Welcome to Week 3 of Live Smart. I’m Charlie. In this final week of the course, you’ll be turning your attention to life after you start university, looking at how to make the most of your time during your studies here and support that is available. You’ll look at some of the more practical aspects of student life, such as time management and finding that good balance between work, study, and social life. You’ll receive expert advice in developing these useful life skills and how you can put them into practise. You’ll also look at options available to you beyond your studies, for example, part-time work, volunteering, placements, and a year abroad. The list really does go on.

Taking a chance on these can really help boost your skills, grow your confidence, and get you ready for life after university. You’ll hear some of our current students discuss opportunities they are taken and how it’s helped them develop. We hope this week will help you think about how to thrive at university and how to make the most of opportunities that come with being a student.

Welcome to Week 3!

Meet your presenter for this Week, Charlie, and find out what you’ll be exploring about things to know when you start.

In this Week you’ll explore topics that are useful to know when you first arrive, such as:

  • Find out what happens when you first arrive and experience a university welcome week (also known as freshers week)
  • Hear advice on making friends and building a support network when you arrive
  • Discuss balancing study with part-time work and socialising and hear experiences from current students

Remember to watch for comments made by Lead Educator, David Dobraszczyk and the Mentors: Calum and Alannah. They are here to share their knowledge and past experiences of starting uni and happy to answer your questions.

Don’t forget to keep updating your action plan.
