Activity 1 overview

What are the tools for summarising data?
What is the importance of R in data analysis?

Welcome to the second week of this Statistical Methods course from the University of Leeds!

This week, there are three activities to complete. Activity 1 gives you the background knowledge of data and data summaries. Activity 2 then provides you with guidance of how to use RStudio to complete these summaries. Finally, in Activity 3 you then apply what you have learned this week in RStudio.

Learning outcomes

By completing the Week 2 course material, you will be better able to:

  • Implement appropriate tools for numerical and graphical summaries using RStudio and interpret the results.

Activity 1

In this activity, you start the week exploring the basics of descriptive statistics by reviewing concepts and tools for summarising data, both graphically and numerically. Such summaries belong to the toolkit for exploratory data analysis (EDA). For those of you who are familiar with (some of) those concepts and tools, this could still serve as a helpful revision.
