This slide shows the future challenges and prospectives. For example, population ageing is a incoming challenge for the financial structure of the National Health Insurance program. The NHI administration has adopt smart card technology into the health insurance card since January 1st, 2004 The card contains records of a patient’s last six visits, including drug prescriptions, drug allergies, tennis trophic diseases, consent for organ donations and consent to palliative care. The NHI card can also be used to monitor high utilization patients and detect fraud by analyzing data uploading to the National Health Insurance Administration’s. It can also help locate those possible carrying communicable diseases and major epidemic outbreak. Cloud computer technology is being applied to give the card additionally and more powerfully functions.
The PharmCloud system is a concept of the data sharing programs. Medical records of all beneficiaries were saved in a online databases. In addition to provide comprehensive medical informations, prevent accidental duplication of prescription and prescription fraud, and the protect patients from drug drug interaction and dosage errors, the PharmaCloud system can also help saving drug expenditure. Taiwan’s National Health Insurance has safeguard the health of all citizens during its implementation of 21 years by providing equal treatment to all rich or poor, young or old, healthy or unhealthy. In the future, the NHI Medi-cloud system is expected to including records such as tests and exam, surgery items and allergy medication realizing the enhancement of patient safety and care quality. The National Health Insurance program is even launched a new program called “My Health Bank” system in 2014 Providing personalized cloud-based service for people to view their health information in real-time my health bank enable the insured to take control of their own health matters in a convenient and comprehensive way. My Health Bank provides 3 years of medical data including healthcare providers names, dates of visits, diagnoses, medical orders, allergy histories.
Visual graph and charts are accessible for better understanding of health information and personalized health management plans as well as a notification system for patients of important health reminders are available.
The NHI program has earned a good reputation among Taiwanese people and is generally considered to be one of Taiwan’s most popular public programs. People lives in Taiwan are very proud of this program. The public satisfaction rate has improved from 39% in 1995, the NHI programs first year to 61% in its second year and around 80% more recently According to a poll in 2016, public satisfaction with the NHI programs is about 83 percent. Life expectancy has increased to 83 years for females and 76 years for males and the infant mortality rate is about 4.1 per thousand (4.1 o/oo). Those numbers places Taiwan on the top of many OECD countries in terms of health care system performance.
