incredible internet personas, from fashiontheorist to londongirlinnyc. We will be covering platforms from Instagram, Twitter, Youtube and more. You’ve already met Instagram fashion critic José Criales-Unzueta, and not only will you hear more from him, but we also have exclusive interviews coming up in the next part from:

  • Fashion and culture commentator Louis Pisano who creates content on both Instagram and Twitter, as well as writing for a range of publications
  • Fashion research Kim Daniels who utilizes Instagram and Twitter, as well as OnlyFans, to share her knowledge
  • Fashion critic Luke Meagher from hautelemode, who critiques fashion across his platforms on Youtube, Instagram and Twitter
