Actually it made me think of The devil wears Prada, when the assistant goes to her boss house to take a n important book and was instructed specifically where and what to do and what not to do. Upon arriving she gets confused and end up talking with the kids (a no no) and taking their advise to go upstairs (a double no no) and get caught by the boss. And yes,...

I like the animalistic version of the Beast because our imagination really can go to very dark places to not make him just ugly and scary but terrorific and disgusting. For me insect characteristics or something like goo will make me run, puck and wanna die. But in reallity we've always been a shallow society so just one or two malformations not so good...

The course has opened my eyes to a broader understanding of narrative and that everyone has to be careful with what is written, with the possible meanings it can have. Sometimes that's a good thing in others not so much, specially now a days.

Well, the morals really make me think I misunderstud what Perrault was trying to tell us. The first, ok is about curiosity and taking it too far, but it must apply to everyone not just women. The second moral, is he regreting that all the wealth was inherited? Is it bad that a wife can redo her life after such a marriage? It needs a lot of thought,...

Normally we have a sinner who must pays in the end and at the start it was the wife but the BB became a sinner too because of his murderer habit. I think here is a balance of sins and the greater one is the one who pays the price, leaving the other as the "innocent" rewarded.

I don't think their suggesting that the story had a freudian meaning per se but that using freudian theories isnobviously a sexual meaning. Once I read a freudian interpretation of a clasical painting of a baby Jesus in his cribb with a raven and because the raven's tail was kind of touching the baby's mouth all the analysis end up being about masturbation and...

I agree with all the comments about the psychopath, the odor, the servants gossip and so on, but my brain needs to create a fairie tale reason too for his habits and so: it's a magical key, so maybe it's the source of his wealth and the more he kills the more he recieves $$$

In other fairy tales her choice would be good since she's ignoring his blue beard but here there is more than that since he has a well known past full of mistery. Also, she just saw him as a way to a comfortable life.
Then she tryed with all her resources to conceal her mistake and save herself still being in her roll as a helpless-dependable human being. -
Paty Zurita made a comment
Only Blue beard, The fairies and Ricky with the turf are new to me.
The others, well the general messages I associate with them are perseverance, smartness, kindness and truthfulness. -
Paty Zurita replied to Xarifa Cooper
Right, by telling us 'a forest', 'a castle', 'a village' they let our imagination play instead of placing us in an specifics place. That's parte of their universality.

It's interesting what you say because it must be the reason this women could became authors using their names.

The sisters punishment was the most surprising part.
I've always thought Cinderella was the most adaptable fairy-tales but now I see that the moral, the Essence, of the story can survive some changes of the plot and characters and that changing a little element can result in a new story not a bad copy. -
Paty Zurita made a comment
Maybe she did explain the Beast transformation through the sisters punishment. He was bad and the fairy punished him until he learned and found someone to love him. The sisters already have Beauty that loves them but they need to reflect, understand and learn what love is by seeing her sister everyday (because I can imagine her talking to the statues and...

I see it as the same reward/punishment sistem we discuss with RRH, one follows the right path of kindness and humility and is rewarded, the others were selfish and unkind so they get punished, and as the Readers we have to put attention and behave or else.
But then again, Beauty should have pledge for her sisters if she was all that good and forgiving OR she... -

Yes, it's not a first sight love or a relationship based on worth, but one where both parts invest time and found what they have in common, to share, give and take.

I think Gaston is a mixture of a lot of characters from the story, and gives a contrast not only to the Beast but to Beauty and the father without the controversial sisters. Let me see ir I can explain myself. In Beaumont's story Beauty is so good and beautiful as her sisters are bad and ugly, but being women and family it cause a conflict, being a man that...

At the begining she was described over the top, and the comparison with the sisters made it worst. But then their situation change and her actions and attitides speak more than the previous description and she became admirable.
-
Paty Zurita made a comment
I remember a version a little different with no brothers and the sisters also trying to take Beauty's place at the castle for all the good stuff... something like that.
There was also a tv series in 1987-90 where they live in NY, she si a normal woman and he's a lion-like human that lives in the sewers. He saves her life and then start a romance. -
Paty Zurita made a comment
There's so much emphasis on the marriage thing from the start and the characters are too extreme. it's hard to identify with the characters, they are more guides to try to reach or avoid.

I feel Perrault's version is very effective since it let YOU complete the gaps with your own fears. For me is perfect to read alone or in a small group and chat it out.

The first RRH that came to mind is the Tex Avery cartoons with the sexy woman and the oh so expressive wolf.
But thinking harder, there is a trilogy I see in My childhood about RRH and the wolf. She was a little girl and the wolf had a skunk sidekick. The first movie is more or less the tradicional story but at the end the wolf is reedimed and they became... -
Paty Zurita made a comment
In some ways, Grimm's version is more mature like the wine and the wolf's dead, but in others more inocent because it give us the advise at the begining and guide us with more description. It also have more lessons to learn from, from every caracter not just RRH.

You made me doubt and go check the story, but the wolf never ask her to take her clothes off just to get into bed. I think is part of the interpretation part that fill the gaps and how they stories change from one another.
And I agrede with You, is a list of a lot of behaviors to not do and to look for as warning. -

I have to be honest, when I read that 'she undress and get into the bed' it tick me a bit BUT then I thoght well yes, her dress is dirty from the outside and undress don't equall naked so is a normal thing (specially in the past) for a child to get in bed with a family member when sick in their underware.
Again, the story is heading to one end and is... -

The first repetitions, for me, were to show how they were decived, that the wolf really put attention and mimic RRH/grandmother expresions and intentions to get them to relax and ignore the obvious.
The last repetitions were the opposite, to ring a bell in us that things are changing and the wolf true intentions are going to happen. -
Paty Zurita made a comment
In my childhood there were some tv spots with 'inocent' actions from adults to children such as giving candies or inviting them to their homes to play, and then an alarm sounded and someone came to warn the child.
RRH wasn't warn about the dangers of the road, maybe because her mother thought it was obvious and everybody knew of them, but the reallity is... -

I was thinking the same, 'why wolves as villains?' Maybe it has to do with the time the stories were written, You know: little villages and big woods around, all families with farm animals at home and wolves getting in to eat them at winter.

I remember reading this version as a child but just thought it weird for her to undress, never related it with the moral. I was focused on her foolishness on the road.

You are right, it is a competition. I'm just saying that you shouldn't miss a good idea because it comes from a horrible person, as a leader you have to listen to everyone and do what is best. Your personal power grows as you manage your relationships and how others see you ... you have to know how to choose your battles to win in the end.

Every perception here shows the kind of relationship Greg has with each one. He's the leader of all but doesn't have the same kind of relationship and so each has a different approach to the situation and to Greg.
From the three stories we can get some facts since all tell basically the same events even though they view them from different perspectives. -
