Watch and read: counting

Watch and/or read about the principles of counting words and phrases in Dutch. Added: a funny movie of Dutch people counting from 1 to 100.
Numbers from 1 to 20– [DUTCH SPOKEN] 1. [DUTCH SPOKEN] 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 17, 18, 19, 20. Now up to 100. The multiples of ten. [DUTCH SPOKEN] 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100. There are a few irregularities here. “drie” goes to “dertig”. “vier” , but we say “veertig”. “eight” becomes “eighty”, and “honderd” not “een honderd”. From 21 on to 99– “eenentwintig”.
21 in Dutch is 1 plus 20, or 1 and 20. “vierenvijftig”, “zevenentachtig”, “vierennegentig”, “drieëndertig”, “zesenzestig”. As you can see, from 21 on to 99 the unit is placed before the 10.
And some more information on numbers and counting– “duizend”, so not “een duizend”, but just “duizend”, “drieduizend”. Please note, the comma and the decimal are switched in Dutch. So “drie” comma “vijfhonderdzevenentachtig” is less than 4 and not over 3,000. So “zes punt zeven vijf acht” is “zesduizendzevenhonderdachtenvijftig”, so nearly 7,000. But with a comma it is “zes komma zeven vijf acht”, which is just about 7.
Here are some examples and phrases. [DUTCH SPOKEN] Mijn telefoonnummer is nul zes een twee acht vier twee nul negen. [DUTCH SPOKEN] Ik ben achtendertig jaar. [DUTCH SPOKEN] achtenveertig min drieëntwintig is vijfentwintig. [DUTCH SPOKEN] Ons huisnummer is vierendertig A. [DUTCH SPOKEN] Een jaar heeft driehonderdvijfenzestig dagen. [DUTCH SPOKEN] Twaalf keer zes is tweeënzeventig.
