  • Hello, everyone. My name is Augustin Ndongmo, and I'm from Cameroon. I'm excited to be joining this human rights course, and I hope to learn a lot from this experience. I'm passionate about human rights and have been following the human rights situation in Cameroon closely, particularly the ongoing crisis in the Anglophone regions of the country. I believe...

I am from the English speaking region of the country which is involve in a devastating war with the central government, for close to five years I have witnessed deplorable situations. I am presently enroll in a master in Humanitarian...

  • I am very happy to be part of this forum. I am a student of International cooperation humanitarian Action and sustainable development at the Institute of international relations Cameroon. This program is done in collaboration with the university of Padova Italy. I look forward to getting knowledge here to help me in humanitarian Action course which am about to...

  • I am very happy to join this course. I am a student researcher at the IRIC Cameroon.

  • I am very disappointed after this conversation. I have somebody who is totally ethnocentric and even egocentric, he sees every thing different as bad or not acceptable. I tried to no avail to convince him on certain issue.
I am discovering that education, reading and research is good, I have to forgive this friend because he is not informed, he doesn't know...

  • This course is very interesting, in Cameroon we suffer from diversity, unfortunately there are crises here.
In acceptance mindset the majority must try to accept the minority. They majority as us and the minority as them.
Understanding OE accepting diversity is the cause of almost all conflicts in Africa.

  • In Cameroon we have two majors francophone i.e. people who were colonised by France and Anglophones I.e people who were colonized by Britain. I am an anglophone , the way most of us see francophones is very different. Their way of life, language, education etc.Living in Yaoundé I have discovered that the denial to accept diversity or differences is very high...

  • The only diversity or difference I feel very comfortable with is sexual orientation. I grew up in Cameroon without ever heard of homosexuality, even when I saw the word in schools, I could not believe that people of same sex could have anything to do together.
I have tried to contact any male homosexual to no avail, what is confusing is that I can imagine...

  • I am very comfortable with age, gender and race, such differences for are just natural and I feel free working or living with such differences.

  • Age worries me a lot, in Cameroon and most of Africa age used to be something very different.
Today you 80yr old married to or friends with 15 yrs. I am gradually learning to be comfortable with people of all ages.
The French president Macrons case baffles many but knowing diversity makes us understand that age is just a number and has little to do with...

  • I am August in from Cameroon. I am a teacher , I teach in Cameroon secondary schools. I have work for 15 years.
Cameroon is a multicultural and diverse country with close to 300 ethic groups cohabiting. We have 2 official languages French and English and many national languages.
In Cameroon you never who is sitting next to you in a bus or taxi. We live in...

  • I am very grateful to the futurelearn and the educators who handled this course.I am equally indebted to all course mates with whom we discussed during the course.
    I happy and thankful.

  • Exactly, because women seem to be more reasonable than men these days. Women have human feelings and are ashamed. There are male dictators who run a country as if they were alone there.
They rule for themselves not for the people and this aggravates poverty, hunger, health and worst of all violence and insecurity.

  • In all the greatest challenge of SDGS is Governance. Most of the less developed world Africa in particular still have dictators who rule a whole country as if it was their kitchen or farm.
It is shocking that the modern world still allow such situations to prevail.
Political governance causes, instability and it is such governance that refuse to implement...

  • Personally, I was born in a poor peasant family with both parents illiterates.
I have decided and am doing all possible that all my 2 brothers and 4 sisters go at least to university level.
Again my own family, all my 3 children must go at least university level. Here I am tackling the education goal while at the same time tackling the ending of poverty in...

  • It is important to build eco cities so as to avoid the problems linked with growing cities.
Unfortunately, the decisions remain political.where political leadership is defective the situation is bad as in most African countries.

  • It is unfortunate, a country like Cameroon is last in all that concerns SDG 11. Sanitation is inexistent people urinate in open air, it is common placed to find pheases and excrement on road side.
Traffic congestion is permanent especially during the rush hours of the day.
    Refuse collection is largely ineffective
We still have a very very long way to go as...

  • People are either pushed by difficult life conditions in the country side or attracted by social amenities in the cities.

  • I live in Cameroon in the outskirts of the capital city Yaounde. Here our source of water is underground.we dig boreholes manually and we consume the water without any treatment.we dig here as far as 20 to 30 meters deep.
We just hope our water here is safe for we hardly fall sick with water borne diseases.

  • The two SDGS are difficult to achieve in a situation where governance, poor I of laws and decisions and instability abound.
In some subsaharan African countries like Cameroon, the populations are at the mercy of nature. There is growing and rampant urbanisation but little or no urban organization at all.
In urban areas it is common placed to find pit toilets...

  • The biggest challenge remains the ' political will' especially in Africa where leaders behave as if they were paid workers in transit.
In Cameroon for example the government recruits less 1000 health workers but close to 5000 military a year while there is no SDG calling on states to build strong military.
The budget for the presidency alone is three...

  • They are very different and that is why it is difficult to compare individual countries.
Africa as a whole and sub Saharan Africa and again colonized countries of West and Central Africa in particular, have serious sustainable development challenges as a whole.
To develop the world sustainably together, African countries must be upgraded.
    The developed...

  • In Cameroon located in the heart of equatorial forest agriculture is not the best due poor government policies.
In schools farming is used as punishment making children to see farming as kept for the bad and stubborn.
Until a young man has missed all opportunities to work in an office, he cannot go into farming.
So farming Here is for the frustrated poor....

  • Countries should increase their agricultural budget and again agriculture should be taught as a major subject in schools in West and Central Africa.

  • Unfortunately, most of Africa that poses serious problems to achieving sustainable development are those countries that were poorly decolonized, such countries of West and Central Africa are a threat to the whole system.
They remain lagging both in GDP and even achieving SDGs .
Wealthy countries alongside the UNO must put pressure on France to complete her...

  • I agree with the comments that there cannot be health and well-being without Peace.During conflicts populations displace and are destabilized, feeding habits change affecting health.
In the NW and SW regions of Cameroon more than 40000 people are displaced as refugees in Nigeria. The health situation is precarious and sustainable development cannot be achieved.

  • I will talk about transitional justice and criminal peace. Peace cannot reign when all the warring factions are not included.
Though most liberation groups are considered criminal, the must be included in the peace process.
My country Cameroon leaders are yet to understand SDG 16 which is very essential in achieving sustainable development.

  • I will include him. Most conflicts especially against repressive governments always portray the liberator as a criminal and again most liberation movements have to take some decisions or get involved in certain" criminal" activities. This is because fighting an established government is very difficult and expensive.
Most Liberation groups are popular and...

  • Structural and cultural violence is creating more challenges to sustainable development.
In Cameroon it is the Anglophone community against the francophone community accusing the majority francophones for marginalisation.
The situation is worsened by badly implemented laws and poorly functioning institutions and judicial system.

  • Very good question here, without any fear of contradiction the problem of achieving sustainable development is those countries that went through colonization.Such countries have a problem of coming back to their roots.Sustainable development cannot be achieved based on foreign or inherited cultures.
For me Europeans countries that carried out colonization...

  • For me NO, promotion of gender equality and equity is good and imperative because the female has to be given a chance to contribute in their own way.
The type of violence that is causing so much harm to sustainable development is institutional violence , the army killing innocent civilians to the benefit of seat tight dictators.
    In most parts of Africa...

  • All old fashioned leaders must be put out to enable young and modern thinkers to take the world out of this.
The big problem is in Africa. An old(87 year) president like Paul Biya of Cameroon, corrupt, wicked, killing must be forced out. All institutions are down.He rules by decree in a free world.

  • The most challenging SDG is number one Goal Ending poverty. If poverty is eradicated all other goals will be easily achieved.
Unfortunately, Africans in particular consider that they are great if others are poor. They maintain poverty amongst the masses to become the untouchables.
How can we explain the fact that with all the riches in Africa a majority of...

  • For me any region or country remains poor in the world today it is caused by the leadership of such countries.
Africa remains the poorest region especially sub Saharan countries and we see which type of leaders they have.
These governments are being fund by developed countries. This SDGS can be used as conditions for further funding.
    The media and social...

  • The fact that the goals are not legally binding makes thing very complicated.
The powerful and developed countries need to watch over the less developed.
Most African countries pay little attention to the goal.Especially the central African dictators of Cameroon, congo,Guinea Equatorial, Carbon ,Tchad etc.
Such countries need to be watched over. They are...

  • Social capital is the fear of God. It is respect and acceptance of the reality by stakeholders at all levels of the society. Here we can talk of corporate social responsibility, politics with a human face and human rights advocacy and preservation of nature.

  • In Cameroon today, Facebook, WhatsApp Twitter etc are becoming very important tools for denouncing bad governance and human rights violations. The arrogant and autocratic attitudes of administrative officers, the military and government are immediately exposed to the international community so much so that human rights agencies such transparency international,...

  • Cameroon is one of those African countries experiencing bad governance. Here we have a hypa- centralised type of government with all decisions taken at the capital. It is some sort of colonial system where the population, and the civil society is not taken into consideration in matters of development.
All decisions are by presidential decree and...

  • In Cameroon today, the English speaking regions NW and SW are in chaos, clamouring for equality.
They complain of inequality amongst Anglophones and Francophones. The francophones dominated government is yet to come to terms with the present situation.
Inequality is thus a serious problem amongst communities, it all stems from equality and equity amongst...

  • In my community there is a phenomenon which is a complete barrier to inclusion. Autism is considered in most part of the world as a disability. . Unfortunately in Cameroon humorist use autism on stage to make people laugh.
This attitude is making many children and even adults with this disability to remain excluded, many are reluctant to present themselves in...

  • Hi, I am Augustin from Cameroon a subsaharan African poor and heavily indebted country. I am carrying studies on SDGs and poverty. Cameroon is a naturally rich country but with a sorrowful colonization history which has kept the populations very poor and miserable.Bad government, corruption, tribalism etc.
I have done several future learn courses and am...

  • It sounds funny to hear but I stand for the fact that Africa especially black Africa should be re colonized. The rest of the world will achieve sustainable goals but black Africa with all the resources they have will remains. Poor, hungry, and sick.
African countries should be brought to a certain level by force. The HIPC initiative has brought no change in black...

  • The reticence of most African leaders to end poverty in their respective countries. It is difficult to attain goals in the mist of poverty. Some leaders use poverty of the masses to maintain themselves in power eternally. In a country like Cameroon where a majority of the population is poor, the leader uses state funds to remain inPower despite his incompetence...

  • No1: End poverty. This is the most important goal for me.If you have never been poor, I mean very poor you will not understand the importance of this goal.
When one is poor, he cannot feed properly, he cannot educate himself, cannot cure himself is not well.A poor man is a demoralized person, hopeless and not able to make endeavors,he is weak and...

  • I am very grateful having enroll in this course. I have learnt that sustainable development starts with me and you. How I can take action at my local and individual level as my own contribution to end poverty, save the planet and contribute to global prosperity.
I am starting right now and here reducing my paper consumption, I am watching my footprints.I will...

  • It is said that the SDGs are a global consensus or compromise but those front line or world top managers such as the US,UK, EU,China are not concerned with these goals because in none of these countries hunger, health, education etc is a problem.
It becomes difficult for these big fishes to effectively participate in the implementation of these goals. It is...

  • A global transition to a sustainable society is possible without reductions in population or industrial growth.
This is very true if the global society could be made to think and behave sustainably. We can take the example of democracy and human rights which is gradually gaining a global uniformity despite isolated cases. This is thanks to the efforts put in...

  • Population even in 200 years is not a threat in a country like Cameroon. The region is excessively rich both in natural resources as in agriculture but the country remains hungry, poor and poor education.
African problem is sustainably managing all these resources. The western world need to considered the world as one so as to implement sustainable practices...

  • Reading through this article am not surprised but my problem is elsewhere. We talk of a common future, one world one earth. This means that bad environmental practices and policies in one party of the world can be disastrous to the whole world.
The western developed world has all the means and possibilities to enable the whole world attain the sustainable...

  • The biggest challenge in sustainable development is hunger. Why are people hungry? A hungry person cannot think. It is possible to end hunger but Africa is the problem.
Most seat- tight African leaders use hunger to pin down the masses.Hungry people are poor, cannot educate themselves, cannot act.
In Cameroon, poverty is created and maintained by the...

  • I read the article on sustainability challenges and economic growth .
Most African countries like Cameroon find it difficult to attain the basic sustainable goal of hunger, poverty and education, it is very unfortunate. The challenges of sustainable goals becomes even complicated and complex when leaders proof unable to put in place policies to enhance...

  • Sustainable development brings us to creation. When God created the earth he gave strict instructions to Adam and eve on sustainable development but they disobeyed God and went on to exploit even protected species. If we move closer to God we could sustainably develop our world.
It is a matter of conscience and a sense of sharing.Living and let live.

  • sustainable development is a way of life where individuals, groups or organizations benefit from resources offered by nature without compromising future generations from equally benefiting. It is situation where policies ,processes, procedures and practices assures continuity and continual improvement in the relationship between man and nature.

  • My experience of a bad manager is one who is always running behind events.Always reactive despite advice.

  • According toHPD these actions should not be abandoned to the locals. It is unfortunate here that the authorities and humanitarian organizations are always too late when the locals with no coordination have done their best.

  • Localisation has developed in Cameroon especially on the Yaoundé -Douala road. This road is known for accidents. We record not less than 5 car accidents every week killing 5 to 20 people with 50 to100 wounded every week.
The local communities along the road have engaged in voluntary humanitarian activities when ever these accidents occur. The reaction of...

  • In Africa charity is done pride and self aggrandizement
Only very rich people make charity,

  • The government is barbaric, corrupt, too much injustice.

  • During these 16 activism days, serious human rights violation are going on in the university of Buea- Cameroon. The military is cracking down on university students. It is catastrophic and pathetic.
Looking forward for next week work. The course is inspiring.

  • 16 day activism, from 25 Nov day of violence against women and girls to Dec 10 human rights day, these are 16 day of awareness on malpractices and violation of human rights.

  • It unfortunate that poverty and bad faith lead managers to embezle rescue resources, last Oct in Cameroon, the funds and resources of Eseka train disaster was embezzled on personal interest, leaving the wounded and detressed to die alone.

  • Localisation of actions is very important, local small groups can react fast and effectively.

  • Last Oct 21 a passenger train derailed in Cameroon killing close to 300people and 750 wounded. Road accidents are a daily issue with 10 to 50 deaths and detressed.
We problems at handling such disasters.

  • In Cameroon all inspectors are corrupt as the system in place. Inspectors just collect money from employers and all all types of accidents to go on

  • Its unfortunate, in Cameroon laws are not applied .people die every day from very avoidable careless work place negligence. The lLO would have imposed these law for African governments to apply.

  • I am Augustin Ndongmo 43 in Yaoundé Cameroon, am a teacher, communicator and activist
    .

  • The western capitalist world sees right what ever thing that pleases them. They don't mind of others feelings.

  • We can own nature if "we" stands for community and not individuals. Africa has a great lesson to teach the world. Community life and ownership has thrived in Africa over the millions of years until colonisation.
The European has a very different view of nature and society.

  • The problem here is greed, one family or house hold harvest and gathers more than the needs of the family renderings other families to go hungry.if people live naturally as was the case pure African societies, there will be natural selection and distribution

  • The developed world has a lot to learn from Africa if the environment is tocbe effectively managed.
African societies lived comfortably in their natural environment enjoying community live and shared values until colonialism came with greediness and extravagance.

  • African community life was the best where the environment was protected with written laws.Capitalism, greediness ,liberation and westernisation of African has brought in serious disorders.

  • A good way especially here in Cameroon is by crowd funding ,a group of serious people can do a good business

  • Here one can invest in primary education. Many foreigners run schools here in Yaoundé

  • Here in Cameroon school is very lucrative business. You could chose to invest here in Cameroon.

  • I am in a situation where family and friends are poor, the banking sector poorly organized. Many business opportunities abound but ki ckoff is very difficult. I hope joint ventures with people from better organized countries could do.

  • The 3 Fs are good, but here in Cameroon family and friends are as poor as you are. Getting funds is very very difficult.

  • Hi, am Augustin from Cameroon I so much interested in this course, I love to start a business but funding here is practically impossible, I hope this course could help me through .Happy to meet all.
    Thanks.

  • I don't have problems with reading

  • Dear Sony,
It's been long l be tried to get in contact with you to no avail. What's wrong with your number? I wanted you come and be for some days at my place for I have decided to make the trip we were talking about.Call me using my ORANGE number 9886254 so we talk.

  • The length of the work is good but too many grammatical errors

  • Some grammatical errors,

  • Living a healthy life is very important and taking a balanced diet greatly enhance this way of life.

  • I will prefer an event I remember from childhood. If I may ask, can the name of the event be given in the mother tongue? For example ,ibin ikom

  • Yes I like Reading,I spent most of my time Reading novels,at the moment l am reading Titi Ndangaiba's Nervous conditions. This book is wonderful.

  • It very difficult to get finance from family and friends. In Cameroon Banks hardly finance activities, they ask for co. Laterals mostly landed property

  • Hi am Augustin in Cameroon, coming in to join you people just hope to catch up.
    Thanks.

  • A combination of task and social reflectivity is very important in a team. As a team leader I ensure social cohesion within the team members. This will bring about attainment of goals and objectives.

  • Today managers are supposed to have leadership qualities.in most organizations managers are called to go in for leadership courses.

  • Many people misuse authority leadership, this is because they lack the personal and social qualities of leadership. Most of the time in Africa today.Africa has got true leaders as Thomas Sankara who blends personal qualities with social and authority leadership.

  • True leaders must be able blend the different processes
    .

  • Leadership is all about making choices
Doing right things at right times and places

  • Most family planning programs in Cameroon are done in hospitals and health center where pregnant and sick women are found. Rather schools are left out, effort should be made to carry programs to young school children who are victims here.

  • Cameroon has gone a long way in family planning, married couples are fine the problem here is STDs and early pregnancies in young girls who go with elderly men for money and means.

  • In Cameroon abortion though prohibited by law is not a threat all. We assist situation whereby girls deliver babies and abandon on streets, dustbins or road junctions due to lack of means to take care of the babies,so poverty globally plays a big role in reproductive health or health as a whole.

  • In Cameroon abortion is criminal but nobody complaints people continue with safe and unsafe

  • In Cameroon unwanted pregnancy persist because of high level s of poverty. Adolescents go for money or means to survive by having sex with those who have. Ending poverty is possible but most author cities are incompetent.

  • in most African perspectives the story is very different, it cannot be compared

  • its good

  • It very unfortunate I see things this way. Vulnerable African children are really vulnerable, at time they lack water to drink not to talk of food to eat. All depends on the context we find ourselves.

  • Almost all children in Africa are vulnerable, They are having one or the other problem and must be handle as vulnerable children.
