Classrooms are busy places and everyone has their own perspective of everything that happens in the class. Each person’s view of the world is different and contains both a physical and an emotional component.

In this scene the pupil arrives late to class feeling and looking flustered, and senses their teacher is annoyed with them for interrupting. The pupil keeps their head down as they think everyone is looking at them. Indeed everyone’s attention does temporarily focus on the pupil- making them feel embarrassed. They sit at the back of the class to avoid the gazes. The pupil becomes conscious that others are talking about them, making them feel isolated. A note is then passed to the pupil who becomes frustrated and distracted due to the negative attention.

Although incidents like this may be seen as simply annoying to the adult, they are not to the pupil, and it can negatively impact their self-esteem and ability to engage in the learning
