Your educator for this week Jillian, welcomes you to the learning ahead.
In this week, we’ll learn about how the field of genomics is developing around the world. This section of the course looks at the ‘big data’ driving genomic discoveries and the ethical and equity considerations that are an essential component of decisions about how this data is collected, stored, used and shared.
We’ll also hear from one of the pioneers in this field about the development of genomics in the UK, as well as learning about the initiatives underway across the world to build robust and appropriate genomics collaborations that include researchers, clinicians, patients and their representatives.
Once we have discussed these foundations, we will then look into advocacy skills in more detail, in Weeks 3 and 4. In the last, Week 5 of the course, you will then have an opportunity to apply the learning in a task around your own advocacy plan.
