Here's a little trick
to help add geo relevancy to your website. So as I explained on earlier on in the course, adding geo relevancy to your website is super important. You really need to convince Google your base where you say you are, and if you don’t, you’re gonna struggle to appear for local search terms in your area. So one of the easiest ways or I should say the smartest ways to add geo relevancy is to embed a GMB on your website. So, this is super, super important. So you can see for LevelFinish, I’ve embedded a GMB which is the GMB listing right here to a little map section. I’ve embedded it in the footer on my website.
So the reason why I added it in the footer on my website, is because I operate in one city and footers are sitewide, so when you add a GMB in the footer, you are telling Google your whole site is now about this one city, which for me would be Richmond. If you operate in multiple cities, I wouldn’t advise adding your GMB to the footer on your site. You wanna add it on the relevant city page. So adding your GMB in the footer is very, very simple. I’m gonna show you exactly how to do it now. What you wanna do is head over to google.com/maps. Like so, I’ll show you from scratch.
Once that loads, what you wanna do is plug in your business name, so it’ll be LevelFinish, and you wanna find your GMB listing. Once that’s loading, I’m just gonna go back to the dashboard and make sure that is how it should be. Once that loads, you wanna click the button Share. So again, just do make sure you have your right business first, don’t go and embed someone else’s GMB listing on your site, that won’t actually help you. So click Share, and then go to Embed a map. And then you have different options.
So this is just a side of the map but all the same, I typically go for the small one as I don’t want the map to be too big and stand up too much. Once you click Small, you wanna click Copy HTML. This will now copy all of the iframe code. You wanna go back to your WordPress site, you wanna hover over Appearance, and then click Widgets. And now depending on where you wanna add your map so you can see for example, from my screenshot, I’ve got my map on the right-hand side of the footer. I have three options in my footer. I’ve got one, two and three. So for me I’m gonna add it to footer three.
However, if you want yours on the left-hand side, add it to footer one. If you want in the middle, you add it to footer two. So I’m gonna go for footer three, click the Drop Down menu, I’m now gonna go and find a Text-box. I’m gonna drag this across into footer three. Once it loads, I wanna go to the Text tab. Is super important you wanna Text Tab, as you can’t paste it on the visual one. So go to Text, and then paste in all of that code. So the title, is essentially the text you want to view above the map. So I like to keep it natural. So I like to put in Where To Find Us.
And then you wanna simply click Save. Once that’s saved, you wanna go to your site just to see what it looks like. So I’ll go to Visit Site. Wait for the site to load.
And then scroll all the way to the bottom. You will see it now says, WHERE TO FIND US and I’ve embedded a GMB map here. So this is now telling Google, this whole site, is to do Richmond in Virginia, as that is the location where it’s all seen, especially like I said, a sitewide. So this is a very powerful trick which you can use to help add geo relevance to your website.
