Challenges of systems mapping

In this step, we look at some of the challenges associated with healthcare systems mapping.
System mapping in healthcare isn’t without its challenges and sometimes they’re attributable to the inherent ambiguity or complexity of the healthcare system.

Some of these challenges include, but are not limited to:

  • Difficulty gathering all relevant stakeholders and perspectives
  • The brainstorming process – it takes time and needs a dedicated group space
  • The fuzzy boundaries of some components/elements and actors in the healthcare system
  • Reaching agreements – harmonisation and decision-making
  • A lack of funds and/or required resources
