Management Perspectives

Technology and digitalisation can transform the food system, reducing resource use and waste; allowing increased vigilance over food quality, safety and authenticity; improving efficiency and productivity; and connecting stakeholders in new and innovative ways, from farm to fork.

Digital technology has already played a role in revolutionising other industries, however the food and agriculture sector is falling behind on the technology adoption curve. This is because the use of digital technology in the food system is highly complex and involves a number of consumer considerations.

Small to medium enterprises in the food sector may have limited resources and capabilities to adopt innovative technologies and manage the data provided.

This week we will explore these different management perspectives including the advantages and disadvantages of technology and digitalisation in the food chain.
