  • Thanks for the feedback.

  • Glad you enjoyed it!

  • Great. Thank you - glad you found it useful. Look forward to learning with you next week.

  • Thanks - great ideas.

  • I'm unsure but I'll do my best to find out!

  • There's a section of the course all about how Lloyd's started.

  • Welcome! One of life's odd serendipities is I'm (away from work) reading a book set in Naples.

We look forward to learning from you too. Whilst learners we hope will learn, we always learn a lot from you - especially those of you who are legally qualified or working in shipping.

  • Great to have a Scottish lawyer sign up and romantics more than welcomed!

  • Wonderful - welcome aboard!

  • I thought people might ask about that...

  • A great point and one that hasn't been raised in any of the course runs, from memory.

  • You've come to the right place.

  • Great stuff - hopefully we help you and you help us!

  • Thanks for signing on. Welcome!

  • Great. Welcome aboard and we look forward to learning with.

  • Thanks, Frances - we go through the next steps this week. Hopefully they help!

  • I really don't know, to be honest but clearly the IMO regulations are of the utmost importance.

  • Great point - and a real threat

  • The effects of Brexit are on everyone’s mind. There was a good article recently on the BBC about shipping and the environment. I’ll see if I can find it.

  • Now is your chance! Welcome.

  • Wow! Looking forward to hearing industry insight. Thank you for signing up.

  • Great! We’ll learn lots from each other

  • Super! You’ve come to the right place. Just ask if you have questions

  • Yes, amazing footage!

  • Welcome! We hope you enjoy it.

  • We'll try and build some case studies in.

  • Great feedback. Thanks for offering it.

  • Hi, Tom,

Thanks for the comments. We'll try to jazz future MOOCs up.

    Thanks

  • I'll speak to the guys at Strathclyde about extending Ardcalloch!

  • @NeilAmner great to have a Scottish solicitor involved. We hope you enjoy it!

  • Best of luck with the bar exam

  • Thnaks for sharing

  • If it is relevant to your practice then I'd suggest that around 3 hours per week would be fine - so 12 hours maximum?

  • @ChristopherFung great suggestions. Many thanks. Great to have a Scottish solicitor doing the course.

  • With the subtitles: we used the futurelearn service for that. If there are errors there I'm really unsure how to go about fixing them.

In terms of the transcripts, I'll hunt them out

    Great feedback. Many thanks.

  • @ChristopherFung it really should do, yes.

  • This is lovely feedback to read, thank you all

  • Justo so!

  • Thank you, @IanJenkinson

  • Thanks, Leo!

  • I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing!

  • I'm afraid, I'm unsure. I hope Ed will jump in when he gets a chance.

  • They would!

  • Absolutely. We suggest it as further reading.

  • @SueHinds tHANK YOU!

  • Probably has done more for global prosperity than just about any other person - well, maybe Sir Tim Berners-Lee?

  • @AnthonyWashington Quite so. The City of London is distinct in many ways but it is not a separate state.

  • Just so!

  • This is interesting. This is our second course run and last time I didn't think anyone mentioned cabotage - although the learner profile was similar. Interesting isn't it? Anyway, thanks for raising!

  • Great to hear!

  • One of the many great unknowns of Brexit!

  • Will double check!

  • Great to have a fellow Merseysider learning!

  • Anthony explains it perfectly. Isle of Man isn't part of the UK (neither are Channel Islands)

  • Spot on!

  • That's the plan!

  • I'm not sure why it would need to be US?

  • It is later on, I think!

  • I hadn't realised there was such an issue of piracy in the Bight of Benin. Thanks for sharing.

  • Really interesting thoughts. Thanks for sharing.

  • Interesting thoughts. Many thanks.

  • Welcome! I'm sure we can learn from one another.

  • Agreed. Great points.

  • Welcome aboard. It is great to see so many learners from around the world joining us.

  • Great. We hope this course helps your learning.

  • Vanessa,

Great to have you aboard. We hope this is a useful course for lawyers globally.

    R

  • Great to have a learner from Fiji!

  • Great list. What do you think makes a reputable flag?

  • Yes, great point @RoderickMackinnon

  • @AnthonyWashington I think eye watering is probably a good enough description. But think about how much a ship could make a company?

  • Great thoughts. Thanks for commenting. What are you looking to get from the course?

  • A classic series! Please dive in with comments and questions.

  • Great. We look forward to working with you.

  • @TristramTweedie Have seen some really interesting analysis on the supply chain issues coming out of Brexit. When you talk about our fleet do you mean registered here?

  • Absolutely - good insights, thanks for sharing.

What tech do you think will affect shipping?

And what can the industry do to attract (and retain) talent?

  • We have steps on Panama later on... perhaps unsurprisingly.

I suspect that technology - particularly how shipping utilises blockchain - will be crucial going forward.

  • @ThomasJohnston we'll go in to some depth on ownership over the weeks. I look forward to learning with you.

  • Great!

  • Bernard,

Hopefully the course will give you everything you want. We look forward to learning with you.

  • What would you like to know?

  • @Dr.RazonChandraSaha I hope you do learn some things that supplement your knowledge from UoG.

I'm sure we'll all learn a lot from you too. Please do keep commenting and asking questions.

  • Great thought, thanks for commenting.

  • Good idea - thanks!

  • I think it might be best to drop Ed an email...

  • Our pleasure. Many thanks.

  • Yes, it is challenging at points. I'm glad you found it interesting. Thanks for your contributions throughout.

  • Great - look out for future courses from us!

  • Very kind. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Interesting thought. We'll look into this for futuure runs

  • Ha! Well spotted!

  • Great - thanks!

  • Quite so. I find arbitration fascinating. Would be interested to learn more - perhaps a MOOC?

  • Fantastic depth. Many thanks for taking the time to share with us.

  • One of the related media in the first step of the first week was a timelapse of a container ship going around the world. AMAZING.

  • I suppose so... but the coffee seemed to intensify the trade!

  • Hope you caught up!

  • Great!

  • Great to hear!

  • Thanks, Ben
