Finding a Wellness Job

Learn more about finding a wellness job.

The first step in applying for a job is to find the job you want to apply for. This in itself can be a huge task and one that requires time and effort, which is quite difficult when you have a full-time job or lead a busy life.

We’re going to help you break down the process of finding a job you love and take you one step closer to getting the job of your dreams.

Knowing What you Want

Hopefully, by now you have quite a good idea of the type of job you want in the wellness industry. It doesn’t have to be crystal clear, but an indication will help you on this next step of your journey. Here’s a simple checklist to consider when looking for a job:

  • Is the job in the wellness industry or linked to wellness? For example, it could be a job working for a major supermarket looking after their health and wellness category.
  • Is the job in a sector of the industry I’m passionate about?
  • Does the job match my personal values?
  • Does the job suit my skills and experience?
  • Are the benefits in line with my needs and wants?
  • Will the job support my career ambitions? For example, it could be a stepping stone to the job you really want.

You may want to add a few specific things to this checklist like salary, location, flexibility, company size, etc.

Carving out Time

One of the hardest parts of finding a job is creating the time to do so. It can be notoriously difficult to carve out time when you’re in an extremely demanding and busy job, or if you’re a mum with young children. But let me remind you of a few things:

  1. If you’re in a busy job, then chances are you have a lot of responsibility and tons of experience to showcase to your new employer. You can also be confident in your commitment and loyalty to your employer – something all employers want when hiring someone new.
  2. You’re not alone. The chances are your competition is in exactly the same position, so don’t fret.

Follow our top tips on creating time to find your next job in wellness:

  • Schedule time in your diary. This could be anything from 30mins every day to an hour every other day. Be consistent about when this time is, perhaps it’s first thing in the morning before your regular day begins, or when the kids are all in bed at 8 pm.
  • Be productive with your time. Create a spreadsheet to keep track of all the great jobs you come across and note down the job title, website, deadline for applying, and download the job description if you can.
  • Remember, this is job-searching time. Put your phone to the side, turn off work emails, and remove all distractions.

Where to Find Wellness Jobs

There are a plethora of ways to find job vacancies, but to find jobs in wellness can sometimes feel like finding a needle in a haystack. Below, we list some of the top ways to find jobs in the wellness industry:

  • welltodocareers.com – the home for all jobs in the wellness industry. Register a profile and start receiving job alerts today.
  • Subscribe to your favourite wellness brand’s newsletter – often brands will advertise jobs to their community first.
  • Follow your favourite wellness brands on social media – similar to the above, wellness brands like hiring from their community. It’s also a freeway for them to advertise, which makes it popular for small, bootstrapped businesses.
  • Tell your friends, family, and wider network about the type of job you want – you’ll be front of mind if they see or hear of a great job!
  • Update your LinkedIn profile – we’ve already touched on this in previous steps. Consider updating your profile to include that you’re currently searching.
  • Subscribe to industry newsletters and keep your ear to the ground when it comes to brands raising capital. Investment often means growth, and growth comes hand in hand with building a team. Make a note of brands that have recently secured investment and keep an eye on their jobs page, or better still, send out a speculative approach. In summary, the act of finding a job requires a proactive attitude. Dream jobs rarely fall into people’s laps with no work at all, so start plotting out time in your diary now, and get subscribing!
