In this part of the course, you will have an opportunity to develop your own advocacy plan, and receive some feedback from your peers.

Introduction

During the last four weeks of this course, you have learned about different types of patient advocacy in genomics, in theory and in practice. You’ve seen and heard from our case study experts, who we hope have challenged you to think further about your own advocacy or patient partner opportunities. It is now time to put into practice your learning on the course so far, building on your previous knowledge and lived experience.

The type of writing

We will ask you to put together an advocacy plan, which sets out how you might approach a challenge that you’re currently facing. This should not be longer than 600 words.

You will not be able to edit your work after submitting it, so we recommend that you write it offline and then paste it into the text box which will be offered in the relevant step.

Why completing this assignment will be beneficial to you and help you achieve the learning outcomes of this course

Writing your ideas down is never easy – considering and including all the aspects of your advocacy plan in a concise form, is a difficult but very important part of the overall planning for the future. This assignment will enable you to share your plan with others and we hope the feedback you receive will help you to build on it once you are back to your original setting. We hope this will become the ‘core’ of your future advocacy plan.
