Activity 1 overview

How do computer simulations in RStudio, such as tossing a fair coin, help to demonstrate the stability of frequencies in long random sequences?

Welcome to the final week of this Statistical Methods course from the University of Leeds!

This week, there are two activities to complete. Activities 1 and 2 give you the background knowledge of data and data summaries that you then apply in RStudio in Activity 3.

Learning outcomes

By completing the Week 3 course material, you will be better able to:

  • Observe the stability of frequencies in computer simulations by way of experimental justification and ‘measurement’ of probability.

Activity 1

This activity starts with a video demonstration of computer simulations in RStudio of random experiments, such as tossing a fair coin. In the video, your tutor shows the conceptual link between data analysis and statistical models. Then, you will examine some examples of these concepts in practice and review the associated R commands.
