Pushing for perfect data and the latest set of tools is costly, time consuming and distracting. Organisations that take small steps that deliver value tend to get buy-in at a quicker pace because the organisation sees a return for its investment.

Also, focusing on what you have, not what you haven’t, allows you to concentrate your energy in the places you are most likely to succeed. So that when you do need investment to get the data or tools that are currently missing, investors already associate you with delivering value.

Fundamental to a solid foundation is good people, so concentrating on building your core team is a sensible first step. An initial lack of skills needn’t be a barrier.
