I have been wondering about under what circumstances will people be buying books at railway stations today, especially with the closure of tickets offices. Passengers have often pre bought tickets online, and arrive shortly before the train is to depart. My book is already packed before I travel, and I should imagine other book readers already have their...

  • The ocean environment has so much to give. New drugs, biochemical and engineering ideas, and more novel ideas, yet to be found. Hopefully there will be a continuing and increasing worldwide effort to protect the ocean and make it sustainable for ourselves and its inhabitants.

  • I would find it difficult to live without my mobile phone and tablet. They allow me to live a 'less is more lifestyle'. Two small items used instead of many for entertainment and leisure. My concerns are about mining metals from the ocean if land ones become scarcer. I propose that built in obsolescence is not acceptable. Allowing a battery to be replaced for...

  • Like many other commentators, I made lifestyle choices to limit climate change when I became educated about issues. I thought both web pages could have gone further than they did.

I thought the coral infographic was good, but the infographic text below it could be improved by having links for further ideas such as...

    Chemicals reaching our waterways....

  • @KarolineNeilson Thank you for the information.

  • Changes to the climate alter ocean currents. The cyclical feeding patterns especially in the Antarctic could be altered and disrupted, as the phytoplankton blooms flow to less traditional areas. If some animals follow the phytoplankton blooms, the food chain could be further disrupted, and the balance of the ecosystem will have more strains put upon...

I live near Morecambe Bay, Lancaster, UK., and I was initially disappointed looking at the Ocean Data Viewer to see it has almost no seagrass. I presume it is because the bay is shallow in most parts and at low tide only rivers flow through the sands. The bay area has many salt marshes instead.

Outside my house the river is still part of an estuary, and...

  • I would need more economic data on how various tourist activities contribute to the Studland Bay area. Alongside this I would see if groups were interested in promoting and providing environmentally sustainable tourist activities.

Here in Lancaster, UK. The local university, the council, and Lancashire Enterprise Partnership are hopefully bringing Eden,...

  • From an archaeological aspect:

The Environmental Agency publishes laser mapping data LIDAR. Lost Roman routesways for instance have been located by an enthusiast, who manipulates then reads the data.

Drone footage, especially in dry weather also shows shapes of lost buildings.

Finally two local metal detectorists, have very successfully,...

  • I found the extract from section 1.10 informative. Which informs us of 4 senses being used by the driver, and presumably the stoker in order to keep the engine as safe as possible. An adjective I would add would be progressive.

  • Wind blown, cold. Vigilant. I wanted an adjective to describe, eyes that water, from wind, motes or insects, or all three, but could not think of one.

  • Wordsworth's message. Take my advice, get a bit of fresh air, see nature. It's better for you than toilsome bookish work inside.

The image I like which Wordsworth illustrates his argument: The thought of his friend eventually growing double. My initial thoughts would be that his friend would surely become hunch backed, but could double allude to...

  • As the guide mentions the castle hosts varied events. The most impressive for myself was a light show within the courtyard on the castle's, a part of Lancaster's Festival of Lights.

The guide also says 'I am confident that it can continue to be the pride of Lancaster for generations yet to come.'

I do think many people who live in the district of...

  • As a small child, pre motorway, living in a town near Gisburn we would drive to Morecambe, via Lancaster often using the Bowland Fell roads. Never using the more westerly, flatter Ribble Valley route.

Later I lived in towns on the Amounderess Plain. Where in the Georgian period, dykes (drains) were dug, draining boggy moss land. I now live in...

  • I am sitting looking out of my window contemplating the river #Lune. I live just north of the Castle. The river is tidal at this point and the height and the speed of the incoming tides depend upon the moon's phases. When the tide is to be especially high the river rises quickly.

Any observer of #tidal areas and the moon will understand the different ...

Can I recommend the book, 'Leading The Way - A History of Lancaster's Roads' if it is still available.

Local, and cross county travel was important, in #Fox's era as with previous ages.

Clitheroe, near #Pendle_Hill had a route to the north-east which used #Edisford Bridge to cross the #Ribble river.

Documented tolls from 1339, includes cloths of...
