The ‘enablers’ that help make personalised care happen

Add this..
An image describing the personalised care operating model, including the 6 components that make up personalised care and the levers and incentives used to effect change. There is a lot of writing which you may need to ask for some help to read.

The personalised care key features are a good example of how Peer Leaders can make a positive difference. That’s why coproduction has been recognised as one of four vital ‘enablers’ or ‘things that make personalised care possible.’

The role of the enablers

You can see the four enablers in the comprehensive model of personalised care (above). Enablers can be thought of as vital ingredients. Without the enablers it would be a bit like having a cake recipe (the policy) without having all the necessary ingredients (the enablers). When policy and enablers are combined, they can help make sure that personalised care delivers the changes that are wanted.

NHS England and NHS Improvement hasn’t just written about enablers. They have committed to 21 practical actions to make personalised care work well.

Let’s take a look at action 18 in ‘Universal Personalised Care’ which is about ‘Leadership, Coproduction and Change’. The goal is to:

“Train up to 500 people with lived experience to become system leaders by 2023/24.”

It’s exciting to know that this Peer Leadership Development Programme is one part of the ambitious action plan to develop more Peer Leaders.
