Welcome!

Jen Addicott from the University of York introduces the MOOC on Supporting you with your University Interview

Welcome to our course, Supporting you with your University Interview.

We are delighted that you have joined us! I’m Jen Addicott, an Access & Outreach Manager at University of York and I will guide you through each week of the course.

Over the next three weeks, we’ll offer you a handy insight to the world of university interviews. We’ll focus initially in Week 1 on what university interviews are all about and how to conquer those pre-interview anxieties, before looking at how to prepare effectively for a university interview and giving you some top tips in Week 2. Finally in Week 3 we’ll cover what is likely to happen after you’ve had a university interview including how to deal with any feedback.

Throughout these stages you’ll hear from academic departments who use interviews as part of their application process, and current students who have been through it all before.

It may sound like a lot of ground to cover… but by the end, we hope we’ll have helped you map out how to take on a university interview to the best of your ability!

We’d recommend that you follow our educators so you can see their comments as they appear:

We would encourage you to add your comments and thoughts as we progress through the course and to take part in as many of the activities and discussion points as possible. There are no silly questions here and you will be supported through this course by our educators as well as your peers.

You may already be familiar with the FutureLearn platform so we’ll get the ‘housekeeping matters’ out of the way in the next step. After that we’ll dive straight into the main topics for this week.

Please note that active tutor facilitation is limited to the number of teaching weeks from when the course run started. Please do not therefore expect any further tutor engagement from beyond then, although you are very welcome to continue to work through the course materials in a self-directed fashion from that point.

We hope that you enjoy the course, and again, please do take every opportunity to contribute to the discussions which will be taking place.
