Nice video. It Will be so hard for me to think about all the blocks. Drums and bass are going to be the mosf difficult ones un my opinion.

It seems this is getting harder and we are going to get into very technical issues. I'm quite scared and excited.
When I tras Scansion, I was like... What is that? -

I agree with my classmates. I think I Will Talk about my home village, the place where I was born. I live in a city now and I want to Talk about the inner peace, the sense if family un villages and that there is no place as the place where everything started.

Would anyone like to give me some feedback? -

I think that all the ideas you have just share with Will Come handy when following with the lyrics.
Thank you so much. It's very nice and will improve my inspiration. -

I have already written down some verses about my hometown and the feeling of nostalgia today, so I think I'm going to create my own lyrics.
Thank you so much for this wonderful info. -

I started playing the uke. It is easy if you learn the main 4 / 5 chores and It helps you a lot. I'm so happy with it. I first write the words and then I start playing chords with Uke and linking words and chords.
I think that you could do the same with a pianl, a guitar, etc
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I have already bought a small Notebook where I'm writing the ideas and adding the possible chords.
I also turn on the voice recorder on my smartphone when I Sing the songs to ser if the chords match ir not and change things until I see they match together.
The other day I asked a friend yo Tell me 4 thing related yo myself and he came Up with adventure,... -
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I do something alike. I first write the words, then add chords and then rhyme. However I usually play the same chords in the Uke, G F Am and C and I try to change the order, but all the songs sounds similar. I think I have to brush Up the part of the Melody, trying to introduce some changes between verses.
Than you so much guys for this valuable resource!

One of the songs that I feel like mine and that moves me a lot it's Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran. I was brought Up in the Countryside until I was 10, and then I moved to city and it was sad at the beginning. I used to spend Summer breaks in my village and when I listening to the song it's like I'm Travelling there.
Hard to explain. Music is something...

I hope to learn the different phonemes and phonetic symbols and how to pronounce different vowel sounds.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
After this first week, I think I still have many things to learn.
My main goals are:
- Learning how to pronounce vowels in a better way.
- Learning the main differences between American and British pronunciation, so I can teach my students depending on the test they are taking (Cambridge / Toefl...)
-Learning the phonetic symbols and transcriptions. -
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I would like to learn both rothic and non rothic.
-
I would like to improve my pronunciation skills and learn how to teach them to my students.
-
I think that English is pronounced differently depending on the area where it is spoken. It is not the same to listen to a Scottish than an American.
Furthermore, the number of English non-native speakers around the world is constantly increasing and they way the language is pronounced differs a lot.
As a Spanish speaker, I think that the main problem...

I can't find that!

I have just download the certificate and I read this:
'This learner has not verified their identity. The certificate and transcript do not imply the award of credit or the conferment of a qualification from Cambridge Assessment English.'
Do I need to verify my identity?

I created a Facebook page to share posts and resources. It is called Learning with Lois.

I think that all the tips given here are very important. I have always been teaching English Online for a company, so I had never thought about these facts before.
-
I think word of mouth is a great way. However, I think that here in Spain people often prefer fast-food lessons instead of quality lessons. Many people offer English lessons without having any studies, so they give lessons for a really cheap amount of money and I think that can be very harmful for all of us, since you can lose many clients because of the rates.

I think the SMS tool is nice to introduce a context and infere meaning.

I normally use pictures, videos, realia and colour-coded texts to set context and activate Ss schemata. I think these materials could be easily adapted to the online evironment.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
In my face-to-face lessons I usually use a whiteboard, text and exercises to teach grammar. I think I could easily adapt them to the online environment by using the interactive board and Google Docs. I think that it could be even better, since you can use colour codes to highlight different patterns and grammar aspects.
In terms of teaching vocabulary, I...

I had already upgraded before Week 2. This course is amazing, isn't?

Luis Expósito García made a comment
Now that we have reviewed the four skills, could it be possible to share a Padlet where we could share some rubrics to help us correct all the four skills online?
I think it could be useful for all of us to create a nice model to follow.
Best regards,
Luis
-
In my opinion, I think I would also use Write and improve, since I think it is the most useful when preparing students for Cambridge examination.
-
I would explore Shared documents and Interactive Whiteboard because I have already used Word changes as a translator.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
As some of my mates, I would share a file in Google Docs, so I can add feedback and corrections during the next lesson.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I think it would be easier and more comfortable doing the writing taks online than in a face-to-face lesson, since you can take advantages of all the tools the Internet can offer you.
-
I think would use Sound Foundations and Ship or Sheep.
-
As an English teacher for Spanish speakers, the most challenging is to explain them and words are pronounced differently in English, because in Spanish they are just pronounced as they are written. The phonemes and the sounds are almost the same.
I always recommend them to watch their favourite series in English with Spanish subtitles and then, when they...

I think that I would also Ana's recommendation. I think it is the most suitable for my purposes.

Luis Expósito García made a comment
I think it is also very challenging to note down all the mistakes they are making. Should we also make emphasis on fluency or just grammar and language?
Could you provide us with a Word document with your corrections to compare and to have a model to follow?
-
I used to give them delayed feedback. However, I will be using all the tools you recommended on the video from now on and I will try to give them more immediate feedback.
-
I think you could! Actually, I think you should! Nice point Stephen!
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
In my opinion, the main challenge for me would be the feedback part. How can we manage to listen to all the groups when doing the task in breakout rooms? Do you have to note down all the mistakes the have made or is it just to build confidence and improve fluency? I usually develop one-to-one lessons and I still find this a little bit challenging.
-

I think that she may have explained all the features of the platform they are using to the students in previous lessons. She might have developed a speaking class about giving opinions about that and asked students about which tools did they prefer to use during the lessons.

If I were Cristina, I would use Zoom and I would divide Ss in groups of three. I would ask them to talk about the three jobs and then I would ask them to agree on choosing one of the three jobs each one. They can´t repeat the job, so they would have to come to an agreement.
I would use the interactive board instead of Word and I would develop a...

I usually ask them questions related to a topic, show some pictures to them, so the have to describe them and give them a topic, so they have to develop a monologue around it.
I also enjoy a lot playing drama and role-playing, because I think it is a good way to develop the 4 main skills at the same time. You can ask them to read a short case, to write...

Thanks for sharing all the information and resources. Could you provide us with some examples of Cambridge examination tasks adapted to online lessons. Do you know where we could find some?
Is it legal to share a page of a Cambridge preparation book we bought with them, so they don´t need to buy it in case they cannot afford it?
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I would recommend them to watch YouTube videos about things they are interested in and watch their favourites series (for example on Netflix) in original version with English subtitles at first and then without them.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
You can play a song and ask them to add some more lines to the lyrics taking into account rhythm and entonation.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I don´t now if it's possible, but if you are preparing students for Cambridge examinations, you could share the audio of your laptop with them and share your screen with the questions. They could use the whiteboard to write the answers, each student with a different colour.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I agree with my classmates. I think technical issues could be the main problem to sort out. Internet connection, headphones and sound quality are just a few of the issues that we might deal with.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I find your resources very handful and interesting. Thanks for sharing!
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I used to create a quiz on Moodle with one question related to each paragraph of a longer text, so I pasted one paragraph or two in each question depending on the length. It was very confortable, since the platform automatically correct them and give them feedback.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
Could it be profitable to tell them to read a long text at home and then do the activities in class with their classmates? I´m thinking of PET, FIRST and CAE examinations. Some use of English could also be introduced here, couldn´t be?
-
I think this is very interesting! In case of preparing someone for Cambridge examinations such as PET or FIRST, would you recomend do the reading part at class during the first lessons or for homework?
-
I also think that speaking could be the most difficult one if you work with an online platform such as Moodle. I have been working for more than 4 years teaching English online to adults on Moodle and they have full access to the platform. You can upload audios with questions, propose them to write articles about different topics in forums and upload articles...

I think it offers more tools and resources than Skype.

I think all the content we have seen is very interesting. Thanks for sharing it and helping us become better teachers!
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
Is there any platform focused on everyday conversations where students just want to improve their speaking fluency?
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I think the biggest challenge when starting to teach online is planning. I think that you not only have to bear in mind all the things you want to teach in each session, but also taking into account all the technical issues which may arise during the lessons.
Being friendly and open can help a lot in order to build and create a good rapport.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I think one of the most important things is to break the ice and find out what are our students objectives, motivations and interests, so we can adapt our online lessons and get them into them more eficciently.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I think that you have to create a good and comfortable atmosphere, so they enjoy talking and interchanging their experiences. Being friendly and open can help a lot. I think the barrier student-teacher should be broken.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
For a group online session, I think that the best would be using breakrooms to divide them in groups of 4. Then, we could take notes of the mistakes and listen to their role-playing interventions.
When all the groups have finished, we could come together with all of them and talk about the common mistakes the have made and give them some feedback.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I think that the most interactive of the tools above mentioned is Realtimeboard. I think that the templates it offers can be used in a huge range of activities such as Brainstormings of different topics, mind maps of the grammar, tables with vocabulary, etc.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I think that Zoom is the best one. However, we would have to pay in order to use it, since the free version only allows one person per meeting and just 40 minutes of session. I think the the free version could be a perfect option for one-to-one lessons combining it with Skype.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I didn´t know about many of the tools used in the video, so I think I should use them in order to share my opinion.
However, I think that the main problems we may find could be the following:
-Poor sound quality.
-Slow Internet connection speed.
-Difficulties when filling the gaps with large groups of students.
-Interruptions when doing speaking... -
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I would like to try all the tools and then I would find out which ones are the best formy lessons.

I would like to work as an online English teacher since my dream is to live in a motor home and discover new places travelling all around the world.

Luis Expósito García made a comment
I would like to teach both younger learners and adults since I think that you can learn a lot of things from them.
With young learners you can develop lessons full of games and with adults you can be a little bit more serious and create different discussions about controversial topics such as abortion, racism, etc.
-
Luis Expósito García made a comment
I hope not only to learn different strategies and activities to brush up my online teaching skills, but also to better understand how to teach the different abilities (writing, listening, speaking and reading) within an online environment.
