Technical factors are those which have an impact on how a food business operates. They include:

  • Training and Experience: Digital technologies requires new skills and work activities in comparison to traditional methods. This requires upskilling of the workforce.

  • Research: There are still a number of gaps in the scientific evidence base related to different technologies in the food system that need to be addressed.

  • Infrastructure: Digitial technology utilises different technologies, such as big data and the internet of things. The food business needs to have the proper infrastructure in place to maximise the potential benefits the technology offers, both within and between different actors across the food chain.
