I visit my local cinemas as frequently as I can. I’m a member of a film society that screen various genres not generally new releases. During lockdown I invested in a projector, screen and popcorn machine! to emulate my much missed cinema going entertainment.
I’m now able to gravitate back to the cinemas and enjoying the magic again.

I first practiced mindfulness over 50 years ago, however, it was part of Yoga meditation as I believe the term ‘mindfulness’ was not used back then.
I may be wrong and confusing mindfulness with meditation! I suppose by joining this course I’m about to find out as I will gain a deeper, broader knowledge of the...

  • In My professional life I worked in health and nutrition.
I trained many years ago and have not had an understanding of the psychological and physical relationship between gut and brain. I am excited to learn about this topic.

  • Hello Bruce,
One of the joys of becoming wiser and accepting. I have exchanged worship of the ‘money God’ to following Buddhist and yoga practices. I find in being kinder to myself I am so much gentler to others.

  • As the years fly by I must say I am only kind and gentle to myself. I’m thoughtful and playful love each day and those I meet. If I suffer it is an ephemeral experience, I don’t compound my problems by stressing. I’m sure when I was younger I would but not now.

  • I am going to listen and no longer fill silences with mindless sentiments in an effort to placate. As a child I learned to placate my parents by manipulating what I wanted to say to what they wanted to hear. • Major personal difficulties for me was nursing my husband who suffered from addiction to alcohol. Society judged him wrongly, life was a constant disaster area as the impact of alcoholism shaped all aspects of our lives. He died at the age of 42.

  • We are meant to thrive not just to survive, we cannot grow in defence mode. The word resilience comes from ‘to jump again’. I just love it.
Resilience allows us to to learn and grow by experiencing life’s undulations. Being compassionate to others and having self compassion. Living your life well.

  • I had struggled for many years in a painful relationship were the love had changed shape. I’m 67.
Fear of the unknown and financial insecurity had overridden any gut feelings I had steering me to make a leap towards a more fulfilling life.

I didn’t jump, I was pushed, but wow how I wish I’d listened to that inner self. Having the choice of being a victim...

  • I believe that very few of us eat as a response to hunger. We eat for a myriad of reasons.

  • Hi reading this on my iPad I have been able to slow the presentation of the video to 0.5 speed. I hope this is helpful.

  • I trained as a dietitian many years ago and have a knowledge of the subject discussed, however, I found it very difficult to follow this video. The content is excellent but requires a slower delivery to enable assimilation of complicated nutritional and neurological mechanisms.

  • I studied food science and dietetics. The psychology of food and nutrition is a fascinating topic. It’s many years since I studied at university I am interested to understand more about nutrition.

  • I go to the cinema at least twice a week, sometimes during the day but mainly in the evening. It is an activity I can enjoy on my own or with friends and family.

  • I feel from my limited knowledge of the period that women lacked autonomy.
Unless they were blessed with caring parents and partners and had their own private fiscal resources their lives were controlled by the traditional expectations and mores of the class structure they were born into.
My knowledge is based on the literature I have read, most of which...

  • I loved the kaleidoscope effect of the Jasper Holsten’s production. Immediately I was transported into the operatic drama of this playboy scene. The first setting was superb in its own way but simplistic leaving little to the imagination of the audience.

  • I enjoyed the the intimacy of the first production however it was the second version that captured the essence of the drama for me.

  • Opera?
The collaboration of musical and dramatic creativity. The actions and dramatic gestures being secondary to the human voice that conveys the meaning and is essential to the storytelling. It differs from other musical theatre in that it can be humorous, poetic and deeply moving appealing to the deepest emotions of the onlooker. Other forms of musical...

  • I have cared for my mother for 7 years and now give respite care looking after a friend with early onset dementia.

I assist her husband my giving respite care. To do this effectively I need to be able to enjoy my time whist enriching my friends days. I have so much to learn and understand.

Respecting all life and being kind and gentle to oneself and others. To follow a life where quality not quantity is our goal. • I do not think that the human populations will increase their longevity in our modern societies.
I believe that degenerative diseases take hold in middle life and are insidious the harmful effects are not reversed in the later life. The sedentary, overstimulated, overindulgent habits take their toll and a combination of genetic, environmental and...

  • Societies are becoming morally and spiritually impoverished as wealth increases. To correlate avarice and an inordinate desire for wealth, power and material gain with personal or societal happiness is an anathema.

Harry was listened to. His needs were addressed to his satisfaction. He was respected, he had autonomy and self worth restored. Lovely

  • The older residents may resent interference from well meaning partners feeling a lose of autonomy. This must be respectfully addressed at all stages to empower where possible.

  • In aged-care situations frequently the ratio of staff to residents is not sufficient to enable the carers, who have the greatest contact with the older person, to respectfully listen, communicate and exchange the information with the necessary partners to achieve the desired results. I have witnessed in some situations a resident being totally ignored or being...

  • In my experience the formalities of a partnership-centred approach has been for initiated in the care of my aged mother, interviews with appropriate partners, reports and careplans are written but they are not implemented. It would appear that their legal obligations have been fulfilled but no responsibility it taken for the initiatives to be put in place. My...

  • Harry is experiencing total lack of autonomy over his future. He is dependent on others i.e family members to initiate contact to express his paternal loving relationship. He will be frustrated by his limiting physical disabilities which impacts on his day to day quality of life. This frustration can lead to inertia and eventually depression.

I sign up for many, dip in to half and complete those that hold my interest. You have created an...

  • The anonymity of the multiples faces and petals are lost in the crowd and on the bough.

  • I prefer surface reading and historical contexualisation

  • Hyper reading is useful . It augments other forms of reading, it allows us to access mega amounts of information, to sift through and disregard or assimilate as appropriate.

  • Paper book for relaxed reading. I enjoy the physical touch of the book. Reading for pleasure is more than just absorbing the text. For me I can recall where I was and my emotional response to the specific book. I didn't read a book until I was 16 years of age. I have made up for that over the years but the physical act of reading is so multifaceted. I know...

  • Well how depressing was that video!! No energy to waste on worries. I take absolute responsibility for my health and happiness in so doing I know when I have a problem how to fix it. We are all ageing and going to die but whilst I still have my faculties I intend to enjoy every minute.

  • Having total autonomy on all aspects of life is imperative for my quality of life. Being loved and loving friends and family. Joy of everyday, the sun rise, the birds song, books art culture.

  • Having lived through devastating domestic events in earlier decades has developed an empathetic and generous facet to my being. Having autonomy and the wherewithal to plan my daily life is paramount to my evolving joy of life. I love all those people I include in my life. As I have just celebrated my 65th birthday and I take responsibility for my life filling...

  • Well, that's reassuring at 65 I have never thought about limitations that age might bring. I will continue to live to my full potential as I pack my bags for a 3 week backpacking trek around South America . I look forward to catching up with this course on my return. Many thanks to course organisers for the uplifting content of the course.

  • The adverts are irrelevant, not real, as with all adverts the are contrived to convey a message. As with all stages in life we are judged by our physical appearance, how we dress, how beautiful we are.

  • No. I am 65 and live each day as if I am going to live forever. I may be unaware of ageism directed towards me but my age is never an issue. I care for an aged mother who has recently become a resident in a care home. The love and respect the residents receive is outstanding generally.

  • For me it is so important to feel passionate about something. I am involved in Bee keeping, silversmithing, glass and textile designing. Playing in a band, lots of friends, caring and nurturing family, walking and reading are my passions.

  • This poem encapsulates the beauty in the simplicity of just being in tune with our world. I walk in the wolds for a couple of hours every day, it feeds my soul.

  • In Jonathan's reading the message was expressed clearly. I preferred this to other readings.

  • Thank you.
